Made it to our final destination after being eaten alive by mosquitos last night (our windows were open). My face is covered in bites and it looks and feels like I have chicken pox. Our alarms went off at 3:45am and we all jumped up to get to the water taxi. We got to the airport early so we had our 800th cup of cappuccino while we waited for our check-in window to open. I think the flight company was called Condor Flurgenhurgen (not even close on the 2nd word that's just what we've been calling it). After going through security and finally being called to board we walked down a long hallway and a few flights of stairs and ended up at a bus. We thought maybe flurgenhurgen was german for "magical flying bus" (like ... read more

Brez'n and Lederhosen Well, we sold our house, our cars, left our jobs, and our friends, my family and came to Munich for a change. After all, they say it's often the things you don't do in life that you regret, right? We couldn't speak any German, but fortunately Levent does have a job here, and he gets to work in English. Did I mention that when we arrived in Munich, I was very large? As in 8-months-pregnant large? Yes, we thought it would be a good idea to change nearly every aspect of our lives all at once: our son Kaan was born here two months after we arrived. Who says Germans aren't friendly? We have definitely had some customer-service issues here (more on that later), but if it were not for the help of ... read more

Oeeeee, oe, oe, oeeeee....

I finally met up with Heather after my long ride to Munich. I got off the train and walked in the 30 degree heat and snow to finally meet up with Heather in the lobby of the hostel. After her original 3 day plan, I finally met up with her 6 days later. We met some kids in our room and headed to the most famous Biergarden in all of Munich. We all had liter beers and pretzels and stumbled back home via the Metro at like 2. The next day, we got up, checked out, stored our stuff in the luggage room of our FINAL hostel (minus one day in Rotterdam) and headed out for a 4 hour walking tour of the city. We saw the Glockinspiel, the New and Old CIty Halls, the church ... read more

Munich, Germany: STOP THE RAIN! We have yet to experience a full day without rain, and our first days in Munich were by no means an exception. Not only did it rain, it rained significantly harder and longer than it has before. The temperatures dropped into the low 40s for most of the time, only peaking at a maximum of about 55 during the afternoon when the rain subsided. Whatever we did to deserve almost 2 weeks straight of rain, we are truly sorry. When we woke up our first morning in Munich, the wind was blowing and the rain was pouring. It was so bad that we were forced to abandon the bike tour that we had been planning to go on. It would have been a miserable ride through the city, and the wind ... read more

Well Munich was nice, but Im ready to move on. We leave tonight for Paris at 20:45 (8:45 pm). We will arrive at like 6:45 AM, I hope that I can sleep on this train, get a good spot and just sleep, but we shall see. Trains are really smooth so I am not too worried about that. Im just worried about the sleeping in a sitting position lol. Its ok, I can take a nap at the next hostel if I need to. We just went walking around today, we went into a few stores, they arent very big, but they are like around 5 or 6 stories high, so they are actually pretty sizeable. We finally found some Supermarkets today, all the big ones seem to be underground. You go as if you are ... read more

Well today was quite interesting. Got up had a shower, then left to go see the Viktualienmarkt. Its an open air market. I just call it the Alien Market. Anyhow, we went there to get some food, lots of fresh fruit markets and such as well as other restaurants. First I got chicken nugget things and chips (french fries) and that didnt fill me so I bought the biggest pretzel I have ever seen, it was great. After we explored that market for a couple hours we decided to go to the worlds oldest beer hall, Hofbräuns. Thats where Jocelyne and I both ordered a liter of beer and she had her lunch since she didnt eat at the market. We had quite a good time there. The beer was excellent in that beer hall. Then ... read more

Day 52: May 27 - CZECH REPUBLIC - Prague, GERMANY - Dachau, Munich Accommodation: Haus International Hostel, Munich It was time to leave the Czech Republic and visit Germany. We didn't get stopped at the border by passport control this time. It took another 5 or 6 hours or so with a few stops before Tash asked us something important. She said we were coming close to Dachau Concentration Camp but asked if any of us wanted to visit and if anyone did not want to visit the camp as it could be a very emotionally disturbing experience for some people. A fair few people were very interesting in going and no-one objected to it so we made a stop. We've all heard the stories from World War II where Hitler secretly ordered the Nazis to ... read more

Had a fabulous day on Friday we went through a grand total of 4 countries! Stopped off at lucern to drool over all the fabulous swiss watches, i was in heaven! well hell really cause i couldnt afford to buy any! also went to Lichtenstein the worlds third smallest principality, our tour guide greg, took the three of us around, there were only 3 of us on the bus it was great, anyway greg loved lichtenstein and gave us an hour lecture about a country that is only 25km long, i could probably tell you various other useless facts but i wont bore you. After lichtenstein it was through Austria and on to Munich. I got to catch up with Claire and Sam which was absolutely fantastic and very exciting. i managed to convince them to ... read more

Went to the big shopping arcade next to the hotel for brekky and after that drove down to Disneyland castle - Neuchenstein or something like that (look it up). Took the horse carriage up the hill and had lunch up next to the castle (yes, you guessed it - bratwurst). Need photos - one day. Drove back through Austria and saw some pretty big mountains and went through some decent sized tunnels.... read more
