I really loved Germany! I will have to plan my own trip later and come back just to travel around Germany! We arrived in Heidelberg and walked around for a few minutes and then we hiked up to the hilltop schloss (this big, cool looking castle). It was neat. We only had about an hour, and then we walked back down to the city and crossed over the river to hike up philosophers trail. That was not that much fun. Shan got something to drink and I went into the gift shops and bought myself a book and a mug about Heidleberg. Then it was one night in a hotel, away from all food and everything and Shan and I ended up eating dinner with Will and Nick at a restaurant that oddly was trying ... read more

We went to Berlin for the 2nd May Bank Holiday weekend (26May-28May). We went to Berlin with Easyjet; it was about £120 per person (a little pricey due to peak period) and the flight time is a little inconvenience because it departed at 6.30am, and check-in time is from 4.30am so we took the last train from London Bridge to Luton airport (about 1hour). We got there by 1.30am and slept on the benches for few hours. There are three airports in Berlin, which are Schoenefled, Tegel and Tempelhof. We went to Berlin Schoenefled with Easyjet and this is the furthest airport from town centre and to the hotel - Grand Hotel Esplanade, it took us about 1 hour. The closest airport is Berlin Tempelhof it would be about 20 minutes from town and 30minutes ... read more

One of the advantages of a non-simultaneous home exchange is the fact that your place needn't be cleaned to perfection before leaving. Of course this also has a draw-back. Think of the day of your return. We are all packed up, ready to hit the road. Do you have any idea which direction we are headed? During our trip, we will try to answer your inquiries at the accustomed speed; however, depending on the Internet connections while traveling, our reply might be a bit slower than usual. We apologize for any inconvenience. ... read more

Hello everyone! So much for my grand plans of this web site carry on. I guess it helps to have a computer for ít to really work. I have been in Germany for 3 weeks now and it is great. I am staying at a fantastic location. The veiw out off my bedroon is looking straight at the alps and I can see two castles. Not to rough. The family that I am working for are the Hartungs. The old man Pieter (64) is sort of the chief of everything. I work with one of his sons Franz (29) who looks after the farm and all the forestry. The other son Pieter (34) runs the hotel. The Daughter Nina (32) is a cop in town so I can do anything I want. The Hotel has about ... read more

MunichJulie J Vanover When I arrived in Munich I thought about what I really wanted to see here- which was the Neuschwanstein Castle and the Romantic Road. Neither of which are in Munich, they are both day trips from Munich. So I explored Munich and saw the glockenspiel- which is quite a sight- and the famous beer halls and then was going to do my day excursions from Munich. So I headed out to Garmish to see Neuschwanstein Castle. A 1 1/2 hour train ride there and I found out this isn't where the castle is, the castle is 70 kilometers away. My guide book said that this was a great place to book a tour of the castle so I just assumed that this is where is was and I still don't understand why my ... read more

I can't say that the breakfast was good with runny eggs, weak orange juice and some type of unidentifiable fruit. But having it with all our new Australian friends made up for that. Our destination today would be Munich with our arrival at the German border taking all of 7 minutes. Lunchtime, we stopped at the nicest rest stop. The restroom consisted of putting 50 euro cents in a turning stall to which you then got a receipt for 50 cents off lunch. haha After using the toilet, the commode seat rotated. I had never seen that and we were all pretty amazed by it! There was a restaurant which had a selection of sandwiches and such. A cheese sandwich and cola were about 7 euros. I believe this was near Nuremberg, where we also saw ... read more

It's been a busy time for me here in Berlin. I've done and seen so much time has flown by. So what have I been up to? 1) The Language The main reason for me to relocate to Berlin was to learn German. I was lucky (or unlucky) enough to be born in an English speaking country which has it's good and bad sides. The good side is that English is pretty much the worlds most widely spoken language which generally makes travel easy. Of course, I have found that if your in, say, downtown Minsk, English is about as useful as Manchu and unless you speak Russian, your screwed. Make no mistake I don't plan on rushing out and learning Russian but I feel a little knowledge of many languages goes along way, hence the ... read more

Last but not least on my European adventure is Berlin, Germany. The group of us left Paris in a couchette and spent the night attempting to sleep. When we made it to Berlin we got to our apartment and put our stuff done. After days of hostel the apartment was pretty cool, we got the whole top floor to ourselves so its an interesting experiences. We decided to walk around Berlin so first we headed to Rosa Luxemburg and then walked to Alexanderplatz. Out of no where it seemed the weather changed from a beautiful spring day to a torrential down pour. We took shelter in a restaurant waiting for the rain to pass. After that we just walked around for a bit and what I noticed most was all the reconstuction. We were in what ... read more

In the fairytale surrounds of southern Germany, castles dotting the landscape amidst rolling hillsides of vineyards pointing towards the languidly looping Rhine, two beautiful maidens Cherida and Amy, met their kind and generous friend Dirk. A tour of the lovely town of Bingen was had, with spectacular sunset views and a scary dark tower (turm) where the tears of many a long tressed maiden could still be heard hitting the concrete floor. The trio shared a traditional German supper of bread, meat and cheese and told tales of past travels, enjoying the challenge of conversing in each others languages. Friday dawned and Dirk, the wunderbar tour guide, led the maidens through his sehr schon homeland. They explored the charming town of Bacharach, with its cobblestoned lanes and ancient houses cheerfully lopsided. They rambled over the remains ... read more
