September 30, 2009 Judy and I awoke to the sun rising over Fira, the largest city on Santorini. No time for a sit down breakfast, we opted instead for the buffet, which was fine. The ship does not dock in Santorini but rather tenders passengers over by smaller boats. Of course the Princess paid tour guests get to go first but we didn't have to wait long for our boat to take us ashore. Since the crowds at the dock were light we took the cable car to the top in under 5 minutes. The port at Santorini is some 600 feet or so below the city on the cliff. One has the option of cable car, donkey or walking to reach the top and the same choices for the way back down but more on ... read more

Well this was by far the funnest island of our trip... Arriving in Ios it was straight into the pool for Andy Pandy and as for me I hit up a deck chair for some more well deserved sunbaking... Strawberry daquiries all round and a yummy chicken risotto got us through til dinner time... It was the night before my birthday and I was so excited... so was everybody else. Andy worried that I was missing my muma too much on my birthday organised a girl patrol to save the day. Laura (hairdresser from Perth) was amazing and chopped all my hair off and styled it for me yay!! This is what every girl wants on her birthday.... Second thing I wanted... im sure you can all guess... a new dress.... problem = no dress shops ... read more

Well this Island was just magical... The postcards don't do it justice at all. Dinner was served on the side of a cliff top overlooking the Caldera on the first night. It was breathtakingly beautiful, unexplainable... The food was superb and the 1 liter Rose we drunk in an hour was also fantastic...hehe. It was off to the highlander where we danced the night away, splurging on cocktails (2 for 7euro) and shooting bazzilions of shots... It was then up on the bar for some go go dancing led by the infamous timmy tim tam... With heaps of old tunes belted out it was an awesome night had by all... Up early the next morning Andy Pandy and I set sail on an old pirate ship to check out the volcano and hot springs... This after ... read more

Paros is a beautiful small fishing island. It has quaint cobbled streets that can be explored in a just a few hours. On arrival we were greeted by a lovel host at Pension Demitrios. We stayed in a lovely Pension (which is like a cross between a hostel, B&B and a small hotel...... After another guided tour of the island it was out to Dinner where Jen ate Tims choice of the fresh fish of the day which was served whole with eyeballs and all ahhhh! A quick word about Timmy boy... He is our guide-friend on this tour and he is the most amazing and nicest mate ever! And he is hilarious... watch this space for pictures... he also has an obsession with body parts hehe... Arriving in the port a sea of white greeted us upon its shore with all the houses picture perfect. Staying at Paradise Beach Camping ground it was straight to the beach for some well deserved sun baking and swimming. First thing noted.... naked penis flapping in the wind... second thing noted nudie rudies running everywhere... third... they were all old.... hehe.... A few happy snaps later it was time to get ready for a big night out. Sunset photos and a quick tour later it was time for food. How exciting! Our first greek restaurant proved to be amazing. For more of my photos, or to buy my book, please visit www.nickkembel.com Which words do I use to summarize one of the most beautiful places I have ever been? I have wanted to go to Greece for as long as I can remember, and Santorini was always the part I wanted to visit the most. The tiny C shaped island is composed of the remains of an enormous volcanic eruption some 3600 years ago that is thought to have contributed to the downfall of the ancient Minoan civilization by sending an enormous tsunami to neighboring Crete. In the center of the C sits a small black island which is actually the volcano's caldera, and to this day it is still active and produces warm water springs which spill into the ocean and tourists pile ... read more

If there is one thing that you learn when you are traveling by yourself is how to entertain yourself. Not only do you have to be prepared to rely on yourself to deal with all the difficulties that arise, to make all the necessary decisions, but you have to be in your own company all the time. I know everyone has that problem, but it takes on new dimensions when you are traveling alone. Just like how traveling with a friend can be trying if you don’t get along all the time. An eight hour ferry ride or a two hour bus ride can be torturous if you don’t know how to entertain yourself. Although it is rare, when you are traveling you could conceivably go a week without having a conversation in your native language. ... read more

A weekend on a Greek Island “Ok, so we’re stuck in the quicksand. What do we do now? Why did I even listen to you??” I was completely pissed off with M. An hour ago we took the dust road leading to the sandy beach of Prasonisi. We followed the 4WDs' tracks passed there before us. We sat on the beach watching the kite surfers playing some nice tricks in the windy spot, where the Aegean meets the Mediterranean sea. When we had enough, we started heading back inland, but this time tried a shortcut through a more virgin ground. It took us less than a minute to sink in it with our little car. Fortunately, it didn't take long before our savior has showed up in the form of a chubby Greek guy who had ... read more
