Today was another road trip day. It actually rained for the better part of the drive but it stopped right as we were arriving at our first stop of the day! This was a town called Orleans and it was very quaint. The centre had a merry-go-round with two levels and a statue of Jeanne d'Arc. We ate lunch right in the centre and three of us enjoyed mussels which are in season at the moment. They were delicious. Rachel had pizza.....Anyways, we wandered around the streets for a while until we found the Jardin d'Hotel Groslot. This building is an old residence which is now used as a municipal office and the gardens there are very nice. There was a gingko bilaboa tree that was 150 years old! Orleans is at the eastern side of ... read more

Forecast was sunshine but it was raining a little when we got up so no problem going in Tandy to the supermarket to get our take home shop. There's an Intermarche the other side of Beaugency we've used a few times so we drove along to there and stocked up with Bob's wine supplies for the summer. Then off to the Chateau at Cheverny as we've not visited it before. Perfect timing as we arrived and found a nice big free carpark just for motorhomes, the sun came out again. Had a lovely visit. Saw the rather lovely hunting hounds and then the Kitchen Gardens which are wonderful. Then off to the cafe for lunch before a touring the chateau itself. An excellent finale to what has turned out to be a very good holiday.... read more

Driving day today. Perfectly scheduled as this was the wetter day of the week. Always nicer to have dry weather for our 'onsite' days. Pleasant drive through the countryside admiring the change from the sandy coloured buildings of the Dordogne to the limestone of the Loire. We were heading for the campsite Chateau de la Grenouillere - at Suevres just to the East of Blois and following the Loire. We're stopped here a couple of times but not for a while. Lovely spot. It suffered a bad flood at the end of May (Chambord was also inundated at the same period) and lots of the grounds show this. Looks a little like a building site in places with the flood repairs and also the number of new chalets which are being built in the grounds - ... read more

Mostly, this was a day of getting from one place to another. It was prolonged because a major highway was closed, we think due to flooding or flood damage. This caused us to take another route that added 100 km to our trip. But we try to never have a day without doing something of interest, so today we stopped by the little town of Annecy, France. It has canals and a river runs through it, and is picturesque enough that it has been said to be one of the prettiest small towns in France. We wandered the streets, looked into the old chateau, and then Dean and Chuck and I stopped at a local brasserie and had cappuccino and waffles, while the ladies went shopping. We then drove on into Bourges, which we did not ... read more

IVe been trying to post pictures to the blog from my phone but to no avail. Not sure if this is due to poor network connections or something else. The network connections are likely to take turn for the worse too, so take a look on FB for possible trip pics. Yesterday was a rainy day in Paris. We walled along the Seine and through the town and bought a lock to put on the bridge as tribute to 20 great years together. Then it started to rain so we ducked into a cafe for lunch and sat dry under the awning for a couple of hours eating, drinking wine and watching the Parisienne scramble by trying not to get wet or not seeming to care about getting wet. I had onion soup, of course, and ... read more

Well I made a post with lots of details only to have it disappear. But we're not doing much right now, just relaxing, trying out the new (to us) neighborhood of St Germaine de Pres. Hopefully this blog will get better when we go to Seychelles. This is a new area in Paris for us and we were surprised to find its a real epicenter for sporting fervor. Last nigh France played Romania and the streets were totally clogged with yelling cheering people. Even though many of the sidewalks were full of trash from the garbage strike. This afternoon we went for our meeting with Dino, our new EMEA sales rep. We went to a lovely restaurant and shared a platter of cold seafood. The prawns and langustino and lobster were great but we found the ... read more

Well the first day here was spent napping and trying to get our devices to work. I had left the charging cord for my main computer, a Galaxy 12 notebook, at home and so we needed to find one in Paris since we aren't likely to in Seychelles. We were discouraged on the taxi ride in by seeing no electronic s stores, but the hotel front desk man told us how to walk 15 minutes down the main street to the FNAC store (pronounced just the way it looks). After some minor confusion we found just what we needed. But needed a nap more, and a couple hours down time enabled us to stay up late enough to have dinner and spend an hour on the phone with Verizon trying to get the data on our ... read more

Rien entendu, rien vu... ouf nous n'avons ... read more

Sunday morning, I was up at 6 so I could shower, change have some breakfast and pick up our Zipcar all before 8:30. The Zipcar was about 10 blocks away so it was easy to walk to and the drive back to the hotel to pick up everyone else was just as easy, straight down the road the car was on and one turn on to Rue du Champs de Mars. We were driving to Versailles, where we would drop Christina and Jourdan off for the day, so they could visit what I consider to be the most treasured place in Europe (that we have seen so far) and that is Chateau Versailles (Pompeii is also amazing). I specifically recommended a Sunday so the fountains would be going in the afternoon (unfortunately it rained and they ... read more

Life Winter is now over in mid April but you would not guess it with the temperature back down to low singles at night but even 8 degrees during the day seems warm after Feb and March, should have kept the electric blanket on. Never mind we can snuggle down with the Tibetan bed warmer. (Not the Dalai Lama although he does seem like a great chap)We are definitely going away next winter possibly by ferry to the Canary Islands if we can take Yeti. Failing that a villa in Spain or Portugal. Then for the one after will think about a return to Aus and try and work out what to do with Swara , we came close to putting her up for sale but changed our mind. We know she is still there in ... read more
