Geo: 47.4104, 0.981122 We left St. Malo and stopped at Fougeres to see the St. Leonard church and the public gardens. We walked the ramparts and took photos of one of the largest medieval castles in France. We drove to Chinon in the Loire valley to visit some chateaus. All we have been seeing so far in the countryside is corn, no grapes. They grow a lot of corn here. We asked a local where all of the corn went and he said it was feed for the animals. We drove over to Langeais Chateau. It is a fortress like chateau with 16th century furnished rooms. After that we drove to our B&B for the night. A very nice B&B in a French house. We worden 's ochtends vroeg gewekt omdat Thierry en Delphine naar hun werk moeten, en zien Thierry plots in pak, een hele omschakeling. We kunnen nog terecht bij Manu en Juliette, waar ik mijn blog kan aanvullen en we verder ontbijten. Met enige moeite kan ik nog een fiets repareren, het minste wat we terug kunnen doen. Bepakt met quiche Lorraine en overheerlijke kaas vervolgen we onze weg door de velden, waar we eerst lunchen aan een picknicktafel die op de meest onlogische plek geplaatst is, en later temidden van duizenden zonnebloemen een middagdutje doen. We vervolgen onze weg naar Sainte Catherine de Fierbois, waar we voor een stempel worden doorverwezen naar Sainte Maure de Touraine, het volgende dorp. 's Ochtends bergen we onze tassen op in een kast in het Ibis en gaan op zoek naar een stempel. De kathedraal is de mooiste die ik tot nu toe gezien heb, en we hebben ook nog het bijbehorende klooster bezocht. De mensen hier geven ons weer hoop, ze zijn vriendelijk en bekend met de 'Chemin de Sant-Jacques'. Aan het einde van de dag lopen we richting Sant-Avertin langs een enorme rivier. Een priester komt ons vriendelijk lachend tegemoet, en knikt in erkenning. Nu voelen we ons pas pelgrims. We wijken af van de rivier en lopen de bergen in. We vullen onze camelia's nog aan het einde van het dorp en zetten onze tenten op het land van een boer. We eten eindelijk weer wat en komen helemaal tot rust. Opeens valt er een tor ... read more

Bob had very carefully chosen our route from Le Crotoy to Chartres taking special care in working out how to get across the Seine river which is never terribly straightforward. Rouen is the obvious route across but we hate Rouen, for a couple of reasons after problems there on previous trips, so do our very best to avoid it. Today’s route was absolutely excellent. The weather was drop dead blue sky gorgeous, the roads almost empty of traffic being a Sunday on a holiday weekend. The Tandy was in excellent spirits and so were we after a good long and obviously much needed sleep. Atlantic to Orleans After successfully riding from the Mediterranean to the Atlantic (see last blog) we stayed at Lacunau-Ocean for 4 nights . Great little place, really good for cycling. We rode loops north and south through casuarina plantations, with views to the sea when on the coastal side and views over the inland lagoons when on the inland side. Sand dunes can be deceptively high, but without luggage they weren’t too bad. From there we rode back to Bordeaux, a long ride with some interesting company. Loved the cyclists who were travelling with their cat and dog in the cycle trailer. Bordeaux is great, I particularly like the Bordeaux waterfront which has everything.
