Kona and a Very Big ShipKona and a Very Big ShipKona and a Very Big Ship

Kona is checking out the cruise ship that is here in Nassau- so big!
Jay and I left the Berry Islands and we sailed into Nassau yesterday. We had a great sail over with some good fishing just off the bank. We saw about a hundred birds going crazy in the distance, dive bombing the water which was churning with activity. Now this is what you look for when you want to catch a fish. So we changed our course and headed straight for the chaos with our line in the water. Sure enough we had a hit as soon as we got there, and let me tell you it was quite a hit indeed. As soon as the reel started spinning wildly we shut down the engine and Jay jumped to attention. When you looked down in the water all you saw was giant fish everywhere with their yellow and black fins breaking the surface amongst all the activity. We had a tuna, a yellow fin tuna, and we got really excited. It was running so fast and so hard that we almost ran out of fishing line on the reel before it went snap! Yes, the tuna got away. Our fishing line broke and we were left with nothing but this story in

under a minute. But by judging the size of the fish we saw, how fast it was running, and that it broke our 50 pound tess line, we had a big one (probably at least an 80 pound tuna- now that’s a lot of sushi). We probably never could have landed a fish that size anyways. But it sure was fun!

And now we are in Nassau, the big city. We really didn't want to spend any time here in Nassau during this trip, but found it was a necessity. We needed to get a couple of things for our trip-like good charts for some of the islands we want to go to next, new fuel filters for the Rum Runner, as well as some more fishing gear. The only place to get most of this stuff is here in Nassau and we were only 30 miles away. So here we are. Jay and I can't quite get used to all the noise and people and all the cars here, especially after spending such a long time at quiet anchorages and deserted islands. But the good news is that we have all the luxuries of civilization- like high speed

internet (which is why we were able to finally post all the blogs) and laundry facilities and a grocery store. Oh the things you miss when cruising. So we will enjoy our time here, rest and re-provision. And we hope to get back out to the Berry Islands, or maybe Eluthera, in a couple of days.

It does more than just mail, it is what supplies the out islands with fresh produce and building supplies and pretty much everything else that one needs.

Good to hear from you...it has been awhile. Where do you go during hurricane season? If you are in Aruba, go to to orchid garden. Jeane and I went there and it was beautiful. Just got back from 9 days in Hawaii, a ship trip around the islands, and enjoyed being in the car exploring on our own in Maui and Kauai. Hope you are well, happy, and safe.

What you are doing puts life into perspective for me. It's easy to get bogged down in the everyday..the traffic..bills...and forget that life is really a grand adventure and a wonderful exploration. You both are amazing. Take care, and I will be waiting for the next entry! (ps...if the previous comment was from the one and only Syliva Murray, Sly, you have to write me...ann.wheelan@gmail.com.) love to you both! Pet Kona for me!!! Ann
