We braved the cold again today so that Nate could see the Minneapolis Skyway. Unfortunately, most of the tunnel system was closed today. He did get to walk into a few at the IDS building but could not go into the adjoining buildings. I really enjoyed visiting Minnehaha Falls. I would love to find a campsite right on a waterfall because I could sit and enjoy for hours. The issue is that Nate and Daisy get bored in less than 2 minutes. We got back to the trailer much earlier than expected. We took the dogs for a walk and enjoyed our large, green, beautiful site.... read more

Today's drive was pretty smooth. We were once again lucky and found a canceled campsite at Lebanon Regional Park to reserve. At check in she said we should play the lottery since that was the first open site she has seen in a long time. To top it off we have full hookups and a beautiful big site. Wish we had more time to stay and enjoy. Weather is cold again, low is 37 tonight so we decided to go to the Mall of America to stay a little warm instead of the sculpture park outdoors. We were overwhelmed by the Mall of America due to the number of stores, the sheer size and scale of the facility, not to mention the seven acre amusement park. The amusement park was the main attraction especially for all ... read more

It is a rainy, cold day here today and tomorrow. So, we are pushing on to see what we can in the rain. Yesterday on the way in we saw the Ochsner Park & Zoo. After researching we found it was a free zoo. The site states that the "majority of our animals are either rehabilitated wildlife that are not able to be released or rescued from the exotic pet trade". The Zoo contains playful bears, a variety of owls, sleepy Mexican wolves, a lonely gorgeous artic fox, rambunctious river otters, hidden prairie dogs, a stinky skunk, a majestic eagle, and farm animals. The best part was watching the playful bears run around, climb up trees, flirting with disaster, onto limbs that did not appear like they should be able to hold a bear. After this ... read more

I woke up really sore today, but it was so worth it to climb down into Wye cave. Luckily, I was able to take it easy this morning. Tina worked much of the day today. We left the site a little late so Tina could use dual monitors. The drive from Maquoketa Caves State Park, IA to Wisconsin Dells, WI was about 3 hours. I enjoyed the morning and cooked some hot dogs for lunch. Then played around outside, did a video on the Segway, and kind of wish I had one more day to go play in the cave again. This was my favorite place we have stayed so far on the trip. Once we arrive to Fox Hill Campground, we took the pups for a walk and Tina and Daisy played some yard chess. ... read more

We spent most of the day exploring the many caves of Maquoketa Caves State Park. It is so nice to go at your own pace and enjoy these caves without a guide. They did a great job carving out paths through the wildflowers and through the wet flooring of the caves. Nate was extremely excited to see little chipmunks running around. He made us return to the dance hall in the large cave many times so he could hear himself sing. Today was nice because we took a break and ate lunch. Then we sat outside to enjoy the cool weather, Nate fell asleep, began to snore, and I took a selfie with him. In the afternoon, Nate and Daisy climb down into Wye cave. This is a narrow, muddy, and pitch black cave. Daisy describes ... read more

Today we got a late start on our trip to Maquoketa Caves State park. During clean up today Nate found a new friend in the dumpster, Mr. Racoon. Of course, Nate filmed him and had full discussion with the racoon. Once I finished working, we hit the road. We had about a 4-hour drive to Maquoketa Caves State Park. We got in and set up quickly in hopes to enjoy the wooded campground. As usual something had to throw our plans off... during dinner one of the doggies vomited on both the beds. I mean why stop at one bed when there's two to throw up on right? Since it was kind of time to do laundry anyways, we went to the 24-hour laundromat, so here we are at the laundry mat at 8:00 p.m., doing ... read more

We were taking our time this morning and I was working at the table when I noticed a deer come right into the campground. He hung out and ate until being spooked by a big class A came by and scared him off. After this we drove to Jester Park, IA to camp for the night. Nates perspective for the day: Today was just a short drive an hour between campsites for a one night stop over to see the High Trestle Bridge near Des Moines, Iowa. I was in disbelief on how easy the drive and set up went. We got in, we had lunch, we went to downtown to get gas, and we went to 2 thrift stores. I got lucky and found another travel toolbox. We came back to the trailer. Tina caught ... read more

Today we embarked from Missouri to Iowa. It was only 167 miles but took almost 4 hours due to most of the drive was all rural backroads. We were very happy to see the campground in Winterset, it is a city park in a quaint little town just south of Des Moines. We setup and left right away so that we could take the Madison County Covered Bridge tour. There was a total of 6 bridges all originally built in the late 1800s, only one of which could still be driven through. They were all beautifully restored and maintained. Nates favorite bridge was Holliwell built in 1880 due to the unique architecture. Many of the bridges were featured in a book “Bridges of Madison County”, that was later adapted into a movie with Clint Eastwood. The ... read more

Not much to write today. Our next scheduled stop is Winterset Iowa; however, the drive is a bit longer than we'd like with the travel trailer. We drove a short drive up through Missouri to the halfway mark, Thousand Hills State Park. This state park is 3,000 acres and feature a beautiful lake in the forest and Native American petroglyphs. We took many walks in attempt to see deer but did not see any during the daylight. After dark Nate took the Segway and was able to spot a few. We got up early the next morning again to find the deer but still nothing. It was a bit rainy and chilly out. I enjoyed watching Nate as he stood in the field with his arms out wide as many swallows flew all around him.... read more

Today was AWESOME!! We got up early and got to Lone Elk Park before it even opened. I'm so glad that we did because as soon as we went through the gate, we saw two deer being cute together. After that we came upon a gaggle of geese, babies included, all cute and furry. And to think it couldn't get better, we came upon a herd of male elk. After this we came into the bison habitat area where we were fortunate enough to see a calf bison with its mother. It was so nice because the wildlife was accustomed to being around vehicles, so they were not startled. This gave us plenty of time to watch them and take photos. Plus being the first visitors, we didn't have to worry about being rushed from other ... read more
