I travelled to Stockholm to umpire the Grand Final of the Stockholm Australian Football Federation (SAFF). This was my first trip to Stockholm. Stockholm is a beautiful city and I had a great time there. ... read more

Rather excited as I've just set up my profile on Travelblog.org to document and share my impending journey to become an EFL teacher in Asia and all other traveling. Just feel though it would be a shame to not share some of my more recent past trips with others. Only really going to post photos of these trips and perhaps add some more text at a later date. Stockholm, Sweden: Myself and two mates (and current work colleagues) decided to have a long weekend in Stockholm in September 2005. The weekend was great and I have some fantastic memories, although admittedly most are rather hazy from self-indulgence, the photos speak for themselves! ... read more

We FINALLY arrived in Stockholm after over 24 hours traveling by train to get there. We started out going from Linz back to Vienna, then took a night train from Vienna to Hamburg (which went back through Linz so we actually could've just stayed in Linz and cut nearly 3 hours off of our travel time by jumping on the train in Linz but we didn't realize it until the next morning in Hamburg!!!), missed the Hamburg stop (it was the train steward's fault... she told us the train was 30 minutes late, but it wasn't) and got off the train in a different part of Hamburg, took the subway back to the right Hamburg station, went to Copenhagen, changed trains to get to Malmo (which included the train riding on a ferry across the water), ... read more

Hi Everyone. So Stockholm.. well getting here was an adventure. The night train I was on had some sort of difficulties, never really did figure out what the problem was, but we were stuck in the middle of nowhere for 5 hours waiting for another train to come and take us the rest of the way to Stockholm. The time actually flew by as I met a Swedish woman, a Danish guy, an Australian guy and 2 Americans. We had a great time getting to know each other and pooling all our food for breakfast. The train company then gave us all food vouchers for the train station and Patrick, the Aussie, and I used them to buy beer!! Stockholm is a beatiful city.. I love it!! There are islands and bridges everywhere and they are ... read more

Well, ready or not, today is the day I am departing for Bhutan, and no stupid eye is going in between. My project manager was very reluctant to see me go even though he had okayed my holiday himself, although cleverly pretending not to remember any such arrangements. He also suggested that if I felt that my holiday would be spoiled by a damaged eye I was welcome to continue work on the project instead. Yeah right, fat chance! Instead my bags are packed and it is early rise to catch the bus to Stockholm which departs at 6.30, and all things considered it is a comfortable ride. I succeed in being asleep for the most part. Arriving at Stockholm Central Station I quickly transfer to the airport express train and arrive at Arlanda airport without ... read more

Well, back at the hospital again. My eyesight has been pretty much blasted during the past few days and I get a new appointment with another doctor. They conclude that my vision is down to 0.3 and that maybe the medication wasn't the best thing to do. The infection has become worse since last time around and the general theory is that the cortizon that was supposed to blast the virus has mainly succeeded in disassembling the immunosystem instead. Nice going! The head doctor is summoned into the room, and he looks into my eye for a whole fifteen seconds before recommending even stronger medication and then disappears as quickly as he came, and I am starting to lose my faith in the system. Fortunately the doctor shares my opinion about leaving out the heavy stuff ... read more

What lousy timing! Normally when I return home from a longer trip somewhere it is almost certain that I will be floored by some kind of illness, typically light fever and a cold. This time however I had neatly avoided it even though people were running around my workplace with running noses and discrete coughs, and I felt pretty good about that, until at the end of last week when I suddenly noticed my left eye was starting to get wee bit red. Not really caring that much about it until yesterday when the entire white had been replaced by a nice blood red colour, generally turning the eye into looking like some funky piece of meat. My eyesight is not affected though, and having initially wanted to wait it out I realize it may be ... read more

Hi All So I left Malmo yesterday and took the train to Gothenburg. Leaving Hanna's would have been a lot harder but we had to run for the right bus to take me to the train station and so there was no time to be sad.,. haha Gotherburg is a great city.. I wandered all the cobblestone streets and sat in the outdoor cafe's with a glass or two of wine.. I went to 2 catherdrals and a musuem, but the really cool museum is a floating maritime museum.. They have 13 ships in the harbour that you can check out.. Most of them were built in the early 1900's and have been donated to the musuem. It was so great. I went all the way through an old submarine and you could see where they ... read more

Hey all Well most of you probably though i dropped off the face of the earth. But in actuality i had just gotten lazy. Most of you also know that i am already back. Why so early you ask? Well lots of reasons but mainly because i felt like coming back. So last time we left off was in Budapest. At this point i had already made up my mind to come back the end of the August. Salzburg, Austria Probably the biggest thing here, besides Arnold, is the castle on top of the hill. With spectacular views in every angle, you truly get a sense of how beautiful this place really is. Munich & Berlin, Germany Land of Oktoberfest, sausage, and lots of BMW's, LOTS! Germany is a cool place though. I was in Berlin ... read more

Its a red eye SAS flight to Stockholm on Saturday morning and I am just a wee bit nervous - with a record number of air disasters in the month I don't exactly want to get onto a plane. However, its a 2 hour uneventful flight over the north sea and its just past 10AM when we land at Arlanda airport at Stockholm. It is a bright sunny day and the Arlanda express gets us into town in under 20 minutes. To get to the city from Arlanda there are a number of options. You can either take the Arlanda express which can be a tad expensive (2 single one way tickets on the weekend fare come for 200 SEK - on a workday day, a single one way ticket would cost you that much). You ... read more
