1st leglee and vickySo its drawing close so i thought i'd better start writing our bloggs just to let everyone know whats going on and what our plans are so far and i guess say hello to all those people out there who dont actually know us. So we leave this life of 6 day working weeks and parking fines, rent days, fast food blah blah blah........ in a little under two weeks. Our first destination is Ecuador and the first city is Quito, we have our airport transfer aranged and the hostel booked (the secret garden). We figured that it was best to pre arrange these details at least until we'd had our spanish course which starts the weekend after we arrive. The course consists of 20hrs classroom spanish and afternoon excursions over the course ... read more

In the meantime i'm enjoying the start of spring, and spending my free saturdays in the city of Reading. Life on an alpaca farm is great by the way, no 6 o'clock wake up calls and a golf cart to drive around in. Very intelligent animals, they know exactly where and ... read more

Hello. Welcome to my travel blog which I will be updating over the next 7 months or so whilst I am away. Rather than send out group email, I'm gonna keep a diary of what I get up to here, which you can subscribe to, or just have a butchers at when you're bored. As this is the introduction, I thought it'd be a good idea to give a brief description of my itinerary for the coming months. For those that don't know, I'm flying out from Heathrow on Saturday 24th February (Less than a month's time now!) to Tokyo, Japan with my good friend and degree course buddy, Danny B. After 3 days in Tokyo we then fly on to Cairns, Australia, where we will meet up with another of my best Uni mates, Will, ... read more

Hey guys, This is my first post on here. So I arrived in England last Sunday! The plane ride was interesting. Sonia & I left Logan Airport around 9pm on Saturday night. We arrived in England around 8:30am Sunday morning. The plane wasn't actually that bad. I felt a little uncomfortable due to the fact that I was between two people I don't know at all. I was in the center aisle, center seat. So, no window for me, haha. Anyway, the plane food wasn't that bad, and the attendents were very attentative. A+ to British Airways. So we came into Heathrow, and had to find our way over to the trains to travel over to the bus station, and that was an interesting one lugging our huge suitcases!! Both us of had 2 extremely filled ... read more

Hello all. First of all, apologies for leaving you all in a state of suspense over what happened after the Galápagos. After receiving one concerned message (what about the rest of you?) as to my plight: To reassure you, Jeff, that my blog does have a happy ending: i) I was not eaten by a shark (the white-tipped sharks we did see swam past too quickly to eat me and are anyway apparently vegetarian, or was that the caimans, I don't know...) Either way, I am in one piece. ii) I did meet some tribal type people in the Amazon but did not indulge in any pot. iii) (Alas?) despite some pretty special salsa moves and a night of dancing through to dawn, I am not even close to being married to a local bar girl ... read more

A Flight Lacking In Something... The flight from Addis to Sana'a in Yemen was quite short, so I didn't expect much. Then there was the wait at the airport duty free wasn't much to write home about (I later found out that the antique electronics they had for sale didn't actually work) and their version of a lounge was a couple of plastic chairs around a plastic table. There wasn't much in the way of air con either, ad it was around 40 degrees (the airport was in a desert!). Then on to the flight. I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't sit near James so I wasn't looking forward to being sat next to some one who I probably wouldn't be able to talk too. I was informed that we would be sitting in ... read more

My last night in Reading for the next few months, and with Edinburgh beckoning in September, one of my last nights as a resident of this fair town... ever? (never say ever...) What better way to celebrate this, and my friend Matt's birthday, than a curry with the lads (and lass) and some quality television. This time tomorrow I shall be hovering over Washington. Take care of England while I'm away, and in return I'll try and I'll take care of America. Tim x... read more

...and of course I've not yet begun to pack. I've instead been doing so much more important stuff like setting up a blog, ordering a battery charger for my camera battery (after remembering that the USA and South America only have half the electricity and two-thirds of the pins that we have the privilege of in Europe) and ensuring I have memory for my mp3 player. OK - I may forget my underwear or something but at least I can go commando to the sound of the Freestylers' Push Up (and have the photographs to post here). Hmmm. Maybe I should start packing. However, I have now got my injections, and the certificates and plasters to prove it. Must stay away from rabid animals though. Enjoy the coming journals. Cheers for reading, Tim... read more
