I’ve been struggling to adjust to being on this ship. But now, two weeks in, I have something very exciting to occupy me - Ginny has come to cruise with me! Ginny is going to be here for 2 cruises - 10 days - and I’m so happy about that. We’ve also completely lucked out. Though she was booked to stay in a crew cabin, a guest cabin was available, so she got to move in there. Plus there’s an extra bed in there for me - so I’m sleeping in a cozy guest bed this cruise! Then we got seating in the guest dining room, so we’re eating like queens. Excellent. She arrived yesterday and already we’re in port today. Nassau. We’d decided to just explore on our own. So we took the water taxi ... read more

I liked the hostel that I was staying at in Miami so much that I decided to stay there for the rest of my time in Miami. I have now made good friends with three guys Stuart, Carlo and Timor. On the second last day Stuart and I went down to Key West which is the southernmost part of the USA. We got a coach down there and it's about a 3 hour drive. The drive is really cool though cause to get down there you have to drive across 34 islands and one of the bridges between the islands is 11km long! when we were down there we hired some bikes and spent the day cruising around the docks, beaches and streets of Key West. For the last couple of nights in Miami I went ... read more

Daddy took me on a 3 night cruise! This was definitely a different way to travel. The only other time I slept on a boat was in Halong Bay, Vietnam for 1 night, but this boat was much different. It was a HUGE boat with many restaurants, pools, Jacuzzis, and even a waterpark and miniature golf course. We went with Christy and her son, Jonathon. Dad and Christy have been friends since they met in the Air Force Officer's Training Camp over 10 years ago. Like daddy, Christy is not in the military anymore. It was great to have a friend on the boat and we got along great. The best part of the trip was the day we spent on the Bahamas. We first took a smaller boat to a small little island called Blackbeards ... read more

Nicole, Steph, and I had been waiting weeks to visit the Atlantis Resort while we were in Nassau, and we were finally all off duty in the port together, so off to Atlantis we went. We were super excited to see sharks, as Nicole has a great fear/strange obsession with them and we knew it would be exciting for her to see them. We purchased the "Discover Atlantis" package, and spent the day exploring the aquariums. There were tons of cool fish, a manaray, sharks, and I finally got to see what a sea horse looks like! I was surprised at how many of the fish I could identify and name. I guess my fish ID course from diving paid off! We had a lot of fun hanging out today for the day, as it was ... read more

With the Winter season rolling around, it can only mean one thing: Cheap cruises! The $99 special for our inside room (plus port fees and gratuity of course) was too good to pass up. So that is how Chris and I found ourselves making the 10 1/2 hour drive to Miami after eating Turkey on Thanksgiving evening. The Itinerary Friday Evening - Depart Miami Saturday - 8AM - 5PM - Nassau Sunday - 8AM - 5PM - Great Stirrup Cay (Norwegian's Private Island) Monday - 7AM - Back at Miami. This was my 4th cruise, and Chris's 5th. I was new to Nowegian, so I was a bit curious about how they planned to set themselves apart from Carnival and Royal Caribbean with their freestyle concept. In a nutshell, my evaluation is that I still prefer ... read more

Our first stop on our 14 day repositioning cruise in the Caribbean was Nassau, Bahamas. Unfortunately, Steph, Nicole, and I had to finish our Basic Safety course, as it was too cold in the waters of Canada to complete the last element of the course - jumping off the ship, flipping a liferaft, and climbing into it. This is what we did in Nassau. Luckily, because we went first, we got the chance to get off the ship and explore a bit of Nassau. We only had about an hour, but we walked through town to a nearby beach, where we saw Jimy and Humberto. We hung out there for a little while before heading back to the ship. Nassau is actually one of the places that we’ll be visiting on a weekly basis, during our ... read more
