Today we were lucky enough to visit Arches National Park in Utah. It is amazing the work God has created in this park from soft red sandstone deposits. The park offers 23 miles of paved driving area that begins with switchback inclines up into the park. Most of the formations you are unable to see from the parking areas, some are a short walk while others take a little more time and a lot of drinking water. Bringing our doggy, Mandy, to this park would have held us back since they are only aloud in parking and paved areas. This is the largest concentration of natural sandstone arches with over 2,000 cataloged natural arches in the park. Nate and Daisy's favorite arch was Sand Dune Arch, the walk into the arch was through soft red/orange sand ... read more

Today's drive started off real easy on US-89 and then onto I-70 E, that was till we reached a part of I-70 with 6 miles of 6% grade and curvy roads, but again God watched over us and we made into Moab, UT. The steep grade was rough on Nate pulling the trailer, but the mountains were amazing the one mountain appeared as if it erupted from the earth and fell over like a whale breaching the water. You will have to view the photos but I do not think they will show what we saw in person. We are staying at OK RV Park ($22/night passport) and it is better than ok, the Wi-Fi is great, it has cable, shade (high tomorrow 103), level sites... cannot ask for much more. Tomorrow we will go visit ... read more

Today Mandy was fortunate enough to get to come along and now she is tired and has not moved from her spot since we came home. The drive alone on Highway 12 Scenic Byway to Bryce Canyon National Park was awesome! On the way we went through Red Canyon were we passed orange/red mountains that contained hoodoos. Then we drove through two arches that came out of the mountains, these were constructed by J.W. Humphry. Once in Bryce Canyon we drove the entire way to the end, 18 miles. The views at this point were nice, but the best views were near the entrance of the park. There were tons of crimson-colored hoodoos, which are odd-shaped pillars. At about the half way point there is a stop, Natural Bridge, with a natural bridge formed from beautiful ... read more

Nate had to do a lot of research for this drive, we were unable to pull the trailer or even just the truck straight to Zion since there's a tunnel that has large vehicle restrictions and even requires you to pay to have an escort to assist through the narrow passes. So we took 515 out of Vegas to interstate 15 back into Arizona and up to Utah. Interstate 15 in Arizona took us right through the middle of some large mountains thankfully low passes with small grades. Then 20 East to Panguitch, we camped at Paradise RV Resort ($16/night with no discount program needed) which has some beautiful views, Wi-Fi, and is close to Bryce Canyon. This is a nice up and coming park in the respect that they appear to have made many upgrades ... read more

The first night in Las Vegas we went to the calmer side, Circus Circus (does offer free parking), it reminded us of a larger scale Chuck E Cheese's with a tone of kids games that give out tickets, but it also had a small indoor amusement park and of course a casino. The circus act was nothing like it was when I came before, it is a small area with very limited seating that has a three minute show every half hour or so. Next to Circus Circus is all fenced off many buildings were either being tore down or being restored. For almost two blocks there was nothing but Trump tower in the near distance. From Circus Circus we made it into Fashion Show Mall which had everything of a normal mall just larger. On ... read more

Today we had a four hour drive from Williams, AZ to Las Vegas, NV. Our Garmin RV GPS took us an unexpected route from highway 40 to 68 to163 to 95. This route took us right past Lake Mead which looked very beautiful and than through a lot of driving on 6% grade roads which was not the most fun with the travel trailer, but not too bad. I suppose it was a good practice for the mountain driving to come. We decided to stay at Duck Creek RV Resort ($20/night with passport) until after the Holiday, checking out on July 5th. The resort is much like a large parking lot, but does offer Wi-Fi, pool, hot tub, DVD rental and is close to everything but still in a safe area. On the 4th they had ... read more

We have to say that Montezuma Castle National Monument was a disappointment we drove over an hour for this visit and there is only one Puebloan cliff dwellings to view at this location unlike Bandelier National Monument that has more to see and where you are able to enter the dwellings. Luckily on the way back north we took the scenic road 179 to 89A which drove us past many beautiful red to orange-colored sandstone mountains. It was a good thing we did not have the trailer for this drive since there were many switchback areas. This road reminded us of the backdrop of many Western movies. I think the nicest stop was at the Chapel of the Holy Cross which was built in 1956. I am unsure if the view looking up at the church ... read more

We spent the entire day at Grand Canyon South Rim. The first view was overwhelming; the size was beyond what I remembered as a kid. We took the tram to every stop on the orange which covered a couple stops along the rim and then onto the blue and red. Blue is an interior route which went to the train station (yes you can ride a train in, not a cheap option), the campgrounds, retail area that had various restaurants and shops; we also used this route to connect to red. Red by far had the best views it had 9 stops as you ascended up a long incline to finally stop at an elevation of about 7,000 feet at Hermits Rest this was once a small inn. The inn was built in 1914 and designed ... read more

Today we took I-40 from Sun Valley, AZ to Williams, AZ. Williams is a nice central location to Grand Canyon South Rim, Wupatki National Monument, Sedona, Montezuma Castle National Monument and Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument. This was a nice easy drive, we decided to stay at Canyon Motel & RV Park (they offer passport rates of $20/night, but we are close to the Holiday so had to pay Good Sam's rate of $41/night). The park is nice, quiet, has good Wi-Fi, an indoor pool that is freezing, and is in a great location. Best of all the city has what they call a dark ordinance where no bright lights are to be left on after 10 PM this allows everyone to enjoy the abundance of stars. The park also has cabins you can rent and ... read more

North America June 26th 2016

This morning we headed to Sun Valley, AZ on the way we stopped at the first rest stop into Arizona in a town called Lupton to see the Painted Cliffs. It was very beautiful, but did not seem to interest the rest of the family. Once in Sun Valley we set up our campsite at Sun Valley RV ($19/night with Passport America) and headed straight back out to the Petrified Forest/Painted Desert National Park. As soon as we left the trailer the winds became severe, semi trucks were pulled over, it looked like something from a movie watching the winds pick up and the desert dust come across the highway. If we would have slowed down just 20 or 30 minutes with the trailer in tow this morning we probably would have had some major problems, ... read more
