We arrived in Frankfurt pretty much on time. I was a little disappointed to see so little evidence of the Christmas season as we ran from one side of the terminal to the other. It is a huge airport and supposedly one of the best in the World so why did we have to walk down all those steps (with my sore knee) and take a bus to the terminal? I would have assumed the German flag carrier would get preferential treatment and we’d at least pull up to a jetway. After some confusion about whether we had to go through a huge immigration line, we finally figured out to get to our gate. When we made our way to the departure gate for our flight to Munich we again had to board a bus. Seems ... read more

Nurnberg is really a must see medieval city that is surrounded by a wall. With the coolest part being the Nurnberg castle on the north end of the town, from which you can get a great view of the city. As Nurnberg is where all the Nazi Rally Party Grounds were it was pretty much reduced to rubble in WWII. However, like many cities in Germany, it has been restored so well that there are very few visible differences to the town before and after the war. The town is also full of museums and because I had time to kill I went and visited a few of them because the tickets are valid for all the museums. Durer’s House was quite cool because it was a look at the way of living in his day ... read more

We have now arrived in Munich, famous for its beer halls and Oktoberfest, unfortunately its only April! The past few days in Berlin were very productive. We did a Free Tour of Berlin (which is actually not free because you are expected to tip..but the guides are so fantastic you want to anyway.) Our guide was a tiny little girl from America, with a massive voice but perhaps I repeat myself. The tour took us all around a city that has to be one of the most volatile in recent history. In many ways it seems that the end of WWII was the start of their problems rather than the end, apart from the fact of course that they were on the losing side. Like the nighbours, Prague, Berlin became a Communist city, but not all ... read more

The home of Audi, and over 30% of the town is employed by Audi. And you can tell because at least every second car here is a brand new Audi but it is also apparent that it is a rich town from the shops and houses. And to make the aero students jealous....their aerodynamics lab is brand new and they have a new BMW and Audi for their aerodynamics experiments!!! (don't ask me what model because as u all know all i take note with cars is the color and if it is sufficient to get me from a to b!) This town is also apparently representative of Bavaria in terms of the houses and the way people dress. There was heaps of men with suspenders, knee high socks and funny hats, its really cure. And ... read more

I was only there for one day as going there was more of a spur of the moment decision but I loved Munich because even though it is such a large city, the height and old architecture of all the buildings still gives it a small city feel. And because there are no real large skyscrapers it means the sun actually reaches the streets in the CBD :). The city is also really alive with people, cute cafes and of course shops. But since I have been here I have resisted the urge to go clothes shopping because of my trip theory. Basically because some destinations are so cheap to get to, for eg. London is 55 Euro return, every time I hold back from buying one pair of pants or a top, that's another country ... read more

Well, as I am writing this, we are safely off the continent, we arrived in Japan a few hours ago, but need to fill you all in on the fabulous last few days that we had in Europe. We left Lyon around midday to travel (away from France... and the French) through Switzerland, and up to my brother Warren in Bavaria, Germany. But the French had other ideas, chosing instead to stop our train in the sticks beside a pleasant mountan stream, a little less than one hour out of Lyon. From there we simply did not move for around 2 hours. Although they did not tell us what was happening, it seemed at the time as though some kind of accident had happened up track from where we were - when we passed the incident ... read more

Today was a very educational day. Emily wanted to go visit some art museums, so while she did that I decided to go on a tour of Hitler's Third Reich. It lasted for about 2 hours and was very interesting. I saw several different places where he lived, worked, attended meetings, fired gunshots, etc. I learned a ton about him and Munich. Munich is considered to be the birthplace of Nazism. It is where they began to have meetings and rise to power. The guide showed us places where Hitler, Mussolini, and Chamberlain had meetings and places. It was a weird thing to think about being in the same place that Hitler had once been. It makes it all seem a little more real. It was kind of neat to be in a place or see ... read more

hey guys. i am waiting for emily to get off the phone so i thought i would update realy quick again. the hostel we are staying in is very nice...its not much of a hostel...we have our own bathroom and downcomforters and down pillows. Ahh, its very nice! we are sleeping in a room with 6 other people. its an interesting mix. there were 2 guys from london in the room last night who were nice. we chatted with them for a bit which was entertaining because of the accents, but everyone was so tired that we soon passed out. they told us about a 'mad' man that was staying in the room that talked in his sleep. he is an interesting one. this morning i showered and got ready, the only thing left that i ... read more

hey guys. first off, this is going to be very hard to type because i do not know how to capitalize things, the z is in the y place and vice versa and i dont know how to use the apostrophe on this keyboard. anyways, prague was amazing, like i have already said. a few of my favorite things were the charles bridge where you had an amazing view of the city. emily and i walked across it at night and the view of the city was amazing. some of the buildings made me feel like i was in a fairytale picturebook. i took some pics and i will put them up when im back in avila. the communist museum was pretty interesting. its crazy to me that just about 16 years ago they were a ... read more
