We are in Santorini! We got here on Wednesday afternoon and it was raining, so that wasn’t good, but it cleared up yesterday. This island is absolutely amazing! It is so gorgeous. It’s exactly how the pictures show, but even better. Even though it was raining, it was still really great to be here. Our hotel is just a little ways outside of the capital of Fira. There’s a nice little walking path that leads right into downtown and all along the walkway there is a gorgeous view of the caldera. It’s amazing! As soon as we got to our hotel I did my site report on Santorini. In my presentation I was talking a lot about how the shape of the island has changed and when the different islands were formed during various volcanic eruptions. ... read more

Well it’s been a while since I wrote last because our internet has been really spotty. We didn’t have it in Tinos, and now in Mykonos we have to pay for it. On Thursday we left Crete and got on an overnight ferry to Pireaus (Athen’s port). That ferry was really rocky because it was so windy. At least we were sleeping for most of it, so it wasn’t that bad then. We arrived in Pireaus around 6am and then proceeded to get on another ferry for Tinos. The ferry to Tinos was only four hours or so, so it wasn’t too bad. It was really wavy though, so it was kinda hard to do anything. We got to Tinos around noon and went to our hotel. The hotel was right on the water-front, which was ... read more

When I arrived in Athens it was cold and rainy, but I was so happy to see my parents! We spent the day walking around a bit and ended up at this restaurant later that evening with live Greek music. When we first arrived we thought the music wasn't so great, but this woman ended up singing and she was amazing! Everyone in the restaurant was singing and clapping, I felt like I was in My Big Fat Greek Wedding. My parents were really jet legged so it was hard to adjust to sleeping with them. They would wake up at 4 in the morning and then want to take a nap in the evening. I ended up getting adjusted to their sleeping habits and had a hard time readjusting when I got back to Milan. ... read more

We had to get up around 4:30am to get our ferry. We wanted to get there early just in case... well I don't know just in case what. We just wanted to get to Santorini. However, Holly is a bit of an amateur traveler, so we got there 2 1/2 hours early... WWAAYYY too early. Anyway, we found 5 taxis sitting together hanging out and talking, and the drivers were very friendly for 5am. I was just waiting for my good impression of the Greek people to be ruined, but it really never did. I will say one thing, they are not the best smelling people. Anyway, we got on the ferry which really was like a little hotel. I am used to the ferry that goes from NC to the outerbanks, but this one had ... read more

It was all about relaxing on the Islands for us as our trip was winding down and that’s exactly what we did. It is quite hard to keep busy on the Islands this time of year anyway with it the low season and all well it was more like the dead season as there was know one around at all so we had whole beaches for ourselves which was fine by us. The weather was not as warm as it could be but we were still getting around in shorts and did some swimming in the crystal clear waters still so was very nice. Our first Island we went to was called Syros and were there for three nights. When we arrived of our ferry we were greeted by a few hotel owners trying to get ... read more

As we last left you, we were trying to figure out which of us would drive the island's cliffs while severely impaired. Geri won the reflex contest and I got into the passenger seat with a bump on my head. I don't know why she had to use a brick for the reflex test....anyway, we drove down the Western coast of Rhodes along the ocean on a cliffside drive. We stopped at an ancient ruin city, and unlike anywhere else we have ever seen, were allowed to climb all over it. So we went into a Hellenistic era house, walked down the Hellenistic main street and put our hands all over anything old. We then kept driving to get to a winery that I wanted to tour, but much like everything else here off season, the ... read more

We arrived safely and I believe are known across the island already due to "someone's" antics. :) Geri's luggage was ransacked by the baggage handlers and she got her Ipod dock stolen. Curiously, they also stole my Splenda. We have narrowed our manhunt down to a baggage handler who likes music and is on a diet. Luckily Geri has travel insurance that should cover it. We learned from the local youth that the bars do not begin to have anything going on until midnight, and people usually go out until 6am, at which time they get ready for work. The bars are only good on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and maybe Sunday, but NOT Monday. We did manage to find some trouble yesterday despite it being Monday. We walked around old town Rhodes, which is ... read more

Santorini. In November wind and rain threaten take over as weather supream and today, although there were moments of swimming-in-the-sea-warm, now it is raining and pretty windy out. It is still beautiful, though. stark. the land is chisled and coarse and the sea is deap blue and tough. Dogs and cats wander the empty streets built on tourism. Today, Julia and I took a bus down to the black beaches and were followed by packs of dogs. they fought, but two still remained loyal to us until we boarded the bus back to our hostel. 5:47 and it is dark and rainy out... but I am in greece. Greece. ... read more
