I am in Antigua, Guatemala. I arrived in Guate a few days ago. I went to Lago de Atitlan and then to Xela. I signed up for 5 hours of one on one spanish class for 2 weeks, plus housing and 3 meals a day with a local family for 330 US dollars. This is a darn good deal. The school is also gonna hook me up with some volunteering in a Hospital from 2-6 everyday. I am pretty excited and I think I can really get some Espanol skillz in 2 weeks, especially with one on one instruction. I have been riding too many chicken busses, those things are crazy. They dont even stop to pick you up, they just slow down a bit. And some guy will just grab you bag and climb up ... read more

... read more

Kees had n... read more

Leaving Nicaragua behind was hard but we have to be in Guatemala for our voluntary work soon. No problems with the border crossing to Honduras except that you do not get an exit or entry stamp. We didn´t know that and tried to persuade immigration that we really need a stamp! Our first stop in Honduras was the capital Tegus and it was a lot nicer than expected. Everybody told us that it is really bad but they probably stayed in the area where the buses arrive and leave and that´s really not that nice. As we arrived in the afternoon we decided to stay in the center to explore the city a bit and you have some fine churches there. As we love the beach so much, we headed to the Bay islands next ... read more

Whelp, haven't updated much recently. Last entry from San Ignacio. Just finished finals and all that jazz, I don't think I've realized that I've just turned in the last of my work for my undergrad career. What to do now??? Moving on, that's what. It's been a pretty troubling day, watching all my friends fly back to the states, trying not to feel so empty. The strange thing is that I know I will see them all in a few short weeks, when I too, return home. Maybe more remorse for the people that I will probably never see again. Those goodbyes are so hard, what are you going to say, "Well, see ya never." That's pretty much how it went, in case you were wondering. Were all armed with facebook and eachothers email, but in ... read more

Well, it was our last day today. The power and internet have been out intermittently, so we haven´t been able to update our blog as often as we like, and we cant put pictures on which sucks, but we will show them to you later. Friday morning after a big breakfast of omlettes and smoothies (mmmm smoothies, I will miss them....) we took a SURFING lesson with Banana Surf, which we all enjoyed thoroughly. Vince and I rented boards for the rest of the day and surfed until we had another monsoon. Rain like I have never seen. Jess (smarter than us) had gone in a little earlier, but by the time V and I got out, the rain was in full force. We walked our surfboards back to the surf shop, and ended up just ... read more

On the 23rd April we caught a bus from Liberia in Costa Rica to Rivas in Nicaragua. The border crossing went remarkably smoothly and only took us just over an hour. By the time we got dropped off in Rivas, Kez was bursting and there was no restaurant in sight so she just asked a random lady sitting on her porch if she could use her toilet and the old dear was so sweet about it. Imagine doing that in Vienna! From Rivas we caught a collectivo (basically a taxi that takes as many people as it can) to the beach resort of San Juan del Sur. It is a really cute little town with lots of little shack bars along the beach, perfect for sundowners. It’s also the gateway to some incredible beaches just ... read more

Sweating in Tikal Central America Caribbean » Guatemala » Flores Tikal By Alex MeganApril 29th 2007Alex & Megan Hey everyone, this will be short update because I have limited internet time. Just want to let you know we´re alive and well in Tikal right now. We got here yesterday afternoon after a long, hot shuttle ride from Coban. Seems the further north we move in this country, the hotter it gets. We´re getting more used to feeling sticky and dirty all the time. This morning we were up at 3 am for the much talked about ¨sunrise tour¨ of the Mayan ruins at Tikal, about an hour from whe... read more

Moi! Se kylä on todella pieni, alueella asuu kuulema 105 perhettä. Ihmiset puhuvat siellä Kekchin mayakieltä. Yleensä ainoa liikenne jota siellä on, on possu tai kana joka pyyhältää tien yli. Siellä siis kuljeskeli eläimet vapaana ympäriinsä. Olin autossa ihmisille aika näht... read more
