Hello all 70 of you. How do I know that 70 of you can't wait for the next episode? I don't.! ? All I know is it goes out to that many email address's Anyway today was special. Fantastic weather as we took multiple cable cars to some awesome views. One had 3 different cable cars sections that went to the very top. The other was 2 very long chair lifts. One was a 4 seat and the other was a 6 seater. We had them all to ourselves. Always nice to take photos in the open air. BTW the air was wonderful! This evening we walked around the area of the village we are staying in. The roads in the village are like the tentacles of an octopus.? You almost need a gps to find ... read more

Here's an update Today we went across the border from Germany to Austria. About a 1.5 hour trip over the mountains. Weather was very delightful. Sunny and about 75. My 2ND fuel fill up with diesel for the new Peugoet was 51 mpg Glad of that as fuel is approx $5 a gallon. Tomorrow we hope to go to Berchtesgaden There is some history there from WW II plus it is a beautiful region sticking down into Austria. till later Lowell... read more

After a good nights sleep and waking up at 7:15, I was able to grab breakfast before heading out. The breakfast was okay. The scrambled eggs were a little wet for my taste. I tried the bacon which looked different. It was VERY salty. The little sausages weren’t very tasty. So I ate lightly. I left to go to Ulla Popken, the plus size clothing store. I did stop on the way at a bakery to see if I could find a cake called Socher torte. They didn’t have it. I got to Ulla Popken a little early, but after they opened the doors I got right down to shopping. Their prices were a little higher than in America. I found 2 tops and 1 top/capri set (I think it’s pajamas, but I really liked the ... read more

Weather has cooled down, just a few degrees, but to a more manageable temperature after a bit of a storm in the night. Lots of flashing over the mountains to the south but it only rained for a few minutes so we quickly shut the windows and went back to sleep. All cleared up again in the morning though we’ve expected rain on and off all day but it didn’t materialise. We scootered down the hill toward Ruette and stopped for coffee at a rather delightful spot by lake Haldensee. Bob thought he had seen a road we could use to scooter round but it proved to be just a walking trail so we stopped for a drink at the handily located café instead. Wished I’d taken my swimming things as I would have loved to ... read more

Today we left Germany and hopped over the border to Austria. Just for three nights but we want to visit one of the German castles and the Austrian campsite Bob has found is the most convenient, albeit it’s in a different country. We had a bit of a storm in the night with lots of flashing lightning for a couple of hours, then half an hour of rain and some half hearted thunder. Then it was gone as quickly as it came and all fresh and lovely again this morning. Most of the drive was through Germany following the border and with the mountains to our left. I would say south and they probably were but the compass which sits on the dashboard decided it was going South whichever way we went. Think the electricity from ... read more

Don't know what I did when booking but first part of our train journey from Venice to Verona was in executive class. Hilarious, beautiful carriage, with a boardroom, massive seats and enough legroom to fully stretch out. Not many people in this carriage and those that were, obviously business men and women in suits and discussing business type stuff. They definitely looked down their noses at the two tourist types who wheeled in their 3 suitcases and 2 backpacks! Changed trains at Verona and still an adventure as it was a Harry Potter type train with the little 4 seat rooms. Andrea and Garry had an elderly American couple who had lived in Palmerston North for 2 years with them, they chatted the whole way and Stephen and I scored a whole wee room to ourselves, ... read more

Finally Swarovski World. Purchased a 24 hour pass with the Innsbruck Card to go out to Swarovski World at Wattens. Next bus due to leave at 10.20 am and we had an hour and twenty minutes to fill in so walked into city centre for a look around. When we had booked to come here I was having a look at pictures on the internet and the buildings reminded me of the song "Little Boxes". As we were walking along the street the lyrics hit me again: "There's a green one and a pink one, and a blue one and a yellow one" (see picture below). OK, I know they are not exactly little boxes, nor are they made of ticky tacky, but you get what I mean... Pretty place with so much detail on the ... read more

I didn't want a thirty minute walk to the hostel after yet another unexpected hike at Neuschwanstein but that is exactly what I got. My hostel in Innsbruck wasn't the most conveniently located and it is on long, tiring walks like this at night, when you're tired, hungry, dirty and cold, that you really wish you were home. Archaic Sunday trading laws have to change too; there was no place still open and selling food at 8pm - hardly past anyone's bedtime. Luckily I still had a massive loaf of sweet raisin bread that I had bought in Fussen. To top things off, I had managed to pick up a cold too; I would normally have jumped at the free breakfast included in the price of my stay but I was just too tired to get ... read more
