Hello again, it looks like i'm only going to be able to update this on weekends when we go into larger cities because the internet access we have in tragana is very slow and gets expensive....so keep looking out for weekend updates! So week two has gone by rediculously fast. Monday we opened up the trenches, took off the tarps and began to sweep up the site and get it ready for begining of season photographs. So lots of sweeping with tiny brooms....pretty mindless. Our field dierctor had also been discussing with one of the land owners on the island if we could open up a few older trenches on her land. We finally got permissions for that and began more back fill removal in the "olive grove". We are digging in two spots on the ... read more

Hello everyone! Firstly, thank you for all your comments, it is so nice to hear from you guys. I hope everyone is having a great summer so far. Greece is amazingly beautiful and so far most of the people here seem very cool and like it will be a great summer. After my messy travel day to athens and then monday's adventure on the Greek bus to tragana I settled into our house that has 7 girls and one bathroom. It's a little tight but we're making it work. Three of us are living in the kitchen and there is a rumor that an 8th girl will be living with us in a few weeks, which will make it 4 in the kitchen. But it's very nice and modern which I was not expecting.... I'm living ... read more

Hey everyone, So things are looking up...I got to tragana yesterday by bus, which was a little terrifying especially not speaking any greek at all..but I got to the town and couldn't find the archaeologists...that was scary! so a very nice lady took me in, and thankfully she turned out to be our cook and den mother. She's really great! And we moved into our houses..and am staying in a sweet apartement with 7 people wiht only one bathroom. but the house is beautiful, with crazy garage doors that are automatic over our windows (such a novelty!!!).it sould be lots of fun. I'm living with the other mortuary students and our supervisor and two other senior staff. last night we went ot zoes, a local bar with really cheap beer, and we got to meet everyone ... read more

Today I slept in late. I think I am on European time now. We walked through the small town of Katakolon, Greece. It had GREAT shops. I loved the swords. I didn't get one though. :( I played ping pong with my dad and I beat him! YES! BINGO was fun, we didn't win, but we will try again. I did win a beach bag and water bottle. They called me up and then danced with me! UGH! We went to "Who Wants to be a Bizallionare" game show and to the comedy show. Tomorrow we head to Corfu, Greece. We will go out and walk through the city. Tomorrow night we will go to the the Magic Show. My dad talked to the guy and asked him to make me disappear. Seriously?!?! The weather has ... read more

Greece: Another emotional rollercoaster ride for us. We experienced many gloriously uplifting moments and more than our fair share of stoic teeth-grinding (Gareth) and throw-your-pack-down-and-chuck-a-proper-wobbly (not Gareth) frustrations. Coming as we did from Turkey, Athens was a bit of a dive. Okay, they've got the Acropolis, but if that Parthenon wasn't perched on that particular hill it certainly wouldn't be so cool. Ephesus (Turkey) kicked the butt of the Acropolis, it's just not up on a big shiny pedestal - still, it was the highlight of our Athens experience. Otherwise the city was overpriced, awfully littered and graffitied, crawling with cats and consequently reeking of Eau de Pussy Wee. Our hostel was far too heavy on stupid rules (no food, no hand washing, no chairs) and light on hooks in the grotty showers. But then ... read more

Greek Island - Naxos Instead of doing the usual Mykonos, Ios, Santorini stuff - we thought we'd escape the 18 year olds and head to two of the other islands in the Aegean. We had a long trek over from Turkey with planes and ferries etc. but it was well worth it in the end. The first thing we thought when we got here was this place is paradise. We checked into an apartment no more than 10 metres from the beach with an awesome view out to sea.The best thing about Naxos is that, although it is one of the largest islands in the Cyclades, there is no international airport there so it is yet to be spoilt by the hundreds of tourists on package holiday deals that usually ruin paradise places - bruvs with white ... read more

Monday we were in Rhodes, Tuesday Santorini and Today we're in Katakolon. The days are flying by and all running together in my mind. While in Rhodes we went on a tour called Liesurely Lindos, which consisted of a bus ride to a small village on the other side of the island called Lindos and a brief tour of a "Traditional ceramic factory". The only thing liesurely about this tour was the bus ride. Both stops were too rushed to enjoy and the mono toned tour directors put us to sleep as she droned on and on in her broken english with heavy greek accent. The panoramic views were breath taking and the food is unreal. I should meantion that we did some shopping too but from now on you should take that as a given. ... read more

Greece Very good! Was nice to step out of hotel and wander around feeling safe, no hassle shopping, green gardens and parks, warm weather which is a nice change, having little free touristy things like change of guard and tourist information boards for little extras. People are not overly friendly or Greek looking for the matter but just go about their business. They are good at jumping queues if you don’t be very assertive. Countryside is beautiful! Olive trees everywhere, beautiful winding country roads on flats and hillsides. Athens - awesome. Saw change of Evzones at Parliament House which also has tomb of unknown soldier. Change of guard was 10 times better than Buckingham Palace. Drill was better and just way different with legs swinging everywhere, goose step marching and fists eye socket height. Then ... read more

Spent the day in Greece today. Caught a ferry from Kusadasi to a Greek Island called Samos. Took about an hour and a half and we were in Greece. Greece border security is great. One guy smoking a cigarette while stamping your passport. Not much to do in Samos. Went to the museum, visited the old part of the city and had a great souvlaki. Good to say we have been in Greece though. Best bit of the day was the starbucks coffee before we got on the ferry. 1st coffee in a while. ... read more
