Spiksplinternieuwe elektrische fietsenfabriek in volle expansie. Perfect in orde, Zwitserse kwaliteit. Prijzen navenant. We konden er lunchen in het bedrijfsrestaurant. Spaghetti à volonté, met sausen naar keuze. Wel zelf te betalen. Prachtig bedrijf om te b... read more

08/09/16 – donderdag - dag 5 Verplaatsing naar Sempach. 203km. In 1386 ... read more

A must-have experience for any visitor to Switzerland is a rail journey through the majestic Swiss countryside, so first up on the agenda was a trip to Lucerne, a lakeside city with a mountainous backdrop, showcasing the perfect blend of where urban meets rural in a sufficiently compact realm. Barely an hour's train ride out of Zurich, Lucerne is the real essence of a Swiss resort town, where the urban buzz of the country's two major financial hubs (Zurich and Geneva) give way to old-town charm of an easy-going nature, with features a-plenty to earn its status as a tourist magnet. Similarly, the purchase of a museum card is a wise move for a day-tripper, as the list of museums which it allows entry to validates the cost, providing you make for at least 2 or ... read more

Now, we’ll grant you that most people living in the Northern Hemisphere like to find somewhere nice and warm about his time of year. They tire of perhaps being trapped in doors, looking at gray skies that produce rain or even snow (not to mention bone-chilling winds). We on the other hand were looking forward to cooling off after a month in the Middle East, where the temperatures were running some 10 to 20 degrees F hotter than the norm. When it gets to be that warm and you didn’t bring your shorts and flip flops because it wasn’t supposed to be that warm and that type of dress is sort of frowned upon in some countries, you are not as comfortable as you would like to be. This can make a traveler kind of fussy ... read more

The rain that set in our second day in Zurich followed us on our 2 hour train ride to Luzern (Lucerne). We all were prepared for the wet weather, and even the cold, thankfully but were disappointed that the sunny and warm city that Barb and I had visited a few years ago was cold and dreary for Larry & Lisa. Regardless, we mounted a good walkabout of the sights including the famous covered wooden bridge and a few other historic structures in and about old town, including the fortress walls and towers. Luzern is famous for cuckoo clocks as well as fine Swiss watches. The 3 story rolling ball clock at the Bucherer store that we saw 3 years ago had sadly been removed as part of their remodeling. These fine jewelry stores are a ... read more

So I am kind of lumping Lucerne and Interlaken into one post, but both were defiantly memorable. Lucerne was probably my favorite city out of the ones i visited. We took a boat ride around the lake; it was so cold, but so invigorating. The Alps were glorious and I had the most fun taking pictures here. We later walked around the town and came across adorable street performers playing the accordion and an instrument that I'm not too familiar with. Not to sound redundant, but it literally felt like a fairytale. Interlaken tested my bravery. We decided to go paragliding, something which goes against my irritating "all talk never do" mentality, which I am desperately trying to change...and this was the first step. I agreed and although I was mentally prepared to urinate from fear ... read more

Since it was a very cold day we layered up with all our warm clothes and in the early afternoon, headed for Zurich for a look at the Christmas decorations. We wandered the streets and up into the park overlooking the river waiting for the light to fade from the day. Once it got dark enough for the lights to be turned on we saw the spectacle that we came to Europe for. Zurich really turns it on! It was definitely a WOW experience. Trees were lit up. The building frontages seemed to want to outdo each other for the most decorative lighting. Decorated Christmas trees lined the Hauptbahnhofstrasse. Shop windows were ornate and filled with tasteful Christmas fare and above the main street hung a kilometre approximately of little sparkling lights hanging down like falling ... read more

Luzern (‘Lucerne’ in English) in Switzerland 24 and 25 October 2013 From Bellinzona to Luzern was a beautiful drive. We were driving towards the Swiss Alps. Because the area had heavy rain the previous day, there were many, many waterfalls and some of them were roaring down the mountain. We went through a multitude of tunnels of course, including the 17km Gotthard Tunnel. With these long tunnels, they have an FM station that you tune into and you can listen to the safety message as well as any news of accidents etc. It is a good service. The weather remained sunny with a flutter of clouds here and there. We arrived in Luzern at about 4.00pm and found a camp site right on Lake Luzern (44.80 Swiss Francs CHF per night – there is I CHF ... read more

Switzerland & Lucerne 26th September : We just made the train in Paris and were a bit stressed. The train seems to understand, because it whisks us at 320kph (indicated speed on the electronic panel) to Basel in complete comfort and de-stresses us. Make the change at Basel for a local Swiss train to Lucerne no problem, but cannot find the right carriage number; this doesn’t matter. The countryside from the train does not look that “Swiss” initially; urban areas, industrial back-yards and even graffiti. This changes as we leave the outskirts of Basel. Rolling green countryside becomes more picturesque and mountainous. Cattle grazing b... read more

Acabado o tour, uma ... read more
