So, finally some free time to send an update! So we ended our time in Spain with one more day in San Sebastian doing some hiking around the city, and then 2 days in Barcelona. We took our first night train from San Sebastian to Barcelona and I must say, it was surprisingly the best night's sleep we'd had in a long time. We were expecting to be sleeping in uncomfortable train chairs but lucky us we got actual beds. A luzury we hadn't had in almost a week because we'd been camping. So Barcelona was awesome. The architecture there is incredible. We went to La Sagrada Familia, the famous Gaudi temple and a few other well known Gaudi buildings. His work is very strange but also very cool. It kind of reminded me of ... read more

Greece (13th - 19th July, 2007) Visa requirements continue to be very strict! While in Greece it was a requirement to eat gyros, souvlaki, greek salad and greek yoghurt! What else can you do but follow the customs of the country you are in at the time?!! Athens We spent 2 days in Plaka in central Athens. The Acropolis just happened to be closed for those 2 days due to security staff striking. Just as well we were stopping briefly in Athens again before flying back to London. It was very hot in Athens. We did a great walking tour of Athens minus the Acropolis and enjoyed having a good laugh at all the 'whistle blowing' staff at the major monuments who blow their whistle when tourists get too close to monuments or appear as if ... read more

We both really love Greece, the only thing that hasn't been great has been the heat - it was over 42 deg today so we are struggling a bit! Mykonos is totally CRAZY - We stayed at Paradise Beach and it has the reputation as being the party beach of the islands so at least we kind of knew what to expect. The beach is beautiful but really crowed, not so bad that you can't find a space to relax for the day but just don't expect any privacy. We spent all day on the beach lazing around and swimming and our late afternoon/evenings at the beach side bars. The beach side bars start cranking their music from about 5pm onwards all competing to see who has the loudest sound system and best go-go dancers. By ... read more

It has been a crazy week. where to start! Well last weekend we toured around boetia (spelling? sorry), we saw where the theban sacred band was buried, and then visited a few museums and we also visited a site of an oracle. That was alot of fun because the site is up a cliff in a cave. and the story is that people would climb up and crawl into this cave and then fall into a pit, and while lying there they would be visited by the oracle and it would answer their questions. so John younger our director and a few other students climbed up. So then we took off to glah. A crazy site that is completely overgrown. While hiking through thistles and bushes Tyler got stung by a wasp...and john fixed him by ... read more

Having just returned from an amazing trip to Greece, I decided to document my trip for family and friends who want to know “a little more” about my adventure. Numerous visits to ancient sites, many cans and bottles of Mythos beer, great people, lots of laughs, and 496 photographs later, here’s a taste of my trip to Greece and the second of three blogs. With the tour of the Peloponnesus completed, we crossed the Porto Rio Bridge and entered central Greece on our way north to Thessaloniki. After another early start we were on our way to one of my most anticipated sites of the trip, Delphi. I promised myself that, if anything, I would go straight to the Delphi Museum to see one sculpture in particular about which I had written a fifteen to ... read more

Numerous visits to ancient sites, many cans and bottles of Mythos beer, great people, lots of laughs, and 496 photographs later, here’s a taste of my trip to Greece and the first of three blogs. Earlier this year, I felt a case of the travel bug and began to think of places around the world I would like to visit. Destinations such as Prague, Australia, New Zealand, the Caribbean, and Ireland all crossed my mind, but one country stood out among the others - Greece. Having completed my undergraduate degree with a major in Classical Civilization and having already visited Italy, I thought this was the logical ... read more

Sifnos Europe » Greece By Di551June 27th 2007 Sifnos: I had read so much on this island and was so looking forward to this one out of all the islands. But just as we arrived, we faced 43 degree plus heat. We stayed nine nights at Simeon rooms right on the Kamares Harbour. We had great views of all the port activity. I just love watching the big speed jets dock and hundreds of people disembark along with cars, semi trailers etc.. On any day, there are up to 6 large ferrys arriving. Sifnos has many great walking treks, but unfortunately, unless we left at 4am in the morning it was not possible. We found a great little cave with crystal clear water not far from our room and spent most on our day there hiding in the ... read more

Hey everyone. So the heat wave continues. Yesterday we stoppeed working at 1:30 instead of 2:30 because the temperature was up to 45 in the shade. Yep it's brutally hot here. But we're all being careful, drinking lots, we have sun shades over our trenches and the sun screen is always out. Today we were working and again it was very hot, but not as hot. Probably only 39... Anyways after karpouzie (watermelon break) Aleydis our boss came up to me and told me to go put on a shirt because I have such fair skin and red hair. aparently she's told all the red heads/ ginger kids to do that. (Surprisingly there are 6 of us here, we're taking over!) I was angry. I'm probably one of the few people who haven't had a heat ... read more

Hello!!! So at the moment we are in a heat wave in Greece. Yikes! It has been well over 40 degrees for the last week or more. And it is rediculously hot. Athens was almost unberable. We were lucky though that our hotel had AC, except it just made stepping out into the heat that much worse. On sunday in athens we got up and headed our at 8:30 for the acropolis. So off we went, hiked up the huge hill only to find out that the guards were striking. and we heard that it was the first time in 20 years. We never got to see the acropolis..so sad. We did climb to the aerogopolis (sorry for spelling) but it's the big rock just below the acropolis where in ancient times old senate members would ... read more
