We left the municipal albergue at about 6am, heading towards Ciruena or Cirinuela, depending on where you looked. After about 2 hours of walking, we arrived at Cirinuela, a rather large and largely unused golf course and apartment building group. It seemed like a ghost town, but we saw that at least some of the apartments were occupied. Right next to it is the town of Ciruena, a rather small town. After passing through the apartment complex, we came to a bar, Bar Jacobeo, where we stopped for breakfast. After our breakfast, we walked only for less than half an hour before we spotted Santo Domingo de la Calzada, although it was quite a ways still. There was a nice little rest area not too far out of town, but we kept on walking. We reached ... read more

Viana Our stay in Viana was a bit longer than expected but was much needed. It was healing time. It is truly amazing what the body can endure. In our 'healing' time we were able to enjoy a wonderful dinner out at a quiet little restaurant during the towns 'siesta' the first evening. Most Pilgram meals come with a good bottle of wine and it is much appreciated. Relax, sip some Vino and reflect. The evening was cool and the mattresses soft. Ahh. Our second day we explored the ruins in Viana, the beautiful Cathedral de Santa Maria. We were able to tag onto a school group that was taking a tour and it was most beautiful. We walked, rested and prepared a meal of chicken noodle soup (around 3 pm), bread and fresh tomatoes and ... read more

Today's stage was a pleasant 7.2 km walk to Granon along country paths through ploughed wheat fields. We had a coffee and caught up with Jan, the Dutch nomad who sleeps outside. He slept in the square last night and was woken by the police this morning; gently but no coffee. Our sleep last night was the worst we had. In a room of about 20 people the nocturnal noises can be overbearing. Combine that with bunks that screech like rusty gates even if you think about moving and you can form a picture. We walked through 5 small villages today and, being a Saturday, we had a chance to see a little village life. As we left San Domenico there was a family preparing a seasons passata sauce and had a pretty good system going ... read more

We walked 23km today. Another very cold day.....I still have a cough all tho it hasn't got any worse but am tired and don't really feel like walking today. The first town we came to we stopped and had a coffee and a bread roll with bacon egg and tomato with some herbs...tasted pretty good.....They have great fresh crunchy bread and pastries....We have got into the habit of buying 2 bread sticks today for tomorrow so its not crunchy when we get to it..and we always share one and carry the other for about 3 days then get sick of carting it around then decide to throw it away...then do it all over again...think we would work it out....did eventually ....started buying one stick and eating the following day...no wastage but still no crunchy bread. Jacqui ... read more

Today´s walk ended with a swimming pool. A glorious, blue, shimmering, cool pool, and the relief was deep. Because I´d say today´s walk was the most difficult yet. And quite unexpectedly so. It was only a 21 km jaunt, but for some combination of reasons inner and outer, it felt like 40. Europe´s in a heat wave so that doesn´t help. I got drunk last night watching the Spain match, so that didn´t help. I got lost in the morning, taking a wrong turn and walking 1.5km out of my way for a total of 3 lost kms. Bad bad start. Heat building steadily, bag getting heavier, shoulders aching, road stretching like a long sweaty yawn across the repetitive terrain of wheat fields. Out of the wine region now, so just wheat, wheat, more wheat. I ... read more
