Hi Everyone. It is 9:36p here and we are getting ready to settle in for the night. We spent the day in Athens today and it was a really nice city. We went on an guided tour since we have never been here before. First we went to the Parthenon but as soon as we got there it started to rain pretty hard and I refused to walk in the rain so Mom and I stayed in the bus and Brittany and Dad walked up to see it. I told Mom she shouldn't worry about not seeing the Parthenon because she can see it in the movie Hurcules. We also saw the original Olympic stadium built in 1886 and the new one as well from the last Olympic games. There were a lot of stadiums built ... read more

After an incredible trip and touring of Italy, we have now begun our JOURNEY into ancient Greece. Our overnight aboard the Speed Boat was really a mini-cruise ship, with all the amenieties. We all slept well, rocked by the mild Med. sea. Today, we arrived in Athens after docking in Patras. A several hour bus ride later and we made it to the heart of Athens. Which, for the most part, looks like any major, big city (including a bit of trash and pollution). Perhaps a small difference, is the Acropolis in the background! Looks incredible from here! Can't wait to tour it! Tommorow we will have some free time and in the afternoon we begin a city tour. Our final leg of our trip..... We'll all be home in just a few days. Look forward ... read more

We arrived in Athens, Greece just an hour ago - this is a very busy city. But first - let me tell you about yesterday. We had spent the previous night in Minori, on the Amalfi coast, and yesterday got on the busfor the ride to Pompeii. At Pompeii, we met our local guide, Francesco, who took us on an hour and a half tour of the ruins, which have been pretty thoroughly excavated. Francesco showed us the 2000 year old Roman-type forum, the baths, the shops on the main road where chariots passed down the streets, and some of the houses where the wealthy of Pompeii lived, which had beautiful frescos and tile floors. We also some some plastor casts of two of the people who had died in the Vesuvious erruption of 79 AD ... read more

The weather wasnt the best this day. It was spitting in the morning. Set off out the hostel at 11 ... would have stayed in bed longer but they kick you out. started off by heading to the stadium they used for the archary in the olympics which i walked past the previous day but couldnt see cos i had forgot my sunglasses. was a cool place. i then got caught out in the rain so dashed off into some trees for cover which turned out to be a maze of a park with a zoo in the middle with ducks and an emu and peacoks which was a good change from old ruins. after grabbing something to eat and getting lost again i went up to the acropolis which seemed far emptier than yesturday when ... read more

Day 1 The flight from london was good and no delays or anything like that. I got dropped off by brother at the airport and watched a bit of This Moring in the departure lounge before going to board. During boarding the flight seemed quite full and people were queing in two ways. One american couple were in one que and the other was shorter so the husband went to the shorter one while the wife stayed in the longer one and the words 'If you get there before me save me a seat'. Im pretty damn sure they were being serious about this too but i always thought that you et reserved seats on planes??? Anyhoo I arrived in athens to sunshine and got the metro and found the hotel quite easy. I had a ... read more

Take a guided tour of the Acropolis and Parthenon and see the Temple of Zeus. Then time for some last minute shopping before we head to Patras to board our cruise boat for the 2 nights and full day across the Adriatic to Italy. It's weird staying in hotels cause they like to give us wake up calls. Got up at 7 and headed down for breakfast, which was the same as last time we were here - but not as much nutella. Took us ages to get to the Acropolis, as heaps of the streets were closed off for labour day - may day was in the middle of greek easter, so they moved it until today, so the shops and stuff are closed too. Our tour guide got on at the hotel with ... read more

We catch the midday ferry back to Athens. Slept in till 8 this morning, was exhausted from yesterday. Went for a last walk on the beach, and had what's probably our last great breakfast. It was so nice to sit out in the warm sunshine having breakfast. We were all planning on laying by the pool until we had to catch the shuttle at 12.30 to the port, but we found out at 10.45 that we were supposed to check out by 11, so there was a mad rush for showers and last minute packing. We then had to get all our cards sorted out and our accounts paid up, and wait around the pool with our luggage for the shuttle. We caught the ferry from the new port, which is in town so we ... read more

White-washed houses, cobbled streets, windmills, exquisite boutiques, sun-soaked beaches (some are perfect for an all-over tan), Mykonos has got the lot! At night choose from typical tavernas to sophisticated restaurants, from bars playing classical music to hard rock, from Greek dancing to outrageous floor shows - there's no place like Mykonos! Slept in till 9 this morning, was such a luxury. Had a buffet breakfast to die for - omlettes, pizza, quiche, nutella croissants, cereal, fruit, donuts, and even better yoghurt than in Corfu. Sat by the pool for a while, then was supposed to go sea kayaking but there were too many people so will go this afternoon. Julia and I sunbaked on the beach for a while, then came back and joined the others by the pool. Finally got through to home on ... read more

Ferry across to Mykonos and look forward to a teriffic 3 day break on one of the most picturesque Greek islands. Had wake up calls at 5am so we'd make our ferry this morning. The hotel breakfast was really good, cereal, fruit, the obligatory cheese, ham and bread, and there was tea cake and a whole cake mixing bowl full of nutella ! Drove to the port and boarded the ferry as foot passangers, while Marty took the coach to the parking lot. We had to sit in the smoking section, as that's pretty much all there was. 'Con ferry' the trip was aptly named by Amanda, as there were convicts on the boat. We saw them handcuffed together and travelling with guards. Played shithead with Julia, Melissa and Nat L-Z to pass some time, ... read more
