Howdy! Well here it is our penultimate blog from Munich. The first morning we whizzed around the main sites in central Munich, including the rather nice rathaus, complete with Glockenspiel and the huuuuge Frauen Kirche. After all this strenuous site seeing we decided to take advantage of the good weather and head up to the Englischer Garten which is a big outdoor beer Garden surrounded by park and forests. However on route Ben decided to throw his camera in a nearby river that we were taking pictures of. Whilst he stressed Dan and i went to see if we could find it. We did, and Dan bravely made the decision to wade in after it as we decided the memory card was probably salvagable. Anyways after all the drama we were in definite need of a ... read more

Ok, here is my first update. I left from Boston for Munich on September 22nd and today October 22nd, and I am still here in Munich. Oops, it seems like I have forgotten the “world” part of the “world trip”. I am really thinking about how I will ever leave. It is just so great here... two of the coolest, most generous, people ever, Sylvie and Vincent, are letting me stay at their place. A palace with my own room, high speed wireless internet, great people and perfect location. As soon as I got off the plane I headed into town for the first of 6 times at the Oktoberfest. I hope the pictures express how much fun it is, because my words are inadequate. It is just a lot of people having GOOD fun - ... read more

Well it was one of those weekends again where the Pats decided to head off and make the most of having Europe on our doorstep. And to make things even better we had our great friends in Munich to entertain us. Steve, Hannah, and Emily left London earlier this year and moved to Munich so this was the first time we had seen them in just over 6 months. It meant another earlier morning start on Saturday but we are use to these now and with the flight being only 90 minutes, before long we were in Germany on a beautiful crisp autumn day. Saturday was lovely just chilling out with the Hart;'s and having a big catch up. The boys being the athletic ones decided to go for a beautiful bike ride through town while ... read more

So it was in use well before WWII oficially started. We were all really glad we went because it was so informative and interesting, but it was also scary and sad at the same time. a good experience anyways. later we went to the English Gardens. it is a huge park in central munich and it is about 3x ... read more

so we travelled all day yesterday. we left amsterdam at 10am and arrived in munich at about 6pm. the train ride was kinda cool. i like that mode of travel. it was only my first time so i will probably grow tired of it, but you dont have to drive and the train travels quickly. amsterdam sucked compared to munich. amsterdam was so dirty and there wasnt a whole lot to do other than a couple of museums, the red light district and drugs. so i was glad to get to munich. we found a really nice and cheap hostel across the street from the tain station. there are 3 in a row and they all have happy hour from 6-9p so we drank a lot of beer last night. then we went for a walk ... read more

We caught an early train to Munich. After a very nice breakfast at the Hamburger Hotel. The train was great - and much to my surprise we have FIRST CLASS tickets! We could pretty much sit anywhere, and there are little TV screens on the chair backs (too bad I don't speak German)! We used the Lonely Planet book to find a Hotel very close to the station that was not too bad - although it was a shared bathroom. The first thing we did though was catching another train and bus to Dachau, very intense. It was a larger area than I had imagined, with many more barracks than I thought there would be. We left there, headed back to the hotel, and the guy at reception handed us a map with a mark saying ... read more

Pickled Fish for Breakfast Up early again (6:00am), quick shower, dress, pack, and downstairs for the complementry breakfast. And what a breakfast! All manner of cold sliced meats & cheese, a selection of cereals & juice, and (now I know that I'm in Germany) pickled herrings! Kate looked over her toast & nuttela with distain at my plate of manufactured meat, cheese, & pickled fish! When in Rome I say... Fast Train to Munich We go straight to the station and ask for the next fast (250 km/h) train to Munchen (Munich) and were told to go to platform 8 at 8:50. Change trains at Manheim. Too easy! On the train and we eventually decode the First Class/ Second Class, Smoking/Non-smoking (the Germans LOVE to smoke!). Much to Kate's excitement work out that we have 1st ... read more
