Spent my first proper day in Donostia (more commonly known as San Sebastian) today. Actually, I kinda slept half the day still recovering from my Pamplona experience, and even after getting up, I didn't do much. I basically just wandered Gros (the name of the district to the east of the river in San Sebastian) and one of the beaches (Playa de la Zurriola). The beach supposedly has some surfing, and I was contemplating picking up a few lessons until I saw that the "waves" were a little small....even for a beginner. Aside from that, I've just been in this internet cafe for about 2 hours (internet here is cheap at €1.80 an hour) clearing the backlog of entries. I usually write them on time, but depending on the time and cost of internet, I often ... read more

Kia Ora everyone, how are you hope all is well,im doing great after a crazy 2 weeks in London and Spain, I am very glad to say I do not know of anyone who had a friend or loved one around the bombings here and I hope you all can say the same. London is shaken up and using the underground is a bit scary now. Im glad we were all in Spain at the time. I arrived in London on the 26th totally tired and sick, did meet some interesting charaters on the trip however including the Black Ferns on a Candian tour and a very cool dude who owned the corner dairy who took me all the way to the airport. Thanks alot Chow wherever you are! London was crazy as I had no ... read more

Well, San Sebastian continued to be the highlight of my trip thus far, and just as one boyfriend leaves, a potential husband arrives! Paul and Belinda arrived yesterday morning (they had stayed a couple of extra days at Pamplona) and I showed them around town. We went to the beach, did some shopping, and they got settled into our pension. I felt like I was bringing them to my own home! Miranda was leaving today, so Dan moved into the room with me and Paul and Belinda had the other room to themselves. At night, the four of us went to tapas dinner (tapas are actually called pinxos in Basque country), then we grabbed a bottle of wine and drank it on the boardwalk near the beach. While standing there, Paul started chatting with 3 Aussie ... read more

Still madly in love with San Sebastian! In fact, I will only accept a marriage proposal if it's made in the big square here, with all the people in their houses around the square throwing rose petals down on us and my fiance on one knee. (Future husbands, take note). So, after we ran ecstatically around the pension for a little while, and took hot showers, the sun came out and we headed out, deliriously happy and hungry for lunch. We stopped in a restaurant where the menu made our mouths water (who am I kidding... all San Sebastian menus are mouth-watering, this one was just the first one we found). Unfortunately, we had mediocre pasta, mediocre wine and mediocre service. To top it off: as she turned to reach into her purse, which had been ... read more

My adrenal glands better be in top form, because I'm going to be banking on them tonight. The story starts last night really back in Barcelona. I remember lining up at Quinze Nuits at about 9:30, and it was 10:30pm by the time we were seated. Dinner really was good, because by the time I bid adieu to my new friends, my watch read 12:30am. I still had to do laundry, and there were a few problems with that. One involved me forgetting a map of Barcelona in a pocket and having to repeat a rinse cycle. Another involved the washing machine door refusing to open at the end of a cycle. Add in my shower, drying (European dryers are painfully slow), packing and general last minute stuff, it was 5am by the time I was ... read more

San Sebastian has taken the number one space so far on this trip, and I can't imagine it being replaced anytime soon. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it here!! What a GORGEOUS city!! So, the bus ride took an hour or so. Me, Dan, Miranda and Dominic arrived in the morning headed straight to the Internet Cafe (Donosti-Net, or something). We hadn't already booked accommodation, which we'd been told was not the wisest move as everyone on Earth is looking for accommodation in San Sebastian during the festival. But we were optimistic that we'd find something. So we parked ourselves at computers and began our search. After a couple of hours of no luck, I went outside for a cigarette to relieve the stress a little bit. As I was standing there talking to a few Aussie ... read more

After a huge night out on Saturday with all the crew rounded up at the Lyfield flat, we took a train out to one of Londons smaller airports to sleep on the floor of the departure lounge so we didn't miss our early morning flight to Bilbao, Northern Spain. so good to hug and punch a few of my best friends from home who I hadn't seen for over a year, and of course we all hit off as if we hadn't missed a day and were all as equally excited as eachother to get down to Spain and relaxe on the beach together like old times. And we weren't let down either, San Sebastian was our first destination which provided days of sun, beach, ocean, boobs, old friends, new friends, wine and dancing... and then ... read more

Motorhome News from Europe 4 France - and into Spain!. 28th September 2004 The Pyrenees and Picos It is now just four weeks since our journey began, every day another adventure with new towns and villages, wild open spaces and tree covered hillsides, another mountain to climb, new faces, time for meaningful conversation, and to make new friends. Our journey has taken us through the valleys of the Chateau on the Loire to the verdant pastures of the Dordogne and the Lot, and south into the vineyards of Bordeaux and the beeches and forests of the Atlantic coast. Our first sighting of the Pyrenees was from Lourdes some ten days ago where we turned south-east, then back, south and west, enjoying the spectacle of both French and Spanish mountains and tree lined valleys. In the past ... read more
