After 24 hours on the train i got to Bucharest. spent 7 days in Bucharest i actually only left the hostel to see the sights 2 times the rest of the time was just spent drinkin and relaxin at the hostel..Bucharest itself is not the best place ive been to its just another city.. there are some cool things to see there and the people are nice. the Palace of parliament which is the 2nd biggest building in the world is priddy impressive.. the nut that was in power made over 70,000 people homless to build it.. there are also some other nice buildings around the city which i happend to wonder past one of the days i left the hostel.. eventually i did leave with james an american guy to brasov.. the train ride to ... read more

Plans have changed. My grandfather passed away today. Have gone to Romania. Not sure when my trip will resume. Mum's flying over. Isn't it ironic how reunions always happen under the worst of circumstances... Take care everyone- of each other. Love Deni.... read more

Ed: Now, if you arrive at an airport and a taxi driver meets you at the gates, and tells you he can take you to town, and grabs yours bags and starts walking away, without giving you an opportunity to say a word, surely alarm bells start ringing. But oh no, not to Matthew. He happily followed this strange man and obediently stepped into his 70’s Dacia (Communist era car brand) with no door handles and rather dodgy-looking meter. Despite my objections, I too get into the car and we are taken into town at the cost of nearly ten times the normal rate. This was our welcome to Romania, one of the last pillars of the Soviet Union who only as recently as 1989 revolted against a megalomaniac dictator (Ceausescu) and is now desperately hoping ... read more

We arrived into Bucharest and took a metro to the Elvis Villa Hostel where we had planned to stay. We ate a typical Romanian Meal of pork leg and beans, bought some beers and settled down to watch Arsenal v Villareal. We had a relatively lazy morning before leaving the hostel to see Bucharest's major tourist attraction, the Parliamentary Palace. After first finding the wrong palace and then stumbling accross teh royal palace it was a major anti-climax. Billed as the second largest building in Europe, it was big. And thats all I have to say about that.
