Anne

My name is Anne, 27 years old. Travelling is hobby, but other less expensive hobbies are running, fitness, reading, and having a good diner with good beer or wine. Since as a little kid, I was expressed by the beauty of Africa. I always wanted to visit the savanna by myself on a big adventure. 20 Years later, this dream came true through my first trip to Africa: South-Africa, Lesotho and Swaziland. Since than, my love for Africa is bigger as ever. Not only Africa, the world does have great secrets left for me to discover. My first trip was to England to the romantic medieval south-west. Followed by the Arabic dream in Jordan, my African dream and shortly I discovered a land full of Jungle, volcano's and temples in Indonesia. My next trip would be to... surprise: Africa (Ethiopia). And, or course the rest of the world is waiting. My biggest dream? To finish and succeed the Big 5 marathon in South-Africa, combining all my hobbies: sports, travelling, the love of Africa and in the evening the "Afrikaans Braai", and a good red wine!

Today, I traveled further to Bahir Dar and therefore directly visit the Blue Nile Waterfalls in Bahir Dar. Simply named it, there are three top things to do in Bahir dar: The Blue Nile Waterfalls inclusive walking the trails, Lake Tana and the city of Bahir Dar itself (especially the markets). Therefore, Bahir Dar should be on every traveler list traveling north to Ethiopia. It is possible to drive in one day to Addis Ababa, but you can take your time and travel in a minimum of two days up to Bahir Dar. The distance is 320 km to Addis Ababa. At the start of the third day, it was time to leave our hotel from Debre Markus quite early at 7.30 am. Before leaving, a traditional Breakfast was served with injera, hot sauces and vegetables. ... read more

After one day in Addis Ababa it was time to leave the Capital and to travel north. I will keep travelling North, taking a West Route via Lake Tana and Gondor / Simien Mountains, until I reach Lalibella. From here, I will travel back to the Addis Ababa again, this time taking a east route via Kombolcha. What can you expect in the North? The nature is beautiful with meadows, the Highlands, the deep canyons and the mountains. Today I visit different viewpoints to see the great nature for the first time of my Trip to North Ethiopia. The Simien Mountains contains endangered animals with only populations left in the Siemein Mountains The top three animals to see at the Siemien Mountains are the Gelada Baboons, Walia Ibex, and the Ethiopian Wolf (which actually looks more ... read more

Africa October 16th 2016

Early in the morning, it was time to leave home to go to Amsterdam. From here, I would travel to Ethiopia, and the Capital of Addis Ababa with a stop-over in Istanbul. Both travel days to reach and to leave Ethiopia, will not been included to my travel report and blog. The main reason I decided to do this, is that I want to split up my travels in Ethiopia in two parts. Also, I do not feel a travel day by arriving and leaving a country is substantial important subject to write in my travel report. Also, I decided to split up my travel review and travel blog in two parts about Ethiopia. This, due the huge difference in-between the North and the South. Addis Ababa is just on the “border” in between these areas ... read more

Yesterday evening, I had a chat with an Australian backpacker. He was already in Ubud and wanted to go with a friend to Kuta. His friend, should come out of Australia, but all flights to Bali from Australia and returns were cancelled. This was due the activity of a Volcano at Bali. The Volcano released Volcanic smoke which is dangerous during the air flights. Therefore, all flights were cancelled to and from Australia. When the wind changes and the smoke will to the direction of North Asia and Europe, it means that our flight would be cancelled as well. Which means that we could not leave Bali. ... read more

Yogyakarta is probably the best visit highlight of Java. And it is not difficult to find out why. Close to this city, you find two great temple complexes, known as the Borobudur and Prambanan. They do attract a lot of people, but you might find some spots for yourself by these temples? How? Almost all guides have the same route on these temples which they explain to the tourists. Having a guide is defiantly a pro, but try to catch some free time for you as well, and then go to the points which you did not saw by the guide. For example, on the other side of the Borobudur. There, you can walk in these corridors without seeing a tourist. Ok, you have to be a little bit lucky. I spend two days in Yogyakarta, ... read more

Shortly after the bus arrived in Pangandaran I felt myself quite horrible. I became very sick, and I felt myself horrible, especially in the late evening, night and morning of the 12thday. Pangandaran is a great place to learn surfing, but I was so sick, I could not attend this excursion, so in the end of the trip, I did not manage to surf. It also became even more horrible due a fight with a roommate, leaving me no other change to end the relation as friends and find another room for myself. In Pangandaran we arrived in our hotel Pantai Uni, were I had room 2014. The hotel had a great sight on the beach, so it was not more than 200 meter to the beach.
