Ok Lloyd and I decided last minute to skip Bulgaria head east and go to Bucharest, Romania. This town is really cool and I strongly recommend checking it out if you're ever in the vicinity. We stayed at the Elvis hostel where the girls at the reception were fun and super helpful. Lloyd and I decided to stay here for three days and really take in the city. We went out two nights and met a ton of locals. They have a rather pesimistic view on life, but they are really nice to talk to. WE took a tour of the "peoples parliment" which is the 2nd largest building in the world next to the Pentagon. It's 3 kilmoteres around (2 miles). Also behind the parliment is a recreation of the Champs Elyse which in order ... read more

First off let me preface this email by telling you that i am one the top 50 richest people in Romania at this very moment. When we got off the train from Belgrade we went to get some money from the ATM and there currency is so confusing. I was trying to withdraw 500 000 Liu but somehow managed to take out 5 million! anyway Last night Adam and I went out on the town. I sat and polished off a bottle of fine Serbian red wine whilst reading Angels and Demons (45 pages to go) Then had some baltic vodka and fanta(oh how i love fanta) Walked around to this club Fire place, beers were 20 000 Liu which is 66 cents for a half liter! Brilliant. OH for dinner we had these heaven sent ... read more

So I washed my whole body with hand soap this morning in Bucharest. Have managed to misplace my tooth paste, brush and floss (sorry ma). I think it is all falling apart. No I am good, took the 15 hour train ride from Belgrade to Bucharest yesterday. Met this somewhat crazy guy who kept trying to show us naked pictures of these guys in the magazine and persisted to talk to us in whatever language he was speaking for hours on end, untill he was kicked out by the conductor. Reading Angels and Demons by Dan Brown now, good read. It's basically exactly the same as the Da Vinci Code, no complaints. Got the Kiterunner lined up next, lots of reading for me - ohhh yes. Debating whether or not to take the 28 hour round ... read more

So - it has been a while since our last posting; for both good and bad reasons -we have been too happy and having too good a time to be bothered tying ourselves to a computer at times, and at others we have been too stressed. This is the way things go on the road however, as in life generally, there are up times and down, good and bad. We have been forced to change even our sketchy plans by circumstances we did not foresee or want, but more of this later. As usual we will continue the story from where we last left it, and the rest will be explained in due course…… We decide to escape the overflowing campsite in Sighisoara and head towards Brasov, another hot afternoon on the road but at least ... read more

Travelling is something that everyone wants to experience in this life. Some can do it for all their life and turn it into passion, some can make it a job. I - like many others - will try to make it a passion and like all of you..share my feelings and cultural shocks :)... read more

We've made it to Romania. This was one of the countries I was most looking forward to when I was planning to cycle this route. I had heard of great mountian chains, bears and dracula. It is so beautiful here and we are here in a heat wave, this part is not so good for cycling so we are rested up in Sighisoara, a beatuful UNESCO recognised medieval citadel and the bitrhplace of Dracula, aka Vlad the Impaler. We finally managed to leave L'viv after struggling to fit the new local tyre I had bought there. The road out of town was hot and the camp that night in a field was plagued with mosquitoes from hell . The Ukrainian Steppe is infested with the largest mosquitoes I have ever seen! We now understand why the ... read more

It seems that I exist in a time vacuum, having no concept of the days of the week, or the uncanny ability that time has to fly by. Really it's unbelievable to me that it is now August, another month is gone, and another country awaits. However, the next stop will not be reached without a considerable amount of suffering as my train trip from where I am now in Suceava, Romania to Kiev, Ukraine will take me roughly 23 hours. I can't say that I'm very much looking forward to this one, especially considering the last few trips I've taken on trains here in Romania where a simple 3 hour train can turn into a ride from hell when you understand what the "gypsy factor" is. Basically what that means is that you're on a ... read more

Time has passed again without me even knowing. Two more days have come and gone before I had a chance to tell you everything that is going on here in Romania. Yesterday (Tuesday) we visited the village of Nushfalau and set up the clinic in their church there. They have a two-story church and we were able to set up the clinic upstairs and the VBS/waiting room down stairs. The clinic saw about 200 people and Tom was able to share the gospel with those that were waiting upstairs. We had VBS downstairs and were able to even share the Bible stories with the adults that were waiting. It was a long day but we were able to do a lot of good. Today (Wednesday) the medical clinic went to the village of Zauan. This time ... read more
