Well to see Greece approach put a huge smile on Karl's face, Greece is his love, having spent so much time here. We were a woken by a knock on the door at seven, as the boat was to dock at eight. We changed, a couple of chocolate croissants coiffed down in the cabin and Karl left for the car loaded up with our stuff. As the boat docked the rest of us watched through our port hole and then eventually went to meet Karl by the car or so we thought. But oh no, “No woman and children here, go there”, as we were herded in a language no one understood to be with the other woman, children and old people, a thought …… and becoming even more melodramatic Onita looked around to stand next ... read more

Last night we watched the football. It was very exciting. We got a reasonable meal considering we were about the only tourists in town. Their high season is April, August and winter sports months. We have arrived in Igoumenitsa after a largely uneventful ride. The first part was pretty, the completion of the trip on one of the most scenic roads I have ever come across. Then it got a bit more dull, then we picked up the motorway from Ioannina. It is partially built so every now and then it stops and becomes a very narrow winding mountain road. Trucks and buses are not allowed on the route due to the narrowness and steepness of the missing parts which was a blessing, the idiot overtaking from the other direction head on straight at me was ... read more

Actually in Konitsa and have asked for it to be added to the database. A whole load of fantastic scenery today. After a quick blast up the Via Egnatia, amazing in an engineering sense, tunnels, bridges, up into mountains, we took the old highway (E90) from Siatista to Konitsa. This road is fantastic, narrow in places, mountain passes, bends, hairpins, wild scenery, eagles, rivers, and almost n traffic. We stopped and took some photos on the way, which will probably not do justice to the scenery, but never mind. I was able to drift along for 150KM of sheer fun. Ashley was driving so I got to see more of the scenery and the wildlife, like the eagle who flew up beside me, giving me good front and rear views as he caught into the air ... read more

Location is inaccurate we are somewhere in the Adriatic. On a ferry. Now on a ferry from Ancona to Patras. I'll leave Hilary to comment on some bits like getting on-line and general ferry stuff. Getting the tickets was, as expected, no problem. The ferry eventually arrived, but as said this is for Hilary to comment upon. I did not get to do much riding the Harley today, from the hotel to the ferry terminal. Then onto the ferry. It was raining a bit, the steel ferry ramps were slippery, then they wanted me to take the Harley up to the upper deck. Scary stuff. All sorted though not exactly a fun experience. Over to Hilary I find it a lot easier to do nothing on the ferry because there is manifestly nothing to do. I ... read more

Well, it’s been a while. It's not that there hasn't been anything to write about, it’s more like I've been suffering from the crushing weight of too much to tell. Yes, I am a procrastinator, but hopefully this entry will make up for my lack of communication. A couple free weeks, a backpack, a bus schedule, and a sister. What can you do with this combination? Well, let me tell you the weeks will be too short, the backpack too heavy, the bus schedule wrong, and the sister...well sisters are sisters, yet it really will be amazing! (Especially if you throw into the mix a foreign land and language). Well, this year I had all the ingredients ready for an amazing experience, my sister was coming to visit me for my Easter break, and together we ... read more

Since I last wrote on the blog several days ago I've been really busy, travelling in Greece, climbing ancient monuments, reading fat books and partying. All shall be accounted for in the following blogs. Ioannina I crossed the border to Greece on the 29th of July. It was far more easy than expected. An hour later I stood at the bus-station in Ioannina where I found myself baking in the sun with my exstremely heavy bagpack. I think the reason it was so easy for me was my very handy EU passport. All my fellow travellers from the bus had to wait in the long line for non-EU citizens. I had no idea for accomondation that night. So I crisscrossed the city in search of three things; a hotel, an internet connection and Harry Potter. First ... read more
