Rothenburg ob der Tauber Europe » Germany » Rothenburg Ob Der Tauber By kes ohioMay 19th 2007Frankfurt to Rothenburg ob der Tauber We drove from Frankfurt to Rothenburg ob der Tauber, a small walled city that has maintained its Medieval style. The roads were tiny, cobbled, and winding, and the navigation system was not very helpful once we got into the Altstadt (Old town). We drove around in circles for quite a while navigating through spaces that looked like a car would not fit through! But we eventually found our hotel - the Goldener Greifen. We stayed in Rothenburg one night. I think that was plenty. There are a... read more

Our next stop was Munich, Germany. The train ride was not as beautiful as the one to Salzburg but at least it was shorter. Munich is a very happening place filled with shopping and good food. Our first stop lead us to the largest church in Bavaria, Frauenkirche. The Gothic style cathedral has two towers reaching 325 feet high. Hike up the south tower to get a spectacular view of the city. When you first enter the cathedral look down at the Devil’s Footstep. The footprint with a small hooked tail at the heel is legend to be where the devil once stood when the church was first built. The devil was making fun of the windowless church that he thought he stood in. But he was tricked, from where he stood he could see no ... read more

Wow so much has happened since I have had internet, so here's a summary... Day 7: We started out that morning going to Notre Dame. It was a long wait to get it to climb the 422 stairs to the top, but it was totally worth the wait! We got to walk right up next to the Gargoyles and see a perfect view of the island the church is on below. From there we went to the Pantheon and took a look around, but decided not to pay to go inside. Instead we decided to go check out the movie theater on the Champs Elysee. The thing playing at the time was Spiderman 3. We thought it'd be interesting even if it was in French, but it turned out to be completely in English. So that ... read more

UntitledIn May of 2007 I took a trip through Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. T is in Germany for the summer, so I went out to visit on a 10-day trip. I flew into Frankfurt, Germany, and T met me there. We rented a car and set out on our trip. The car had a navigation system with a female voice, so we named her Clara. ... read more

so here is the latest entry from the two tall travelling...very good looking might i add..babes. Yesterday we went to Hahn-Munden. A medieval town about 30 km north of Kassel. We had a choice, ride a bike or take the train....Sarah and I opted to take the train...wait no...that would be somewhat of an easy route...we rode bikes the whole way....Now for those of you who don't ride bikes very often can sympathise with me...but it this way..it was very hard to sit down properly oooh say for about 1 1/2 days so far and still counting. In german to say my bum hurts it's "Mein Po-po tut mir weh!"...not fun...well actually that is a HUGE lie because to be honest the scenery was wonderful and it felt good to bike that far. Can't say that ... read more

OK, I admit it. I was getting a little nervous. After I hadn't heard from our home exchange partner in over a month, a short note arrived last Saturday with the question what day we would arrive. Relief! That was the kind of news I had been waiting for. Our email correspondence had been sporadic since we had both agreed to a non-simultaneous home exchange a few months ago; however, a few important details of our swap puzzle were still missing. Like exchanging addresses and keys! I mailed back right away, asking for these details. No answer. I knew our partner was very heavily engaged at work and he was about to head out on an overseas business trip. Also, he had never done a home exchange before. In all of my correspondence with him, I ... read more

Hello all! in case you're wondering what the title means it just asks "How are you?" (in the plural that is). So how is everyone? Sarah and I are doing just fine. I'm a little jealous of Sarah as she has a computer in her room with internet access anytime...alas i must use the computers at school to do all my e-mails...occasionally i can use the computer at home but it belongs to the son so i feel a little awkward asking to sit in his room and check my e-mails...for now the school will do. So what have we been up to since we have arrived? Well we did a tour of the city..in German...which was a little hard to follow what with the wind and the traffic in some areas..oh well...it's a nice town ... read more

At 1pm we had an optional excursion to POTSDAM to see SANSSOUCI PALACE and CECILIENHOF PALACE. And see was what we did in the front and back of Sanssouci. What a damn disappointment. Excuse my English. Evidently when our pamphlets stated SEE it must mean from the outside and VISIT must mean an inside tour. We had a nice guide but we thought we were to go inside but we only walked around the front and back of the grounds. Southwest of Berlin, Prussian kings lived here and so there are a few palaces in this area. We SAW Sanssouci, also known as Schloss Sanssouci first which is a long, one story building and yellow in color. Being built in the 1740's, it was the summer home of Frederick the Great, the King of Prussia. We ... read more
