This weekend Jay and I went to Cork, Ireland to visit our friend Ryan from Swarthmore. We got in late Friday night and met up with Ryan. We dropped our stuff off at his place and went out for the night. We got back to his flat pretty late and watched some episodes from season three of the OC on Ryan's computer. Sleepless, Jay and I caught the 6AM bus to Dublin. It was a four hour ride through some beautiful countryside. Once we got there we headed to the Guinness factory. We took the self guided tour, got our complimentary pint, and spent some money in the shop. It was a great experience and we were definitely happy with our decision to take the four hour bus ride. We passed on the Irish lunch and ... read more

Today we drove to Malahide Castle NE of Dublin, north of Howth. It was a really special place! Lotsa green grounds around, and the castle itself had a coffee room with nice displays of castle-y things. We had a bowl of chips-irish chips are realllyy nice, probably because they eat so many potatoes. We drove to Phoenix Park as well-the largest park in the world! there was a zoo but we didn't get to see any animals on our drive through! it was very pretty though. Later we went to Trinity College in town, parking outside the National History Museum. The College was very traditional looking, with cobble pavements! There was a more modern looking part to the college as well. Took loadsa photos! Then we walked through town to have dinner at the Malaysian place ... read more

Today we stopped in town and went to Dublin Castle, and went into a small church with nice architecture and traditional Anglican style. the national art museum in Ireland, and the national history museum.. the national history one was no way as good as the one in London, there were really limited fossil and rock displays, mostly they were reconstructions of birds and animals living in certain history periods, and most of the displays were covered up with leather covers and so we had to lift them up to see what was inside. It would have been so much better and brighter if they didn’t cover them! Then rock displays were put to the side as if they weren’t very important! It was also a very dark place, sorry this is all criticism, but all in ... read more

So I came home...after all the excitement, after trying so hard to miss every boat and plane possible....and god knows there was alot to miss on my 3 day journey home! The pilot announced our descent into dublin, the view of patchwork fields almost has me doubting why I want to leave this place so much...and suddenly just as i recognised a land mark, visability is gone and the plane as with dublin is incased with grey skys and biting rain.....ugh! Well it keeps up my record of never landing in Dublin in sunshine! always being told that "it was sunny yesterday" or "its being sunny all week"....BUT, I don't care i want sunshine now!!!!! so, very kindly all the gang met me at the airport....and we all made our own way gradually over the night ... read more

We're back in Dublin and thought we'd make one final entry from Ireland. This one doesn't have any pictures, but on the request of some people, here are our thoughts about our time here: The scenery was incredible. Based on the couple of pictures we sent, you can see that the terrain was rather rugged in Northern Ireland, particularly in County Antrim. When we got to the Cliffs of Moher it was raining, so those photos won't show the cliffs in all their beauty, but it was still a sight to see. We have both enjoyed driving through the smaller towns and meeting the locals. They seem to have taken a liking to Doug (I wonder why???) and he was able to get a few of them to buy him a couple of pints. People-wise, we ... read more

Hello all! Sorry - it has been a while since the last update - that was Dublin. We have been travelling up the eastern side of the coast of Ireland. We made it through Belfast just to leave and hear of the political problems that they are having - over 700 people rioting through the streets. I am glad we missed that... We will attach a few pics for you. You will see the Silent Valley, Monasterboice, Carrick-a-rede Rope Bridge, Slieve League, and the Causeway. Ireland has been very beautiful and we have experienced very little rain. We are now in Galway and will start our trip back towards Dublin tomorrow. We will stop somewhere for the night and end up in Dublin Friday, mid-day. Saturday morning we are flying to Prague to start Eastern Europe ... read more
