Geo: 8.53622, -83.3051some day pictures may be postedTime to move on from Uvita down the coast to Puerto Jimenez! Got our final packing done and had breakfast at El Tucan and said our goodbyes to Betta and Tra. We had arranged for Sierpe Shuttle to pick us up at 8:30 and take us to Palmar Norte in time to catch the bus to Puerto Jimenez. The shuttle was right on time and off we went. Got to Palmar Norte at 9:15 and had to wait for about 10 minutes before the bus arrived. There were several buses that stop at this stop so make sure to read the sign on the front of the bus. The cost of the bus was 3650 colones each. The bus was pretty full but got seats and as we headed ... read more

Geo: 9.15446, -83.7423some day pictures may be posted hereLast day in Uvita and decided to check out the private forest of Los Laureles. The owner told us we were welcome to go into the forest but we first talked to her about her place. Her rooms are a little more upscale than El Tucan but did not have the same wonderful vibe. Her brother also runs a tour business for bikes and kayaks. Did sound interesting if we come back this way and want to do this kind of activity.Walked through the private forest and it was a nice walk but the birds were not moving about much at all. Still enjoyed it and may try it again if we return. Had a smoothie at her place and she showed us pictures of the various items ... read more

Geo: 9.15232, -83.7565After a very restful evening felt more like taking the hike all the way up to the Mirador. Last year we got the the Mirador during low tide and were able to see the complete Whale's Tail! This year the tide is not running in our favor but because we are starting out early, a great deal of it should be showing. As we were walking down the road, heard a woodpecker but were never able to find it in the trees as well as the toucans calling in the distance. This year seems we are not going to see as many toucans as we have in years past.Once we got to the bamboo forest, the road was pretty much in the shade and was cool and pleasant to walk as you were steadily climbing ... read more

Geo: 9.15446, -83.7423 f''d dLast year when we were in Uvita, it was during the Easter season and the waterfall was very crowded and so we skipped it and just walked the road above it enjoying the many birds we saw. This year we decided to hike to the waterfall and check it out.Got a late start, 8:30 am and it was hot and humid walking on the road. The sun comes up fast and then is quite brutal so early morning hikes are the best! We got the the waterfall and took a break and ordered a mixed fruit smoothie that was so very delicious. Sat near the edge of the eating area and cooled down. The cost to enter the waterfall is 1000 colones per person. Paid our fee and set off down the path ... read more

Geo: 9.15446, -83.7423Enjoyed the cool of the air conditioned room and slept in and had coffee and relaxed until finally getting up and fixing ourselves some nice mango, spinach, cheese quesadillas! Sat at the outside table and visited with a girl from Venezuela and another girl from the Netherlands. Finally decided to do something useful and worked on uploading pictures and stories since we are continually behind it seems. There is just too much going on every day it seems! The G-String Cowboys were playing again this evening at the Restaurante Marino Ballena and we were going to enjoy dinner and their music. Walked over to the Restaurante which was across the highway from The Dome. On the way, we noticed there is a new truckstop/restaurant where the long distance buses stop. Will have to do more ... read more

Geo: 9.15446, -83.7423arrive in Uvita and go to Dome to see G String Cowboys along with Los Geckos and Stan from ClevelandUp early to do the final packing in the cool of the morning and get the bags up the stairs for our 7:30 am shuttle pickup to Uvita. We were picked up at 7:35 and were the 2nd couple picked up and glad we were second because by the time we left Quepos/Manual Antonio the shuttle was full including the three jump seats in the back and one girl riding middle seat in the front! There were no stops between Quepos and Uvita and so we made good time. We were the first to be let out and were greeted by Betta and Tra and got our bags brought to the commons area. The room was ... read more

Geo: 9.38945, -84.1347Had to go back into town to pick up one of Robert's shirts that the laundry man felt needed to be soaked in bleach! It is his kayaking shirt and do not think it will ever come totally clean!Since we were in town decided to walk over to one of the bridges that cross the quebrada and see what we could see. We were rewarded by some of the largest iguanas we have seen on this trip and possibly ever! They were at least five to six feet long and such interesting colors. Sat and watched them for awhile, and then headed back to the room. Made a salad out of everything that would not travel well for the shuttle ride tomorrow to Uvita. While we were eating our salad, visited with Randy who ... read more

Geo: 9.45, -84.15Closing in on our last days in Manuel Antonio and headed into Quepos to turn in laundry and get haircut. That done decided to hike to Nahomi Park and check things out. It was still early morning and so we had shade as we walked along. We were walking along the Malecon and you could see the tide moving out in the river running right along the seawall. Right before Marina Pez Vela, the river makes a sharp turn and we were rewarded with all manner of shore birds and others. There were two immature caracara trying to either catch something or intimidate one of the other birds on the shore to give up their catch. Neither seemed to be working! Blue heron, green heron, great egret and snowy egret all busy down by ... read more
