Good morning too everyone, from Haiti With now over five months under our belt here in Haiti.., we are doing great and all is well with us. Our living experiences keep growing and we are learning so much during our time here. We have had so many touching moments here, from being invited to soccer matches and watching the game sitting on the ground surrounded by so many young children that it would be hard to count them all. So many of them asking how to spell our names and asking us to describe what it is like where we come from, to even just wanting to touch you, or hold your hand or touching our hair (they are amazed that our hair is straight and silky, unlike theirs). We are from another planet to ... read more

Kidney Stone In Haiti!! It all started out on Sunday April 29th. I was feeling great when I woke up. Got up early, enjoying the sun rising to my east, but this day was to take an eventful turn. At around 8am we took a short car ride to get some fuel and this is when things started to go down hill!! At first, it felt like a bad cramp, so I decided to return back on board to try to do my business, in the hopes that this would eliminate the mystery cramp!! Man was I wrong! As the pain struck with avenges, I laid in our bunk trying to find a comfortable position for this pain to pass!! No way! Every moment that passed the pain got more painful with no relief in ... read more

Pestel, Haiti Waypoint 18º 32’.581 N 073º 47’.455 W “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do then by the ones you did. So throw off our dock lines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover” a quote from Mark Twain. Only now do we realize what we do on a daily bases, to be Living a True Adventure!!. From pulling into places you have never been before, and having your breath taken away by the beauty!! To being the only one you know that has ever been there!! To seeing, through our eyes, what we have seen over the past years!! Roseaux, Haiti Waypoint 18º 36’.215N 074º 01’.165W On Saturday morning, we lifted anchor from Jérémie and headed back north for the journey back to Grande Goave. We were recommended to stop in a little village along the way named Roseaux. This quaint little village is located in the South along the Northern shore line between the city of Jérémie and Corail. During our short stop here on Saturday we took a 30 to 40 minute hike to see two sights of interest. The first one being this little cove that needs to be put on a post card!! And the second is a cave that was tucked in the side of a nearby mountain. Covered with insect repellent, we set foot to see these wonderful sites. As we hiked along, we where surrounded by curious ... read more

Grande Anse, Haiti. Waypoint 18º 34’.414N 073º 39’.353W On Thursday, April 19th, we sailed back towards the south for a four day weekend of peace and new discovery. We spent the night on the shoreline of Bria, (who, by the way, are doing great). On Friday, we set sail, for a second time, to visit Grande Anse, a picturesque, palm tree covered, beach village which is located on the opposite shore from Bria. This is one of a few villages that takes great pride, which is shown by the cleanliness of the village and it’s surroundings. There is no trash lying in the streets and on the grounds and everything is kept clean and manicured. During this visit, the community congregated to clean up the beach near there village, as a team. This voluntary group ... read more

Jérémie, Haiti. Waypoint 18º 38’.480N 074º 06’.574W “Some historical Snippets on Haiti” Taino Indians named the whole Island Haiti, meaning ‘Mountainous’. (The highest and lowest points in the Greater Antilles are found just miles apart near 71 degrees longitude - Pico Duarte at 10,417 feet and Lago Enriquillo at 130 feet below sea level). Columbus claimed Haiti for Spain during his first voyage of 1492 and named it Hispaniola. He lost his small flag ship the ’Santa Maria’ on the reefs at Caracol Bay soon after. In January 1492 he started construction of the medieval style city of La Isabela at 71º 05’.00W on the north shore. La Isabela was abandoned four years later for a more favorable location and the city of Santo Domingo was established. This city became the principal business and cultural ... read more

Bria, Haiti (returning with needed gifts from Canada) Annie & I would like to start by sending out a warm thank you to all those who helped out this past February in donating all the incredibly needed items for the small village of Bria, Haiti. On April 14th 2007, after sailing in the night before, we had the incredible experience of personally distributing everything, face to face, to the villagers. Facing us was a sensitive challenge of trying to distribute all the articles we had in a fair manner, since we did not have enough of everything for everyone and these people can use, and need, so much (although the totality of what we brought from Canada weighed over 300 lbs and took 5 hockey bags to carry..). We also wanted to be careful not ... read more

Haiti, an adventure that warms the heart. Everything is good on our end and spring is definitely in the air here in Haiti. The mango tree branches are almost touching the ground, filled with ripening mangos. In one to two weeks time, there will be so many mangos to eat, that every child will have their face covered in mango. Rain is now becoming more frequent and the temperature at high noon is getting hotter and hotter, but the nights are still cool. Over the Easter weekend, we set sail back to Montrouis to spend this holiday. It was nice to see some of the locals’ familiar faces and we took the opportunity to distribute some many needed articles which we had brought back from Canada. We grinned at one particularly appreciative man as he ... read more

Haiti: our adventure continues!! As we state on our web site! Surrounded by beautiful scenic landscapes… the pool is opened 24 hours a day (no chlorine, no lifeguard and at own risk). Palm trees and coconuts.. $6 bottles of rum.. Snorkeling on reefs with more colors than you can imagine.. Romantic outdoor sunset dinners, while being serenaded by the wind and waves, and later by the glow of the moon… We can truly now say this is not a statement but the truth to our daily lives!! Our time is well spent here in Haiti, as every day is driven by our quest for discovery, learning and adventure. With almost four months under our belt here, we have learned so much since our arrival this past December. Much of our time is invested to the ... read more

Tuesday March 13th 2007 Let us tell you that updating everything is something of an adventure here… The last time we made the long hike to the town of Grande Goave to update our last posting, arriving there to find out that the electrical power was out (no Surprise here!)! We were told that the power had been out for some 4 days by then, something to do with a fallen tree near by. With no idea as to when the power will be restored, we where kindly offered by the owners the internet service, that we could rent a local generator in order to use their internet connection. Finalizing the monetary agreement, the generator was delivered and we were up and running on the internet, with the rented generator humming in the back ground. . ... read more
