We reached the final destination of our original journey when we landed at Dublin airport early Sunday morning to be greeted by Danny (friend from NZ) and also by the worst weather we had encountered for quite a long time, there were strong winds, rain and it was bloody cold. We were slightly concerned that this was an Irish "summer". However, later in the day it cleared up a little and stopped raining long enough for Danny to play a game of cricket. We spent the day watching the cricket and saw the world cup final at the cricket club before heading to our new abode in Blackrock. We are staying in a semi-detached three bedroom house with our landlords next door. We are both playing cricket for a local club, Pembroke. In the first week ... read more

Tempus Fugit meaning "Time Flies" seen under a clock in last night's pub. Hello from Dublin! Wanted everyone to know we made it safely and catch you up on what we have been doing. We left Tucson Monday night (June 26th) after a warm send off and a birthday celebration for Marina. With the storage unit filled to the rim and all our legalities in order (thanks to Dad and Marline) we drove away waiving to the home I've lived in for nine years. We stayed the night in a hotel by the Phoenix airport and made the poor decision of a few too many toasts to our trip in the downstairs bar. Didn't end up in bed until after midnight and had to be up at 4 AM to catch the shuttle to the airport. ... read more

Hello my fellow travelers! This is the third of four posts about my trip to Ireland with Uffe in 2006. For our third day in Dublin we decided to head to an area known as the Temple Bar which is a lively area filled with bars and other cultural establishments in the center of Dublin. While me and Uffe had certainly spent quite some time in pubs so far on this trip, this day would up that quite a few notches. We started our day in style with a couple of pints at the Oliver St. John Gogarty Bar, a beautiful bar and restaurant all clad in a bright green color that really felt Irish to me. It was a very lovely place but after a couple of pints we decided to continue on and went ... read more

Hello my fellow travelers! This is the second of four posts about my trip to Ireland with Uffe in 2006. For our second day in Dublin we decided to just walk around the city and take in the sights as Dublin is a very beautiful city with a lot of historic sites to visit. So with a classical old map in hand we set out to try and navigate Dublin with our first site being the old Grattan Bridge. It was originally built as the Essex Bridge in 1676, then rebuilt in 1755 and then finally rebuilt again as the Grattan Bridge in 1872. From the bridge we headed up to the Christ Church Cathedral and the adjacent museum Dublinia. The cathedral is the oldest of the two medieval cathedrals in Dublin and was built around ... read more

Hello my fellow travelers! This is the first of four posts I'll make about a trip I did to Ireland together with my friend Ulf (called Uffe) in June 2006. As my parents and my uncle had decided not to make any more family trips I knew I had to take matters into my own hands. That made this the first ever trip that I planned on my own, a new experience in and off itself. We booked our flights out of Gothenburg, the nearest city to my friend Uffe's home in Trollhättan så I went to him the day before so that we could go to the airport together. However, we noticed that night that Uffe had, in his usual fashion, forgotten to check on his passport which had expired. So, our first order of ... read more

As am Irish American, I could think of no better place to spend my 25th Birthday than Dublin. To be more specific, I spend a great deal of the day wandering around the Guinness Storehouse. For anyone who´s never been to the Guinness Storehouse, its the original Brewery that has been converted into a living museum and churns out the brews it did years ago. On short, its a Mecca for beer. The interior is shaped like a giant pint glass of Guinness and the self guided tour is supposed to take you from the bottom floor up to the sky bar located at the top of the building that hosts first class views of the city of Dublin and is also where they give you your free pint, included in the admission. My tour however ... read more

I've been meaning to start this thing for several days now, and at almost 5:30 a.m. on Saturday morning (Dublin time), I am finally doing so. I shall start at the most appropriate spot: the beginning. Joe and I flew out of O'hare on Tuesday afternoon. Our flight to Philadelphia (with a later connection to Dublin) was scheduled at 4:10 in the afternoon, but when we got there at a couple minutes past 1:00, the nice lady behind the check-in counter informed us that there was an earlier flight leaving for Philly at 1:45. She put us on standby, and we got right through security, and as we were coming up to the gate, they paged our names over the intercom. We were the last two people on the plane, in the last two available seats. ... read more
