Rain toady: good day for taking off for our next stop: The Gap of Dunloe. From Lisdoonvarna (The Burren), we avoided Limerick city y going South to catch a car ferry from Cty Clare to Cty Kerry. A quick journey. Soon we got to Tralee and as it was still raining we visited the Kerry the kingdom Museum. This was well worth the stop. The emphasis was on Irish (Kerry) history (even prehistoric) with excellent displays that bring the history to life. Downstairs is a walk through medieval (1450) village street. Christine and Lauren had to be dragged out of the Spy exhibition (celebrating the life of a spy but I can't remember his name) where they lifted fingerprints and analysed their criminal tendencies. (it's not looking good for Christine, Herve or me but Lauren is ... read more

We slept in a great YHA in Lisdoonvarna which is right in the middle of the Burren. Great rooms (we always get a private family room) and lots of other rooms like a reading room and even a bar with pool table etc. So Herve and I went in for a sleepy Guinness after the girls were put to sleep...we weren't far behind them as we were too tired to enjoy it. We decided to stay here another night to break up too much driving First morning trip was out to the Cliffs of Moher which is very close to the YHA. Spectacular and extremely unnerving. There is a section you can walk out on to without a rail which is frightening (well' for me anyway) From the Clis we could see a beach ar down ... read more

So due to the extra expense it was to travel to the cliffs of Moher we based ourselves in Killarny in hopes of traveling to one of the neighboring peninsula on the west coast of Ireland. We decided on the dingle peninsula which had been highly recommended by a travel guide at the towns information center. The tour was mostly a tease at how beautiful the coast of ireland can be when rain and dense fog arenºt covering the ground. Other then the tour we really didnºt do much else Killarny other then catch up on sleep to rid me of my cold. Unfortunately Laura caught some weird skin bites or rash from the hostel. Ahh shows what you get for living in hostels for 70 days. Next up: Lagos Portugal ... read more

Now I realise we are doing this Irish gig fast but we only have a week to get a feel for Ireland so we just did the small Conemarra loop. From Galway city we got off the main road at Maam Cross, headed NorthWest through Maam and Leenane and did a gorgeous drive around the Lettergesh, Renvyle (great beaches) and Letterfreck where we had our first of many pub lunches...and we also got to try our first Guinness in Ireland and if you have ever heard that Guinness tastes better in Ireland, well, it's true! The froth on the top is pure cream and the taste is smoother and richer. No comparison with the Guinness in a can or even in a London pub. We also got to give a local a ride to Lettergesh which ... read more

Rachel: First thing to say.... COWS! They in the field next to us as we landed... nice.... Not too much drama, we were able to find Rob's other bag that we didn't have..... Definately a good thing that Rob is not having me drive... pics will be shown soon.... the cringing will commence.... We are finding internet cafes ok but must be there in good time. Shops out here open late, close early. More to come once we have more time to add more things.... Rob: So I got my whip out and have been forcing Rachel to scale mountains with me and traverse through forests. She'll probably say it's not true but I'm sure she'll show some people the whip marks later. Otherwise things are going well. We've just finished up a tour of the ... read more

So, after our wonderful blarney castle experience, Lisa and i planned on visiting the cliffs of moher, however due to the high cost of getting there, we decided to head to killarney and take a day trip to the dingle peninsula instead. Lisa got a little sick, so we took it easy. the trip to the peninsula was nice, but would have been awesome had the weather cooperated. I might as well have been in a hockey rink in a bathing suit....it was rainy and so cold, and the fog was so dense, it made it difficult to make out the beautiful coast line. However, we did manage to get a few decent pictures....which youºll eventually be able to see when i get to a computer where i can post them. some gripes....i woke up ... read more

We landed in Shannon around 10am Ireland time (US time 5am)... We got the rental car and started on our way to Adare. We walked the main street and took some picures from afar. During the trip we have been able to get into some places or take pictures from outside. We then went to check in at our first B&B. The for the next leg of the day.... We went to Ross Castle in Killarney... we walked from our B&B to get there.... about 2km (1km equals 0.6 miles) We got there in time for the tour inside but not allowed to take pictures inside. Then there was the walk back taking a different route.... through the woods.... it was a longer walk...... ... read more

Tonight is our last night on the Emerald Isle. The sights have been amazing, and the people have been great. The locals have been more than accomidating, some going out of their way to help up. One woman at a bus stop ran into the store we were in to alert us that our bus had arrived. A repair man ran after us to give us some eye drops from his first aide kit when the store we were in had none. Its been everything that I've hoped for, and am sad to leave it behind. I didn't find a shilelah though, just painted sticks. Maybe I expected to much. On to Istanbul!... read more
