Biz... read more

Friday 15th April 2011 Up and off to Ancona to catch the ferry ( 2 days late ) to Igoumenitsa, Northern Greece. Arrived in plenty of time and collected tickets however there were no cabins available and it looks at this stage as though we are going to spend an uncomfortable night in airline style seats. Our departure is delayed due to passengers being diverted from Venice where their sailing has been cancelled. As a result the ship is full to bursting and hope of a cabin diminishes. Max ( god bless ) waits patiently in reception for 2 hours as cabins are allocated to passengers that have been diverted from Venice. Finally the only spare cabin available is offered to us – an outside junior suite sleeping 3 – we take it, the boys can ... read more

So today we left the Dovitel Hotel, and took a tour of the Perama Caves. I would write about it, because it was very beautiful, but the whole day was overshadowed by a very bad incident. Something that has altered my entire outlook of my time spent here, something that has hurt me deeply. We have been dealing with dirty looks from old men, and sleazy looks from young men. We have had rude people, and people who have made it clear they only deal with us so they can have our money. I was overlooking that, ignoring it for the most part, because there is a cultural difference, and two lone women, traveling so far is probably so far from the relm of life for them, it becomes a bit scary. Also because we have ... read more

Today we drove to Ioannia (YAH-nen-nah), a 4.5 hour drive. Around noon we stopped in a little town, don't even know the name. Had some coffee, took a walk. Then we drove on, oh-ing and ah-ing over the pretty cliffs... We stopped in a little village (Nea Moussiotitsa, Agios Dimitrios) while still in the mountains, it was a little place right off the road. The BEST coffee I have had in... forever... and this yummy dish called Tyropita me filo kroustas (τυρóπιτα). Basically Cheese Pie with phylo crust. It was so good. Talking to the guy who seated/served us, his mom made it. And that, two coffees and two espressos, less than 10 euros. Nice! So now we are at Dovitel in Perama. The hotel is very pretty, a bit warm though. I tried to get ... read more

Geo: 39.5046, 20.2599Great day arrived early and booked the ferry, streamlined process and bugger me if it cost less than the Wadi Halfa ferry.Only one concern was our booking showed we had an allocated seat and the chap assured us we would get a cabin at checkin.... Well we were not going to hold our breath..Okay now picture this, because we are in the EU there is no passport control or immigration.. great.. the ferry is due to arrive at 11:00pm and depart 12:00 midnight, so we parked the car at dock number 11 with a whole pile of trucks and vehicles... it is dark with a thunderstorm all around and it is very very cold. so Lisa and i fell asleep in the Shorty while it was running with the heaters on flat out.. It ... read more

Geo: 39.6675, 20.8508We had a massive day, 600km's on the road heading towards the port town that i cannot spell let alone pronounce (something like Ingomeniesia).55km short of our goal we pulled into Ioannina and found a nice hotel. It is the flashiest place we have stayed in, everything is clean, no bugs, even a bath robe. Well so it should for $80 EUR.Off to Italy tomorrow via the ferry then off to see my Aunty Olga, should be fun.... read more

6th July and a well deserved week to the beautiful Village of Sivota in Mainland Greece. Kat myself and Kats mum ( mother in law to be ) took a flight to the island of corfu where we then took a ferry to Igoumenitsa and then a short taxi drive to Sivota. Sivota was mainly a small fishing village but over the years has increased in popularity with the sailing community and bears host to a large array of yachts and motorboats. We stayed in the Blue Coast apartments which looked directly over the harbour and is run by Angie and Mert. The food there is great so even if you didnt stay there its well worth a visit. After our 2 days of doing nothing but relaxing and laying on the beach we hired a ... read more

i leave the ship into the portbuilding. that's new, because once upon the boats used to dock on the towns promenade. 'round the port there's barbed-nato-wire everywhere, and i remember the drunk truckdriver from frankfurt from yesterday night, who told me that in patras you cannot park your truck anymore, 'cause all the time these poor refugees cut open the cover of your trailer to smuggle themselves to italy. in the port i get myself a phonecard first & some postcards to write for boring afternoons on the highway. the place is brandnew and modern, and open all nite. i take a quick call to cold niedersachsen, and only 3 cents later i know my direction is right. then i phone to the family and with the leftover units to a friend who's postcode i'm missing ... read more
