Geo: 9.38945, -84.1347Seen recently on the jungle coast of Manuel Antonio National Park, Costa Rica....... Ray Kester ''performing LIVE at EL WAGON !!(Did I imagine it, or was he glancing down furtively for snakes and scorpions between verses ? ) /snark We had met Ray at Luna Llena in Montezuma, enjoying hearing him play at the pizza place there. When last seen he said he was going back to Manuel Antonio to play some more. When we were ready to go to MA we messaged him on FB and he replied that he was performing at El Wagon in the night we were to arrive after our visit with Costa Rica Craig. Craig had driven us down and dropped us off at National Park Backpackers Hostel and then gone back to Quepos to see his girlfriend. ... read more

Central America Caribbean » Costa Rica February 6th 2013

Geo: 9.38945, -84.1347After a nice lunch at Craig's we got everything loaded up and headed for Manuel Antonio. We rode with Craig through Quepos on the way and then were on the winding hills up and down that are such a trademark to me of Manuel Antonio.Found the landmark for the turn (Marlin Restaurante ) off the main road, took another left first street to the right to get to National Park Backpackers and turned in when we saw their sign. The rooms are small but are just fine since we did not plan to spend much time there except for napping and sleeping. Took a tour of the rest of the area, saw the shower and ablutions block and a brief glance at the kitchen. They did have two refrigerators that did not look very ... read more

The road also goes on up to the Central Valley and San Jose. Two buses ... read more

Geo: 9.81586, -84.9322Sailing from Paquera to rendezvous w 'Costa Rica Craig'Our time in Montezuma has come to an end and we must continue our adventures in other parts of Costa Rica. We have a friend, CostaRicaCraig that lives outside of Parrita and we are going to visit him at his place for a night before we move on to Manual Antonio. Since we do not travel by car, this is an adventure in itself. We had gone and checked the bus schedule to travel from Montezuma to Puntarenas where we would catch another bus to Parrita. To get to Puntarenas, you catch the directo to San Jose and get off in Puntarenas. There is a bus at 6:20a.m. and one at 2:30p.m. The bus arrives in Montezuma, and you travel to Cobano. In times past, we have ... read more

Central America Caribbean » Costa Rica February 4th 2013

Geo: 9.66303, -85.0671 In our early days of travel, during the first 10 years or so that we were married, we would leave behind the busy life in TX and escape to the Mexican Carribean. After a few days in the steamy Yucatan we would settle in to a much slower Rhythm what we called the "yucatan shuffle". In Montezuma, it seemed only natural to do the same. It is hot and humid here during the day and so fast walking really brings on the sweat.Things seem to slow down and you take time to enjoy the scenery, visit with people and generally enjoy being there in Montezuma. We always seem to meet nice people, enjoy great conversations, and good food to say nothing of the beautiful sunrises each morning to start your day.Below is a ... read more

Geo: 9.66303, -85.0671Jamie's RelicPart of the fun of staying at Luna Llena is the people you meet while you are there. This was our third time to stay at Luna Llena, and the travelers were 'muy amable.'Cooking meals in the shared kitchen, visiting while doing so and seeing what delicious meals someone else is coming up with. On this particular trip Danielle and Matt, Darshon and Alex, Jamie and Joel, Babs and others were among the may who fixed attractive meals! Some here this time were either vegetarian or vegan so it was interesting to see what different things they fixed. Lots of great smells, garlic, onions, curries and so on.We prepared some good meals while we were here but seems the one that got the most rave reviews were the mango and spinach quesadillas! Central America Caribbean » Costa Rica February 2nd 2013

Geo: 9.66303, -85.0671It is always fun to try out different places to eat or sit and have a drink when we are in Montezuma. The last time we were here we had an excellent dinner at Cocolores and so we decided to see if the food was still as good as before. It was and the view was beautiful. You are very close to the ocean and so you can see the waves crashing on the rocks on the shore. It was a very enjoyable dinner and a real splurge. Our regular favorite is the Montezuma restaurant which is at the end of the street in Montezuma. There is usually a nice breeze, view of the ocean and a great place to watch people. The food is good as well and reasonably priced. On this trip we ... read more

Geo: 9.66303, -85.0671When we first decided to come to Montezuma and stay at Luna Llena, Robert had read about the varied and diverse amount of wildlife to be seen here. We were not disappointed that time and we have not been this time either.when we first arrived this time, we were told there had been a tarantula in the bathroom closest to our room. We have yet to have seen it but it and another one have been seen by several of the guests here.Because Milly, the owner, does a great job of trying to be as environmentally sensitive as possible, she has a container to place all of the organic garbage in and they throw it over the fence to mulch and feed the wild animals that hang around here. Geo: 9.66303, -85.0671On this trip to Montezuma, we discovered a new place to get our exercise and enjoy the process. Instead of walking on the beach in the sun, hiking to the waterfall with many other people, we found a road that we can walk on, watch the birds and enjoy a respite at a stream coming down the hillside. We discovered this road when we turned left leaving Luna Llena instead of right down into town. There was a road that did not have any signs saying it was private so we headed up the hill. There are quite a few large trees along the road but you can also see signs of possible development, ie, telephone poles placed in the ground. We always go out in the early morning and as you get to the turnoff ... read more

Geo: 9.66303, -85.0671It doesn't take long to get into the rhythm of Montezuma. Your pace slows both because of the heat and just taking time to look around at the sights and sounds. But you have to be careful not to trip and fall because that hurts!Things are pretty much as they were two years ago when we were here. There seem to be more people staying for 3 weeks or longer here at Luna Llena. There is a couple here we met when we were here two years ago! But, there are also the newcomers every day that stay for a day or two and then move on.One night we were sitting by the fence enjoying the breeze when a guy joined us. The usual where are you from? ensued and he was from Oklahoma ... read more
