Nassau has a slow customs procedure. I was in line nearly half an hour, right behind a young American man who was also traveling alone. We both wore dark jackets and formal shirts, whilst around us loud mouthed families in shorts and slacks and joggers made us look slightly conspicuous. We got chatting. He was here to visit a bank, some kind of work to do with the bank in London he worked for. I told him I was here to investigate the offshore business. Oh, that’s cool, he said, nodding earnestly, that’s cool. Are you a journalist? I explained as best I could. That’s cool, he said again, still nodding. I tried to get more information out of him, but he was having none of it. As we shuffled down the line he got more ... read more

Tomorrow I will be going to Nassau, the Bahamas. For the duration of my stay, I’ll be posting a blog every day. But this won’t be a conventional travel blog. For one thing, I’m not really on vacation, although you might think so, given that I’ll be in the sun-kissed Caribbean. The blog will in fact report on some of the work I’ll be doing whilst I’m on the island. It will also serve as a kind of insurance policy, a statement of intent, in case anything happens to me. Some time ago, I was contacted out of the blue by the Swedish artists goldin+senneby. They asked me if I wanted to participate in an exploration of how the secret world of offshore companies might somehow be linked to Acéphale (‘Headless’ in Greek), a secret society ... read more

hey hey hey!!! well I think this will probably be my last blog, its been a while, and I have been horrible with this travelblog....so I apologize for not writing more! lets just say I havent had much time to write:) So I dont know if you all know but its been hectic the last month on here...this what happened... Tim one of our male dancers got fired..for possession of drugs onboard...it was a sad day, as he just made a stupid mistake which cost him his job! he was a great guy and a great partner. I was so sad to see him go. Laura(dance captain) went home for a10 days and I took over that role:) it was a long 10 days being dance captain. Then we hit one of our show weeks, and ... read more

Mom & Lee signed onto the Liberty yesterday and I love having them here. Seeing them emphasizes to me how much has happened in the time I’ve been away. It feels like a long time ago, last fall when I was home and living in Toronto. Already I feel lighted, happier, more energized than I have since my transfer. This morning we were in Nassau, Bahamas. Mom, Lee & I went on a “Harbour Cruise” and tour of the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island.. There wasn’t much to the Harbour Cruise - I think I learned more on the water taxi when I was here last year. But being on an official tour, we got to see a lot more of the resort than when I’d come on my own last year with friends. We were ... read more

Jacksonville--The Departure It is funny how things work out sometimes. Neal and I planned our cruise last year for Feb 4 because we planned on getting married on Feb 2. But in a whirlwind of unexpected events, we ended up tying the knot last year, and taking the cruise just weeks before we leave for Korea (which should be around March 1). We drove down to Jacksonville, FL the night before and stayed downtown at the Omni Hotel. What a beautiful city. It was pretty eerie how abandoned and quiet it was, I guess because it was a Sunday night, We ordered room service which was great because they had Argentinian food! It was the most gourmet meal I'd ever had, and was muy delicioso ;) . There was also a heated pool on the roof, ... read more

On Thursday, Meagin, Anne, Ashley and I boarded the Carnival Sensation for our 3 day Bachelorette Extravaganza. The first day was kind of cold outside, so we spent our day exploring the ship, drinking, and then hitting up the clubs onboard that evening. The ship was quite interesting. Meagin was the only one of us that had cruised before(and it had been several years ago), so we didn't really know what to expect. I am pretty sure we walked into a 1970s roller rink with all of the flashing purple neon. It was a far cry from the elegant ship I had seen on "Titanic" and in my Cunard mailers. I guess thats what we get for deciding on a ship which was reviewed as "a floating trailer park". It was cheap, and we had fun, ... read more
