It was a very nice weekend in some lovely weather. We had sort of miscalculated which day it was on so we had to rush the day we got back to Amsterdam but it was worth it - a great way to meet up and catch up with lots of friends and to enjoy a very well organised day. Apparently a picture is worth a thousand words, so I'm going to leave it at that....... read more

Untitled Monday late night/Tuesday (travel time) Bruce and I caught a late flight (11 pm) from Santorini back to Athens, and as luck would have it, it was late leaving. From Athens Bruce was heading home and I was continuing my trip. Final stop- The Netherlands via Frankfurt, Germany. Because Bruce had an early morning flight (6 am), he only had about 4 hours to sleep. On the other hand, my plane left after 11 am, so I woke up around 8am (sorry Bruce) and got to enjoy the nice pillow-top bed, the tub, the shower, and all the other amenities. This was a top-notch hotel, the best one I stayed at during my whole trip (which isn't saying much really), and by far the most expensive. We had to stay there because of Bruce's departure ... read more

Nina came over in the morning to say goodbye because she was leaving for her home in Hildesheim, Germany. It was sad to know that I wouldn't see her for probably more than 6 months. Thank goodness for Skype and webcams! I called Lea, but she was already at the airport ready to fly to Israel, so we will meet there! I then called my friend and past classmate, Andra, and we decided to meet at 1:00 to catch up. It was SO good to see her and talk about all sorts of things, laugh, and be in each other's company. I missed her so much, but when I think about it, we didn't hang out all the time when I was living in Enschede. Our personalities just clicked and have a lot of the ... read more

When I arrived in Eindhoven, it was rainy and cold! What is this? It's supposed to be hot and summery! Well I didn't pack winter clothes and Nina and Wiebke told me that the weather was going to be that way for a while. I slept at Wiebke's that night on an air mattress, woke up, and went to Nina's for an hour while Wiebke went to the university for something. Then the 3 of us hung out at Wiebke's for a while, had some lunch and then went into the city center for some shopping! First, we went to H&M (my favorite, and they don't have it in Seattle) and tried on so many things. I only spent 36 euros and got a pair of long pants, a black sweater, a funky tank top/shirt, and ... read more

... read more

Ah the camera has made a comeback. Welcome back I said. I'm still not up to a heck of a lot. I ran the half-marathon in Leeuwarden the other week where I finished third so was OK for a bit. However upon receiving my prize they called my name out as Kees Kuiper (or something). I mean, I'm in the Netherlands- I don't have to spell my name out or correct people a billion times a day- so I expect a bit bit better from the Leeuwarden marathon. But on the otherhand, Kuiper does sound pretty good. Now I'm in the middle of the Netherlands somewhere, staying with other relatives, so I'm getting closer to Amsterdam etc. Yesterday I cycled from one city to another, it was around 80ks, via all sorts of little towns ... read more

So, we rented a car in amsterdam - got a 2 door ford ka, super cute and tiny and blue. marc drove - my last experience with a stick shift resulted in a broken clutch....yeah, i'm a bit special. so my maternal grandfathers family is from olst, a tiny village in the eastern part of the country. so off we go, driving, driving, driving. we get there and it's market day! so i think that we were the only people to actually visit from outside of the village in a long time - we actually found people that didn't speak english. and i'm happy to report that when i would go up to a counter they automatically spoke to me in dutch, made me feel like i fit right in. so at the end of the ... read more

This was my last week of school and on Thursday, Susanna invited me to go to a lunch at the faculty club with the head of the Communications dept and also my friend Bro, who wants to go to Seattle next year. I thought the faculty club was just a cafeteria for faculty members but it was a complete restaurant with waiters and table linens! Quite cool and I ordered a goat cheese and honey salad that was great, but still not as good as my mom's salads. =) We talked about Seattle, UT, and the differences, etc etc. After lunch, I rushed to my last mulitcultural class to give a presentation about our topic. Andra and I went first and I was a bit nervous since I hadn't given a presentation in a while. But ... read more

I returned to Enschede Saturday evening from a friend and family-packed weekend in Edam and Amsterdam. I checked my email and a nice lady from the university named Susanna sent me an email inviting me to watch a Korfbal game. A what game? I had never heard of Korfball before - it sounds more like a German baked good with sausage meat inside or something. I figured I could research ahead of time on the internet to find out what Korfbal was, but I decided to skip the brainy research and just blindly go there waiting to be surprised. Susanna is my coordinator/liason at my university. She's the one that always offers me a cup of coffee whenever I come to visit her, the one that reassured me after I busted into her office crying with ... read more

In between all my travels and day trips, I've actually been going to school, believe it or not! This past Saturday, I met up with Nina for a weekly coffee break. We decided to try out a new cafe called Le Monde (means "The World" in French). The place was quieter and more like a restaurant than a bar/cafe. We both just had a cappucino and the bill came out to 3.30 euros. I only had a 20 euro bill and so I gave it to the waiter guy and Nina gave me some change. The waiter returned with my change and left. I looked down at my change: one 20 euro bill, one 10 euro bill, and a 1 euro coin... I'm so confused! I stare down at the change trying to figure out what ... read more
