Our Month In Madagascar

Did you see the movie Madagascar? Apparently quite a few travelers did, and decided to visit this strange and ancient island country. We learned that before that few english speakers visited, locals mostly spoke French because of prior colonization, and that after the first wave those in the hospitality and guiding industry began to learn English to accomodate the new influx.

And of course its not exactly like the movie. The fact that so many came because of the cartoon movie frustrates some of the young people we met. We enjoyed getting to know a new country ( Number 44 for u) and we did meet friendly people, sample the local cuisine, learn some Malagasy language, and have rewarding experiences getting to observe tree ferns, lemurs, rainforest chameleons, gekkos, and many other interesting animal, reptiles, insects and plants.

Instead of traveling the whole Texas sized country, we chose to focus on the Andasibe Mantadia National Park area in the cool rainforest hills several hours from the capital of Ananatarivo, Madagascar.
