Today we're on the move from Zurick on the ICE (highspeed train) to Frankfurt the next leg of our trip before we pick up the van. While we were waiting at the Zurich central station we found a very unusual peice of artwork ... it looked like a giant square block of bulbs on the roof that flashed different colours randomly, but on closer obsveration we discovered something very cool - there was a touch screen that projected the patterns that you touched on the screen onto the giant colour square on the ceiling - check out the images. The ICE was a really comfortable train we had window seats opposite eachother in the second class coach, although about 10 minutse from arriving we were told that we were in the right seat numbers, just ... read more

Photos Galore Europe » Germany » Frankfurt By SwestApril 2nd 2007 Hi Everyone..... Gutentag!!! Having a great time here in Frankfurt. Yesterday we went to an exhibition of Op Art (which is optical illusion art)... it was very trippy and I ended up with a headache afterwards, but it was great. Last night we went to a traditional German restaurant and ate some very traditional food. It too was great. The Apple Cider wine was good too... and very warming.. though tonight we are having beer in steins (to celebrate Emily's birthday). Today it was the Bourse stock exchange... brilliant! I will write more when I get back from the FAZ financial newspaper headquarters this afternoon, but to tired y... read more

The next morning, Mike decided not to go into work. Instead, we bummed around the apartment all morning before finalizing plans to head to one of Mike's places for my European tour - Burg Eltz. Burg Eltz is one of the oldest castles in Germany. We drove an hour to get there, and I loved watching the scenery change as we sped along the autobahn. Mike stopped at a couple of places to take photos of me in a "traditional" German town, and by another castle before we arrived at Burg Eltz. It was beautiful, exactly as a medieval castle should be. Set high atop a hill in a valley next to a mountain that we trekked down to see it. In the valley below, there is a small moat and the sun shining through the ... read more

So much for that last blog being the finale. It´s about 4:30 am in Frankfurt and I´m here at the airport. Unfortunately, my flight doesn´t leave until 11:05 am. By the grace of God I stumbled across an internet station and for one reason or another, I´m able to use it (probably because it´s 4:30 am and nobody works at this ungodly hour). What a great way to pass the time. I´ll probably catch up on my BBC.com and ESPN.com since I´ve neglected both over the past thirty days. My week at L´abri was fantastic, everything I could have hope it would be. The average day went study in the morning, work in the afternoon, and hang out in the evening. There were 30 of us students around the ages of 22 to 26 and we ... read more

today is an incredible day. Not because anything really big happened today but now I really feel like time is racing and so soon I will be on the plane travelling with highspeed towards my beloved egypt/Mid. east and my dear friends I will meet there!! I've just been scrolling through previous entries I made on this site, especially the ones I wrote before I travelled to the middle east the first time. 5 days before my departure back then I was quite anxious because I was travelling into the unknown with many discouraging me to go there at all. But now its like visiting a place again I learnt to love so this time I really really really enjoy all the preparations. When watching the german sky from my room I smile... not because it's ... read more

A Note from Strasbourg and Errands in Frankfurt French Hospitality After writing our final blog entry from Strasbourg we headed out to dinner. A lady who worked in our hotel suggested a restaurant a little off the beaten path called Le Cloud. While very close to our hotel (about a ten minute walk) it was on a side street we never would have found on our own. When we arrived at the restaurant it was pretty booked up with the exception of a long table in the middle of the room which was open to walk-ins. As it was pretty early there was no one at the table yet so we were seated one chair in from the end of the table, sitting opposite each other. As more people showed up they were seated next ... read more

The soft lights from the corners of the plane seep softly into my vision and I awake to the quiet rustlings of attendants preparing breakfast while others sit quietly letting the rest of us move about dreamland. Consumed by a dark tunnel, the sun has yet to bare its face to this side of the ocean as the pilot pushes full speed ahead to keep up with the schedule. It has been a comfortable night, my mind is still foggy but I have had time to rest enough to make sense of my surroundings, although thoughts of reading have long been given up over to the exhaustion of hopping planes and time zones. It was by pure accident I ended up in this section of the plane, a smile from an attendee on the east coast ... read more

Cheri says to me "let's go shopping", groan says I. "There's wine..." says she and I was sold. We have been told that the Christmas markets in Frankfurt are something to behold. So we went with every intention of beholding. However, really the story starts a little earlier, around about the time that we were selecting our method of arrival and subsequantly learnt a very very important lesson. We could either get there using a standard airline or using a budget airline. We're fairly poor travellers, what do you think we chose? Perhaps though it is a false saving. The problem with a budget airline is that they tend to fly out of airports which are not on the beaten track. Heck, they don't even have an unbeaten track sometimes, just a sort of parting in ... read more
