Hello all! Sorry - it has been a while since the last update - that was Dublin. We have been travelling up the eastern side of the coast of Ireland. We made it through Belfast just to leave and hear of the political problems that they are having - over 700 people rioting through the streets. I am glad we missed that... We will attach a few pics for you. You will see the Silent Valley, Monasterboice, Carrick-a-rede Rope Bridge, Slieve League, and the Causeway. Ireland has been very beautiful and we have experienced very little rain. We are now in Galway and will start our trip back towards Dublin tomorrow. We will stop somewhere for the night and end up in Dublin Friday, mid-day. Saturday morning we are flying to Prague to start Eastern Europe ... read more

Another morning at the keyboard as the rain comes down outside. There were plans of more golf today but its unlikely now. The forecast isn't good but I'll be leaving here tomorrow morning (on a 7am flight) back to London. I have one week back in Fulham courtesy of Dom and Amanda and then heading off to Seville in Spain. As many are aware the final Ashes test started yesterday but there isn't much cricket on the TV here in Ireland despite the fact that they have qualified for the next cricket world cup in the West Indies (something I wasn't aware of). Thankfully I was receiving a string of text messages from Australia keeping me up to date! I had a couple of Guinness with another cousin of ours (Jim) and his wife Pat who ... read more

An afternoon’s golf in Ballybunion. Thursday 8th September. Spent the morning preparing for an afternoon’s golf at Ballybunion. I had not really intended playing any golf here, especially as I hadn’t hit a ball in anger for about three years but after enjoying hitting an hour of practice balls at the driving range I was inspired to take up cousin Paudie’s offer of a round of golf on the famous course. As mentioned in my first Irish entry, things are very expensive in Ireland and a round of golf would usually set you back €135 however, as my cousin is a life member “I’ll show them my gold medal!…” he exclaimed, it was only going to cost me €10. The morning started with a brisk walk around the town, followed by 1030am visit to church (I ... read more

Ok, So i'm finally going to get this going so that you can see what I have been up to over here in Europe. As you obviously know, Kevin and I flew to London for a night and then headed to Dublin for a couple nights. We stayed in the Litton Lane Hostel which used to be where U2 and Sinead O'connor used to record their albums. It was right off the River Liffey which runs down the center of Dublin. We explored a bit, ate McDonalds a lot and eventually figured out where we should go to see the best places along the east coast which meant taking the DART train system down the coast. Ireland was a lot of fun, very pretty and I recommend going. There is a lot to see and Dublin ... read more

Dublin - 1 Week I spent a week with a friend of mine who I travelled with in South America. I used the week to walk around the city and see the usual array of nice looking buildings that european cities have, I went to see a gaelic football match which I think was more exciting than normal football, I worked hal a day posting leaflets through letter boxes and I drank silly amounts of guiness. A cool week... read more

Okay, it's official. We made it to Ireland and we found out that Patrick Pierce is here! We hooked up with him for a couple of days. Patrick is the one in the pic - with us at a pub. We originally planned to visit Northern Ireland first but we had to take advantage of some native hospitality. We are headed to Northern Ireland on Tuesday the 6th. My first challenge (Doug) was to acclimate myself to driving on the left side of the road and the driver seat on the right side of the car. I think I only scared Mary once... but we survived without any damage to the car, us, or any pedestrians. Tomorrow we are off to the Guinness Brewery and to visit more pubs. You'll hear more from us soon! ... read more

Friday 2nd September: Early start to catch the 850am flight from London Standsted to Ireland. The weather on arrival in Ireland was spectacular and I couldn't have asked for a nicer day. I'm currently staying in a town called Ballybunion in County Kerry, nestled on the Atlantic coast and probably most famous for its golf course, often rated in the top ten courses in the world. Amazingly Ballybunion golf course gets almost as many visitors per year as St Andrews in Scotland, I managed to catch a glimpse of the late afternoon sun behind what's known as the Castle Green, the remains of a castle built by the Gearldines in the middle of the 14th century. The castle sits atop a headland dividing what used to be known as the men's and ladies strands (beaches). Amazingly ... read more
