I know most of you have been anxious for me to blog, so I thank you for your patience! When all you can think of is “Is the wind up?” and “Hmmm, what size kite do I need today?” its honestly hard to find the time to sit with your computer and relax. And, what a wonderful thing it is to have this problem. Lucky for all of you, 9 days of travel in Greece could give you a long novel of a blog and tons of pix... we’ll see. Let’s start from the beginning. I arrived in Athens on the 3rd of June with a lovely case of jetlag and entirely too much luggage for one person to carry. When I got off the plane unfortunately all of the buses and metro trains to the ... read more

It’s now Friday afternoon around 3:30 and I’m just about to get ready to head to a nearby town for sushi! I know some of you are thinking sushi in Greece?! But I’ve read a lot of reviews about this place, and it’s supposed to be amazing, and I’ve kind of been craving sushi this whole trip but haven’t let myself indulge because I knew I’d be having it here. Anyway, before I head out for sushi I’ll tell you about my last couple of days. Yesterday, for some crazy reason I was awake at 6:30am! So I decided it would be a good time to go out an snap some photos, and it was, there was no one around. I basically had Oia to myself, besides the store owners getting ready for the day. I ... read more

After a sad farewell to Fethiye and all the great people I had met there, I hopped on a fast ferry (a hydrofoil, where the boat floats up out of the water on account of a wing in the water below it) to the Greek island of Rhodes. As the ferry pulled into the harbour, the first thing you see are some very imposing medieval walls guarding an old Greek town. I wandered the city for nearly an hour with my big backpack on in 30 degree heat (darn my stubbornness for not taking taxis) and finally found my hostel, which had a pool that I promptly cooled off in. I took some time this day to wander aimlessly through the old walled town taking lots of photos and indulged in some wonderful bacon-wrapped souvlaki (my ... read more

If there is one, I think I’ve found it! After spending less than 24 hours in Athens, Greece I hopped on a short 45 minute flight to Santorini, Greece…the most amazing place I’ve ever been to. It’s absolutely breathtaking. The sun is always shining, bright and hot, the people are amazingly friendly and the food is fantastic! I think I’ve found my new favorite place to be, and I’ll definitely be coming back here again, soon. Once I arrived I had a car waiting for me at the airport to take me to my hotel, or villa. It was about a 30 minute drive from the airport on narrow, winding roads but with incredible views the whole way. I had a “bell hop” waiting for me as soon as the car arrived and he took my ... read more

When you fly over the island of Santorini, it looks like a field of pepper sprinkled with salt on the highest and lowest points. The iconic white cities of Fira and Oia are the largest, with other beach-hugging cities spanning quite a size also. If you fly in on the low side and expect the island to be relatively flat considering what you’ve just seen. If you’re lucky enough to stay up on the caldera, it isn’t until your bus winds its way up to the hotel that you realize the opposite side is literally perched on top of huge cliffs that look out over the neighboring islands. It is only once we walk into the hotel and look out their reception window that we see this view. It is gorgeous and vast. Not to mention ... read more

Tried Greek, but this site doesn't understand! - (not a smart ploy in Turkey) "Πόρτες της Σαντορίνης" is here to follow as the Dveře of Staré Město Praha was such a 'door stopper!' I didn't go as crazy as I did in Prague, simply because the effort required to get to some of these doors is a lot more difficult than wandering down a laneway or back alley They are merely doors, but their beauty is individual! Each to their own...I'm sure we would like a few as our own entrances - who knows..? as there a few 'vacant' properties still available on Santorini (post 1956 earthquake) 'iyi geceler' for now..."goodnight friends"... read more

Many apologies for posting 3 blogs at once today (Mykonos, Kusadasi and Athens), but internet service is inconsistent by satellite... Today is a really easy day for us. Just wandering around Mykonos. Nice day but might rain. We got off the ship at about 9, took a shuttle into town and just started walking along the shore. The vendors were out with wonderful looking produce, artichokes, parsley, tomatoes, cucumbers, lots and lots of fresh vegetables. The fish mongers were selling their fresh fish which can be smelled for a long way off. Everyone is very nice and we're looking forward to a lovely Greek lunch at a taverna on the beachfront. This is the BEST internet cafe so far!! 1 Euro for 15 minutes and just 4 Euros for an hour, hard to beat ;-) Well, ... read more

Rodos Leaving the lovely Santorini behind, we made our way to Rhodes via overnight ferry. The ferry ride itself was easy... a cabin with quite comfy beds, we checked in at about 12.30am and woke up in Rhodes around 8.30am. Rhodes was always a means of getting where we needed due to the ferry connection to Turkey so there were no great expectations and we had managed to book an extraordinarily cheap hotel at approx $A54! My take on Rhodes at first glance was that it is the 'Gold Coast' of Greece. Tons of hotels, bars, restaurants and shops... Upon second and third glance this impression remained. Nevertheless the wonderful and typical Greek hospitality remained. We spent our time checking out the town and catching up on some needed washing! Old town Rhodes is actually quite ... read more

Sunny Santorini Pictures alone cannot do this place justice....I tried! A few samples below but the memory cards got a hammering once again! We are so lucky to have spent time on this beautiful island in such a wonderful hotel. Cave Houses Oia is run by a lovely family who really look after you, they certainly contributed to our stay. Oia is on the north of the island and does not yet quite have the amount of people as the main town of Fira. In fact there are no bars (they are not allowed to set up here) in Oia therefore you can imagine it gets very peaceful at night and attracts people looking for this peace. We had 3 lovely days here, unfortunately the wind was fiesty on the first 1.5 days though this didn't ... read more

İstanköy (Kos) Bodrum Yarımadası'nın karşısında, Anadolu'... read more
