Well apparently I didn't explain enough!! I did not in fact go to Guiness Brewery. Correction, I went, but it had just closed. The guy I was walking with and I got lost, but I think I'll have enough time to see it before I go to the airport tomorrow. By "going out" and stuff, I meant that I was walking and some people invited me to go with them to whereever it is that they were going. And as for the British guy that I met on the Cornwall tour...here is why he's creepy. He told some other guy on our tour that he goes on these tours to sleep with women because they're easier...when the other guy asked him how he got so many girls, he said you slip them a rufie (I dunno ... read more

Finally found out why part of Ireland is with the UK and the other part is with the EU...apparently a long time ago with the IRA (Irish Republican Army) wanted to break completely away from the UK, but the UK would only agree if they got to keep 6 provinces...so... there ya have it! Picking up from Wales... I took the megabus from Cardiff to London, but the megabus had broken down, so I had to take a metro (around town sort of bus) to London! Luckily no one sa next to me so it wasn't that uncomfortable. I arrived in London at 6:30pm and I was so tired so I took a 2 hour nap and then wandered around to get some food. I ate at this Aussie cafe and had an Aussie meat pie!! ... read more

we are having a blast on our trip so far! the four of us just got into london, england this morning, but we were very sad to leave dublin. the drama of dublin came with rachel's luggage. continental airlines misplaced her luggage, and anne (the mother of the family that we stayed with) spent literally hours on the phone trying to find her backpack. other than that, we've had a wonderful time. our first two days there were sunny! we were very pleased. the first night, we celebrated stephie j's birthday at a pub with sinead, the murphys' 23-year-old daughter. we tried real irish beer that wasn't guinness, and afterwards we walked up the street to grab a bite to eat. anne served as our taxi driver that night and for the rest of our time ... read more

It ended up being Caher because the caves tour was in another hour and also everyone was worried that, because of the rain, the caves would be dripping wet. (more than likely) Caher Castle (1142) offers tours but we chose to just wander around and feel the atmosphere of the place. It is a very impressive river -island castle and if ever you wanted to see a castle on a rock, surrounded by a moat, (well river actually) full of turrets, towers, massive walls, defences and dungeons, this is it. The inside has not been done up like nearby Rock of Cashel and is smaller but it wins hands down for allowing you to wander around freely and ... read more

Rain again this morning but this time very heavy so no-one else interested in going out at all. I braved the day with an umbrella and had the monastic site pretty much to myself. It was wonderful to stroll around the old church, graveyard and especially the round tower. Drove the couple of last hours to Dublin and home Exhausted, happy and holding great memories of beautiful Ireland... read more

This was a great day! Probably our favourite. Unfortunately it was probably also the day that set off Christine's Asthma and Herve and Lauren's hay fever because the flowers were all blooming in the National Park and Muckross Gardens. (But we didn't know this until later although we should have guessed from Lauren's hay fever. She is the healthiest one amongst us since she has been put on the gluten and egg free diet, in future, if she gets snuffly from pollen exposure, I will ring the warning bells for Christine's asthma medication to start it's magic. Knowing this before would have saved us an emergency ward adventure..even Intensive care) when we returned and Christine experienced her first asthma attack in 5 years.) Killarney is a great town with all the mod cons and good pub. ... read more

The flight into Dublin was very cool, we were amazed how flat the countryside surrounding the city is, it was also extremely green - which of course reminded us of home! However once we landed it felt like we were back in London - a murky, drizzley day and about 15 degrees colder than Portugal! We were both hugely amused hearing the airport announcements in the strong irish accent, it sounds like someone is taking the piss - but then you realize, no no, thats how they ALL talk - heeheehee! We caught a couple of buses to our Hotel in an area just outside the city centre called Ballymun. The hotel was lovely, virtually brand new, but the surrounding area was quite surburban without too much to see of interest - which was probably ... read more

I know this is a blog site dedicated to travelling, and travel I did, but this particular blog is more about the experience of an Irish Wedding. My trip to Cavan was to attend my mate Paul's sisters wedding. Paul is from a large family of 8 siblings and this was the first time I'd met them. I flew into Dublin first thing in the morning and met Paul who was already there. He then drove me up to his home town. The weather was pretty good and it was my first chance to get a look at the Irish countryside. It is very green and lush, and reminded me a lot of home. As soon as we hit Cavan, I could see Brady signs everywhere. There was a Brady pub, a Brady Real Estate shop, ... read more
