Hey up all, We are relaxing in beautiful Paros until the 17th then we move on to Ios next which is a party island, it is pretty quiet here but nice and loads of good beaches. Me and Pamela have named ourselves the Albino twins (or the pasty's) as we are the palest people here and we are scaring some of the local children. Since we are the only pasty's here everyone thinks we are twins. Spent a lot of time lying around on different beaches along the coast, the best one so far is called golden beach. Eating lots of pasta (in the apartment) and ice cream (thanks for the cabbage tip though :-) I may yet try it). The champagne of fizzy orange Fanta is everywhere, have tried all the flavours. Also eating Greek ... read more

When I boarded the overnight ferry headed to Ios, any romantic vision I had had of meeting independent budget travelers from around the world, exchanging stories over tea, and falling asleep with the smell of the Aegean in my hair, quickly was replaced with the harsh reality of a dirty boat crowded with cranky, dirty people. Although cabins are available, most people (and all students) purchase “deck seats.” People literally sleep on every surface of the ship—on all of the floor space and on any available bench, chair, or couch. I did not have a sleeping bag and could only imagine the amount of lice that would crawl in my hair if I slept on the floor, so I stayed awake for the entirety of the 9-hour ride to Ios. (Also, note that it gets very ... read more

I couldn't get up with the fast pace of backpacking and updating this journal. I am now back in the Uk at work, and am getting around to updating it. Where to begin- I love the fact that I woke up everymorning in a new place. The feeling you get after you've conquered a city. The way the city evolves from day to night. Travelling for me is about learning. . It also gives you so much freedom for yourself. YOu do only as much as you want to do- If you miss something it's your own fault. This type of independce is so new to me. I loved every bit of it. Although I am incredibly stubborn you live and learn. Isn't that what life's about? Oh wait you love as well. I could continue ... read more

So After a terrible bus ride from Corfu to Athens which consisted of 2 ferries and one extremely crazy bus driver, (ie passing cars on really curvy moutain roads) I finally got to Athens. I had been told to get out of Athens as soon as possible but I thought that it was pretty cool. Hung out with some pretty cool Aussies and checked out the acropolis. I thought that it was pretty neat except I thought that I was going to be able to walk around inside the actual parthenon but since they are doing work on it ( and have been since 2000) you can't. All and all I was really impressed with the size and in general how good it looked. After that checked out some more of the sights around Athens, namely ... read more

Yasas all, ended up in Naxos instead of Serifos as it is easier to get to Paros from here (only 45 minutes away). The ferry took us 5 hours from Athens and it was huge, we sat outside and I burnt my nose, I enjoyed it (not burning my nose; the ferry ride). When we arrived we were approached by a lady on a moped who asked us if we were looking for somewhere to stay she took us to look at a couple of apartments and we decided on the one without a shared toilet which was a bit more expensive but worth it as we have a huge terrace all to ourselves. Spent today at the beach getting nice and red and plan to do the same tomorrow except we are going to visit ... read more

Hello all, arrived in Athens at about 10.35 and got to the hostel at midnight. We are staying in a dorm with 2 rooms (2 beds in each) our room is the crap one and there isnt anywhere to lock our stuff so we chained it to the bed. The girls that were in the other room liked to talk a lot and sing early in the morning but unfortunately they left this morning (I was deeply saddened). We are a bit knackered but managed to make it to the Acropolis, olympic zeus columns, and took a bus tour. It is really nice and warm here and still really busy but will be glad to get to Seriphos tomorrow and lie on a beach! I think it takes about 5 hours by ferry to get there ... read more

Gina and I hiked to the top of Mt. Lycavittos, the ancient mountain just a few streets behind our apartment. The mountain’s peak offers one of the best views of Athens and its nearby islands. There is also a restaurant at the top, at which I’d like to one day hold a celebration (Mom, how about for your 60th?... read more

Ode to The Food Company… I spent Sunday recovering from Saturday night, by both sleeping and making phone calls to secure the contents of my stolen wallet. In the afternoon, Gina, Amanda, and I ventured to the Food Company, a restaurant written up in Lonely Planet as the only inexpensive restaurant in Kolonaki. The Food Company did not disappoint. It exceeded my highest expectations of any restaurant. The food was both delicious and inexpensive. With UB40 playing on the speakers and tables of hipster Greeks we hadn’t yet seen in Athens, the atmosphere was welcoming and relaxed. The three of us savored the best food we had yet eaten in Greece—a lentil and feta salad, meatballs with mashed potatoes, pasta with feta cheese and tomato sauce, and chocolate mousse cake that tasted like uncooked brownie mix. ... read more

We are just winding down our time in Europe, on Monday, Sept. 5 we will leave for South Africa. If when you read our upcoming blogs and think we've had a change in personality or mood swings, don't worry, we are not on drugs, we've just started our Malaria medication (the side effects include mood swings, crazy dreams and personality changes to name a few - but they are very unlikely). Our time on the Greek Island Naxos has been nothing short of relaxing. Our daily schedule is wake up around 10:30, cook breakfast, go to the beach until late afternoon, shower, go walk around town and watch the picture perfect sunsets everyday, go back to our studio and cook dinner. We've got it made! I don't think there has been a cloud in the sky ... read more
