Right.... This is a back log of a few things that ive done before i got to rome. It does only cover from when i was in nice but before that i think i have written down in a note book somewhere at the bottom of my bag. So its unreachable at the moment. Im having trouble finding the time to write in this and also deal with the pesterings that i get from certain family members to up date this. Yes that means all of you. So this will probably be bland and in a different style your all use to but to write about everything would take years. But on any future travels i promise to not let it all build up. Plus if i do find time ill write about my time in ... read more

So today was the IAU trip to the Carnaval de Nice. Carnaval is different from Mardi Gras remember- it lasts three weeks. After Nimes I was a little tired and wasn't sure if I wanted to go, but it ended up being a lot of fun. We left Aix around 9h30 and got to Nice at 11h30. We headed down the Promenade and enjoyed the sun and the beach. The sea was so pretty, this great blue. We stopped in a park where we heard music and saw people giving a performance all dressed in orange and yellow. Then Mollie and I wandered over to the Marche we had visited before and ate at the Atmosphere Cafe. We both had omelettes that were quite good. We walked back to the area with the fair rides and ... read more

Hello to all my friends and family who are reading this! So I have finally arrived in France. My flight went well and I am currently in Nice where I will be staying for 2 days before I take the train to Montpellier. It has been a busy day and I'm happy that part one of my journey is done! The hotel is very nice and it has free internet access! Speaking french has been going well, it might be a little rusty but I'll get into a groove after a few days and the people have been patient with me, so it's comforting. I've already made friends with the lady at the reception desk in the hotel cause I've had quite a few questions. Like who knew you had to use your key to the ... read more

Bonjour from France again. We are in the French Riviera and it is gorgeous here. We arrived in Nice yesterday and we cooked ourselves a lovely breakfast in our kitchenette, took a short nap, strolled the beach, did some laundry and called it a night. Those night trains really do a toll on us. We slept for about 12 hours last night and went running on the promenade along side the sea. It was a rough one for neither of us have ran in 2 weeks but it felt awesome and you cant beat the scenery. The locals here have too much time and money because their tan leathery skin is wrapped in these large fur coats and it is about 60 degrees here. People watching has been fun to say the least. We made ourselves ... read more

So I was pretty early today- first one there actually. Hooray for me. Anywho, the first stop on our excursion was Nice. I went around this seaside city with Molly and Bridget. We spent a good amount of time in the market, looking at the food, spices and assorted wonders. We bought socca- a kind of crepe from Mme Theresa (famous apparently) and ate it while looking further. It was great. Then we bought a pizza and ate that. Finally it was dessert time and I bought us all some canolis with different fillings, two orange cakes called canneles and a croissant Neapolitan with chocolate filling for myself. I told ya- I love chocolate. We took our treats up to the park atop this rock outcropping, from which you can look over the whole coastline of ... read more

Today was a long day, it was meant to be a driving day to Nice, France, but the bus' battery was flat, so we left 5 hours late. The 5 hours was wasted browsing around near the hotel. Which meant we arrived in Nice at pretty much midnight instead of 7pm. It was still good though, because most people went out (the next day was a free day, meaning no wake up call). So we only got to bed at 5somethign, meaning even though we woke at 1130 the next day - probably the latest of the trip so far - we only got a few hours sleep.... read more

Nice, not so surprisingly, is rather nice. Spectacular even.. And there's sun!! The first day we got here, after a mammoth train ride, that didn't take us to Italy as we'd originally planned, we had to make our way to the hostel. Unfortunately, this included us walking several kilometres up a very large hill! Not. Happy. Jan. Especially when we got to the hostel and were informed that they have a courtesy bus that could have picked us up. Grrrrr! Not only did we walk up the hill with our twenty plus kilo (ALAS, they have grown!) packs, we also walked a kilometre in the wrong direction. Uphill of course, and in the boiling heat - well, hot compared to elswhere we've been. Happily, we were given breakfast upon arrival, thus marking the start of a ... read more

So it is raining outside (not the nice cold rain i like, but the humid hurricane kind) and i am sick so i decided to stay inside sipping tea and emailing. I am trying to defeat a cold before it lays claim to my life. In Nice, i've met such a great group of people from my hostel room. there are 8 beds in the room and the first night 4 people actually paid to stay in the room, but i'm pretty sure about 10 people total were in with us. We cooked dinner, drank about a million bottles of whatnot, and went out dancing. the fun group consisted of some great bay area Cal Poly girls, a candian, some New Zealanders and two Philly boys whose accents make me miss my east coast friends, and ... read more

hello everybody this is josh. it has been awhile but we spent the last couple of days in cique terre and the compys werent cheap or in good supply so i havnet been around one. now we are in nice. we arrived this afternoon and will be here for the night and then to barcelona for three nights. the train ride is only 10.5 hours so it should be fun. i was surpsrised with nice. it is on the french riviera and right on the water. the train ride had some nice scenery. i think we are getting a little accustomed to the views of the mediterranean sea though cause we werent that excited. except when we saw two yachts in the harbor of monaco that were both about 200 feet each in length. huge. never ... read more
