Michelin Star Count: Today 0; Trip 8 So today we left our humble abode in Bray and travelled to the Cotswolds for a quiet day of walking around. The Cotswolds are a bunch of little country towns with some of the coolest names. Stow on the Wold, Upper Slaughter, Bourton on the Water are the three we spent some time in today. Sweet little villages, leaning a bit to the touristy side but still worth the drive. Wonderful sites on the way. We had a reservation at a pub just outside of Stow that was supposed to do the best Sunday roast in the area. Sunday roast is a big thing here. Beef. Potatoes. Yorkshires. The whole 9 yards. Now the important word in that last sentence was had. Midday Saturday I got an email from ... read more

Well after a quick work out, it was back home to stock up, empty out and for me to take an HGV assessment to see how many lessons I’d need before taking my HGV test. It was an eventful day, we parked up in our good friends Pub Car Park, The Palmer Arms in Dorney but right away noticed something was not quite right. The dash board was going bonkers and the engine was hunting. Everything had been perfect, now this? There was no time to dwell on it as time was getting on. I picked the car up from home and went off to Lorry Land while Lydia walked the dawgs. We reconvened later in the day and after a quick matching of opinions with a mate and confirmation by a kindly AA man, we ... read more

Well we did say it’d go quiet for a while, well it did for sure. The search for the right RV has been more difficult than we ever imagined it would be. But... finally we hit gold. An obscure sequence of events and conversations lead us to a vehicle that we unanimously and almost immediately said, Yes!! This is the one for us. We are in no rush so we left it with a workshop, cue’d the music (as they say on Top Gear) and left to start buying toys to help us on our travels. I’ll leave it there for now and do a more detailed post when we finally take delivery. That should be very soon so please do watch this space...... read more

So we got back to the UK, safe and sound. It was a great trip back and so nice to have booked all the Hotels en-route. Ibis all the way, cheap, clean, good food, and secure parking. Good job too with our life, or at least part of it packed into the back of the Pick Up. So Christmas has come and gone, a lovely Christmas at that, spent with my beautiful daughter Emily and her lucky boyfriend Alex, in thier new home. Brilliant!! Thinking of our Melampo Friends, it appears they all had a good Christmas too... As for our new home, Motorhome that is, well we've decided that our vehicle of choice will be an American RV, not a massive half mile long thing, but just something that big enough to be comfortable for ... read more

The English summer is true to form. There’ll be some rain, cloud and sunshine today. At the moment there is light drizzle. After we get our chores done we prepare for our trip to Windsor. We have not visited Windsor before but have seen the castle tower from afar. We will call today’s trip an exploratory trip, we won’t be visiting the castle. We offer to drive our hosts on this outing. We leave Jane behind and use local knowledge to get through the highways and by-ways without going on the dreaded M25. We are equipped with jackets, raincoats, umbrellas, sun hats, and cameras. It is a picturesque approach to the town. Tree lined streets, nice houses, and the River Thames meandering by. We follow a sign to a convenient carpark close to the centre of ... read more

The last few days have brought glorious weather to England, for which we are eternally grateful - days so far have been 17-19 degrees and sunny. But before that - a word on Frankfurt airport -its HUGE. We had to change planes there with a 1 hr 40 min switch-over between landing at one gate and taking off for London at another. Fine, right? WRONG! We ended up late getting off one plane, partially due to some disobedient passenger standing up when she should have been in her seat, leading to the us taxi-ing down the runway with pissed off cabin crew shouting into the intercom "SIT DOWN NOW!!!" ...so by the time we disembarked we had about 30 minutes before boarding the next flight....which just happened to be so far from the gate we landed ... read more

We slept in a little longer today, since we only had one item on the itinerary and that was a day trip to Windsor to tour the castle. We walked from our hotel to Waterloo Station. It was about a 20-minute walk across the Waterloo Bridge over the Thames. The train we would be taking is basically the commuter system for greater London, similar to LIRR or Metro North, just more comfortable and less crowded, well except for the two stops full of children on their way to a zoo or something. It was pretty easy to figure out which train and buy our tickets, it helps when it is all in English unlike when we are on the Continent. The trip was about 50 minutes passing through the outer part of London, suburbs then countryside. ... read more

Geo: 51.455, -0.969088Breakfast at the Black Horse Inn was interesting, no option for cereal but the bacon sandwich (not toasted, on white bread) was popular! We decided to go to the much acclaimed Warwick Castle which opened at 10 today instead of the usual 9am. While we were waiting, we found out that 'thousands' of cubs and scouts were going to be there today. Given the noise that the first 20 were making, we decided to head to the hallowed city of Oxford.Despite setting the Satnav to 'country lane' mode, we were soon hurtling down the M? at 70mph so we diverted to Banbury, of 'ride a cock horse to Banbury Cross' fame. We did see cock horses, the cross and the fine lady. Another pretty town, with a canal though the middle so we watched ... read more

Thursday and our last full day in London and its going to be another perfect warm late summers day. Today we have a plan to visit Windsor Castle and get it ticked off the bucket list. Our previous trips to London have seen us staying either out the east side or south of London Bridge and too far away to make Windsor a day trip without leaving really early in the morning. From Brentford though we are just a stone’s throw away, so to speak. Actually it became a bit of a logistical nightmare to select a transport route to get to Windsor mainly because there was a slightly closer over ground railway station called Kew Bridge which Google wanted us to use yet there were infrequent services from there to take us to the line ... read more

Geo: 50.9065, -1.16286Our stay in the southern Loire at Camping Le Cormier at Obterre was very relaxing and enjoyable, particularly as we were blessed with lots of warmth and sunshine in a tranquil and friendly setting. Whilst we got out and about there was also a great deal of chilling out. As Le Tour drew to its conclusion, David was watching the ITV4 daily stages on a large screen which Mike had set up in the barn. On our last day he was out on his bike for a final French ride along the quiet lanes of the southern Loire before settling down to watch the final Paris stage during the afternoon. So we left Camping Le Cormier at Obterre after extending our original one week stay to eleven nights for our final transfer in France before ... read more
