Skoncili sme na kakavu so slahackou. Na bus zastavke ma nalozila na bus c.1 co ide do centra. Ten sa neskor riadne zaplnil. Stal sa zazrak, na treti pokus som nasiel odporucanu restiku skriti kut. Som sledoval tlupu ludi co sli do podchodu. Fakt ... read more

Just returned from a BBQ at Elephant F1 Camping in Ster with Sarah J, Justyn P, Chris and Nicky T and Gavin and Kate W. Campsite is rammed - music is a mix of rockabilly and German techno. More atmosphere than here at the Football Club - but the downside is that anyone trying to leave the campsite before Monday will struggle (a bit like the campsites at the German and Austrian Grand Prix's for those of you that have travelled there). Cycled back from Elephant camping in an electric storm - we waited until we got back before we cracked open the wine... Now chilling with wine in hands and listening to music. We think all of our neighbour's have gone to bed already (it is 11.30pm), although a couple did suggest we retract our ... read more

Really casual morning today, it was raining so instead of walking around Bruges a little more we decided to push on to Lieges. After an uneventful two hour drive we made it. Hostel is nice, and gave us good advice on a walk around the highlights of Lieges. A mammoth hill climb and a few miles (and beers) later we're ready for a nice evening meal. Spa tomorrow, but it looks like it may well be wet, so we may have to improvise a little. Jason - asleep, got a sore back, possibly car related Tom - asleep Steve - asleep Joss - comforting his mother on the phone ;) Mike - waiting for people to wake up Overall everyone is loving the trip so far, Belgium has been great and the car has been a ... read more

I can't say 'back home' with Ralph and Ria because they moved clear across Belgium to the German border. For those people who asked me if I was going to Germany, "I'm sorry," I didn't think I would be passing through Germany, but I've been there three times already this week because we are so close to the border. We've been so busy every day, I thought I sent this blog out four days ago. Last Friday we went to a craft fair nearby, Saturday to the three border region where Belgium, Holland and Germany meet. Sunday, Ria and I went to Aachen across the border into Germany to walk the town that claims Charlemagne. His image is everywhere, from the gold bust in the museum to the candy in the shops. The architecture is Roman, ... read more

Palaces, saxophones and elevators for boats among other things The main goal for our visit to Belgium was to visit the town Baarle-Hertog/Baarle-Nassau. We have already written about that part of the trip. We had a few more days on our hands and decided to drive around and see what the rest of Belgium is like. If we are to give you a quick resume we can say that the rest of Belgium is very enjoyable and interesting and we will definitely go back again in the future for another road trip. We loved it! The only downside we can think of is the food. We had way too much french fries to eat these days. There are many palaces in Belgium. We are not saying that there are more palaces per capita there the... read more

This was an amazing and informational trip this morning. Not to hard to get to luckily either. The cemetary had all kinds of information and I worked with them at the desk a little bit collecting information about great uncle James Becvar. It was funny because in Belgium, they speak French and German (French in the section I was) so I had to communicate in mostly German, but at the cemetary they had an American working it. He sent me home with some stuff as well. He was even nice enough to tell me that James died in the battle of Huertgen forest, a 3 month campain! He sent me with more information and I was excited to find out you can have them put a wreath out for him whenever you would like. It turns ... read more

Up early for b/fast before a 4hr bus trip to Belgium. After a cautious lunch we stopped the bus at the top of the Mur de Huy and we stepped out into pouring rain and the first serious ride of the trip. A short work up and we rolled into the famous hill, famed for being Cadel's winning leg on the 2010.This hill wasn't too painful, the main problem being wheelies and the back wheel spinning on the paint lines in the rain.Despite reaching 26% it was quite short and we both managed it well. We progressed to the the next hill which was much tougher, still peeing down with rain but the country side was great so the time, mainly through agricultural land and then into forrest, so time passed very quickly. Several more steep ... read more

What a day! Set out on the hotel at 8.00 am into Stavelot and then immediately turned sharp left up a very big hill. Then we continued out though the Arden and over 5 very tough climbs totalling 1700 meters!. Continued for four grueling hours over 100 Kms, but the countryside was fantastic and we both finished very well. Weather was great, not too hot and intermittent sunshine. Back to the hotel for a a quick lunch and then we cycled up another hill to watch the race go by immediately adjacent to Franchecomp race track. Skippy attracted much attention again and a honk from the green edge car. Then it was back to town for dinner at a local resteraunt. This was a disaster. Gaye's meal never arrived and the rest of the food was ... read more
