A Quick Note Just to remind you guys that since I'll be up and travelling around from now until June 30, and will likely update once a week with tidbits on my travels. I hope to keep up with this, but it will depend on Internet access and time. If you want to know when I update, you can subscribe to get emails when I do. Also, I'd love to get emails as I go along! I'm sure I'll have points where I'll need pick-me-ups. I now have a (virtually) empty room and am taking a bit of a break until I start cleaning again. I packed my backpack today and if I don't say so myself, it is the BEST packing job I've ever done with that thing - at least it came at a ... read more

Worst Blogger Ever! I admit it. Yes. I am the worst blogger ever. For all my love of writing and my love of talking about myself to everyone around me, I can't seem to keep up with this blogging thing. I thought I'd have time in the next few days to do some real blogging before I leave, but things keep popping up and I don't have time for anything. I'll recount my glorious day for you all. *9am: Wake up, shower, breakfast (not all in the same minute, mind you) *10am: Out the door with laundry, ready to hit the town - err, laundromat - and find out that it's windy as anything. The sky also looks menacing, as though rain is approaching. What?! In Normandy?! *10:55am: As I am slow, it took me an ... read more

5th May 20006 Normandy Melissa and I started our trip in Normandy after spending several days with Jane and Dave in Ettalleville. We left Yevote and took the scenic route to Cean, This seemed like a good idea at the time but unfortunately it took a lot longer than we realised, Cean is amazing small town with a large Chateau in the centre. The chateau has castle walls surrounding it with a draw bridge over a dry mote. Walking through the town we came across Abbaye aux Hommes which was built in 1066 and is the resting place for William the Conqueror. 6th May The D Day Beaches Even though we had seen many images of the American cemetery nothing could describe walking through the memorial. By the end of the D Day over 135,000 men ... read more

Winding Down... I thought I'd write a bit of an update on what's going on here. I finished up exams last week (on the 10th I wrote two!) so I am unofficially a University graduate! Can't really believe it, but I haven't had too much time to dwell on the fact either. My exams were not studied for much for two reasons ... 1) I'm in France and when in France, you don't do work. 2) It was my last set of University exams! There is method to my madness when I'm lazy. I wanted to write also to say that you may be seeing random entries below this one to update on my previous travels. You already should see my trip to Marseille added, and I am currently writing an entry on Amsterdam. Before you ... read more

From Belgium we headed into France which was a nice change for us because we could understand much of what the signs and people say. As a Canadian it is embarrassing to admit that our French is less than good. Nick used to be close to bilingual and Sarah was okay, but now we have a hard time even stringing a sentence together, but we can often understand what somebody is asking and after a second can give a half-ass answer to get our point across (this was definitely not the case with Dutch or Flemish). We first went to Rouen which is a beautiful old town with many churches and characteristic northern French architecture (what we might call Tudor style). Rouen is where Joan of Arc was tried and burnt at the stake by the ... read more

Still here!! Just a quick note to let everyone know that I'm still here (in Europe!) and doing well. Just got back from my Spring Break trip with my Mom and had a total blast. Had to say another Airport goodbye :( But all good things have to come to an end. It went by REALLY fast and now it's almost May! Hard to believe. As of Wednesday (26th), I'll be off again. This time to Nice in Southern France. I'm hoping to do Monaco then. I just found out that we have Internet access ... So one of us will be bringing our computers, sweet!! WORKING INTERNET!! (My Internet in my room does not work and I'm not impressed!) I just realized that I basically have all of April to update on ... "Oh bother" ... read more

The Upcoming Trips For either my own remembrance cues, or to let all of you know where I'll be and when, I thought I'd give everyone an idea of the upcoming trips I'll be embarking over the next few months. So here we go... March 16 - March 19: Strasbourg, France Leaving Thursday night for my first ever overnight train. Not sure how that'll work out, but we'll reach Strasbourg at 5:30am, which I'm sure will be great fun. I'm going with Alison and Allison, so there will be a Canadian majority this time! Haha. We're hoping to get over to the German border since I'd at least like to say I've been to Germany - even if it's not at the top of my list of places to go. March 24 - March 26: Luxembourg ... read more

Dieppe + Mont St. Michel As I believe that I will perpetually begin to forget all the wonderful places I've been, I think it's important to keep up with my trips. My memory is only as great as I allow it to be. So without further adieu, I now present a very condensed version of last weekend! Saturday March 4 Alison and I headed on the train to head to Dieppe generally for research purposes for my now-defunked part of a French Civilization project. It served its purpose like no one's business, and filled me with Canadian pride. I shall explain. 1942. WW2 is raging. British commanders decide that Dieppe is a good place to send the Canadian troops in an attempt to squash the Nazi occupation in France. So they go. A failed attempt to ... read more

Reconsidering... After a night of freaking out, (and some help from some friends) I've come to a few realizations about my most recent roadblock: *Travelling on my own would be scary, but it would be incredibly exciting. *I would meet so many more people travelling alone for a month than if I were to be with others. *I came to Europe to explore possibilities, grow as a person, and be stronger and more secure in my life. Exploring Europe on my own would accomplish this ever important goal. I already feel like I'm stronger and more confident than I was just two months ago - imagine how much more I would be after a month of traveling on my own? *I can do WHATEVER I want to do. I don't have to answer to anyone's demands ... read more
