The Bahamas were so much fun! I was greeted at the airport by Alex and Katie. We looked worlds apart, them in nice clothes, good hair and Katie in a cool blonde wig and me in my messy travel clothes, bad hair and with a big heavy backpack. We stopped the taxi to get pizza then proceeded to our hotel. Pizza/pasta could in fact be the theme of this section of my travels! Despite dire warnings about the Nassau Beach Hotel and bad reviews I thought it was amazing. It was all I could have asked for. Imagine my joy in finding a hot shower and that I could flush toilet paper down the toilet! Honestly, it's all about the simple things! We spent our days either by the pool, on the beach, or shopping. ... read more

Apparently I was wrong! Yes, I said it I was wrong, get over it. Red today and brown tomorrow served not to be true. Well kind of. I certainly was red after St. Maarten last voyage, and after two days it turned one Nubian colour of brown. It was an amazing tan. That is until the itching started. And you all know what that means - PEELING….. NOOOOOOOO! Regardless of how much moisturizer I caked on and let marinate my shoulders and upper back peeled - like a baked potatoe. It was actually really yucky. I now look like I have the Michael Jackson disease, and I am not happy one bit. So this cruise we are doing our 4 day voyage to Grand Turk and Bahamas. I am very excited because I have always ... read more

Today we were in the Bahamas and it was a brilliant day. A big group of us (me, Brooks, Brian, Marlize, Samantha, Kevin, Darnell, Jason & Ben) took the water taxi from Nasssau across to Paradise Island. We cruised past the yoga centre I’d looked at doing my teacher training at. Had I spent this year in Toronto, I likely would have saved to go there this past February. As we passed, the guide pointed it out and said how there they “don’t drink, smoke, eat meat or have any nookie-nookie”. Of course everyone laughs and shakes their heads as though they’re crazy and I just thought how much I’d love to be there. So crazy to be right there in front of where I could have been, but living in such a different environment instead. ... read more

We had a great sail from the Berry Islands to Nassau, traveling 9 knots in 15-20 knots of wind, very fun! Of course we were healed over, with the rail almost in the water, and some of our belonging shifted during the trip, but it was worth it. It was a thrill to sail the Rum Runner, she is such a fast and responsive boat. And we got into Nassau in great time. We decided to stay in the mega-resort Atlantis for a couple of days. And let me tell you, that place is amazing! It is like stepping of our boat and into Disneyland. Not only does it have a beautiful beach, a water park with multiple slides and pools, crazy shopping, and a casino, but it also has the world’s largest aquarium. We spent ... read more

Whew! I am exhausted. These last two days on the boat have been chock full of meetings and drills and introductions that I have barely had time to unpack. To recap on the last few days, I made it safely to the Bahamas by myself where I was immediately regretting my outfit choice of jeans and sweater when I was assaulted by the heat and humidity of the area. I shared a taxi ride to my hotel with another girl and her dad(I think they took pity on me since I was alone) for the low, low price of $60. The Atlantis resort was huge to say the least, but very gorgeous considering its price tag. The first half of the day was not exactly what I was hoping for. It was hard to decipher ... read more

First thing first, I have to say that TravelBlog kicks butt. Seriously, this site is awesome. It inspires me to write somthing to share for all travelgoers out there. With that said, the events occured last Septemeber 19-20. I was planning to write this experience of mine on a notebook, sound chessy? Not really, but somehow I got the time and a peace of mind from work and I have the office by myself. Please note that I don't have a digicam, though I have a disposable camera and will scan it some other day. Day 1 Sleeping under a blanket that covers from the bitter coldness of aircondition (Yes, somehow they haven't adjusted the temperature). First thing I heard is cluttering and chatting of my roomates in early morning, that forced me to wake up ... read more

When we woke up early on Friday morning to catch the shuttle to Valle Nevado ski resort outside of Santiago, we were a bit salty. It isn't that Santiago is the worst place in the world or anything. But when the rain sticks you in a place for longer than you need, and you know you missed a chance to be somewhere you might not ever get to again, it's hard to look on the bright side. We hadn't skiied in several years (one of the biggest drawbacks to living in the midwest), and were happy to be going to do something. But our enthusiasm dimmed for a while during the trek. First of all, the resort is only 60 km or so away, and the books and resorts use this number to mislead you. The ... read more

Jay and I left the Berry Islands and we sailed into Nassau yesterday. We had a great sail over with some good fishing just off the bank. We saw about a hundred birds going crazy in the distance, dive bombing the water which was churning with activity. Now this is what you look for when you want to catch a fish. So we changed our course and headed straight for the chaos with our line in the water. Sure enough we had a hit as soon as we got there, and let me tell you it was quite a hit indeed. As soon as the reel started spinning wildly we shut down the engine and Jay jumped to attention. When you looked down in the water all you saw was giant fish everywhere with their yellow ... read more
