Although I planned an early night last night, due to the lack of sleep the previous one, that did not happen.... ...Went to the bar last night, had a great time, saw some of the people that we had left behind a few days ago. It was nice to see them all, and they told us all about their glacier walk, and how amazing it is. Shame I can't go, stupid knees! This morning I got up at 7:30, and walked down to the supermarket with Mel, we got lots of snacks for her day on the glacier, and I also bought a magazine to keep me entertained for a while. I waited with her, Andrew and Jake until they had to go and get boots on and get dressed for the day... Then I came ... read more

Since we left the North Island on Monday, we have been pretty busy doing plenty of things... Monday we spent most of our day on the ferry getting across to the South Island, and then caught a new Kiwi Bus to take us from Picton (where the ferry docks) to Nelson (the town we were staying in). When we got to Nelson, we (Mel, me, Floris, Andrew and another girl) wandered around town and finally found a supermarket to buy our dinner from.... We got back to the hostel in time for the free beer tasting at 5:30, and that was good, would have been better if they were pint glasses not shot glasses! But, it was free, so we can't complain... Tuesday we set off to Wesport, and there was a walk that we did ... read more

The last couple of days have been spent chilling out really. Thursday was spent wandering around Taupo, going to a handmade chocolate shop, and sitting by the lake feeding the ducks. It was a really nice day, and we also managed to make our journals look pretty thanks to an old magazine, some glue and scissors! We left Taupo Friday morning, and headed South... On the way to our next stop of River Valley, we stopped at 'Mount Doom'. We did a 1.5 hour walk around the area at the base of the volcano, and walked to a waterfall, which was really amazing. The walk was really nice, and although it started out a bit chilly, the sun came out and by the time we finished the walk, it was really sunny and pretty warm... When ... read more

Fell from a plane at 200km/ph today.... Was AMAZING! We got picked up from the hostel at 10:45am, and taken to the airport. We got into our outfits, and had hats, goggles, oxygen masks, all that sort of thing, and met our skydiving partners.... Mel's was called Phil and mine was called Andrew. We were driven to the plane, and met our camerapeople... I had a woman called Jenny and Mel has no idea what hers was called, but he had cool dreadlocks... We were in a TINY plane, only 9 people. Me, Mel, Justin (our roommate), our 3 instructors, 3 camerapeople, and that was it... oh and a pilot as well. We had to put our oxygen masks on when we got up to a certain height, as the air was too thin to breathe... ... read more

Left Auckland on Friday 28th March, had a lady driver! Yay, go ladies driving buses, also she had the best name... LAUREN! YAY, go Laurens! Mel says 'I was stuck with two of them driving me mad :P' She loves me really. We went up to the top of a big hill, and looked out over the whole of Auckland, and it was pretty cool. There were cows grazing in the bowl of a volcanic crater at the top of the hill... We then went to a place called Cathedral Cove, we had to walk 45 minutes each way to get there, up and down hills and steps... GRR steps! It was pretty down there, and we took some pictures and then walked back through a little foresty bit and played on a tree. We got ... read more

We have been pretty busy over the last couple of days... Saturday was spent in Noosa, on a boat that we rented for the whole day. We set off in the morning at about 6:30, and arrived in Noosa at about 9am after having breakfast at a service station on the way. We packed all of our stuff into the boat, and then headed up the river to a fishing spot near some reeds. As soon as I cast my line for the time, I had a bite, and managed to land a potato cod which was really ugly, but quite a good size for the fish in that river. We spent about 2 hours fishing, and caught about 5 fish. Some perch, and another type of tropical fish. Mel caught two fish, which was great ... read more

We are back in Brisbane now... We arrived today at about 3pm from Sydney, after experiencing Qantas' idea of making check-in quicker, which is called 'Quickcheck' although it does not live up to the name, as it makes everthing about 3 times as long as just checking in normally. We were also delayed for about 45 minutes, so left at about 2:20 rather than 1:35 (Sydney time). The flight was quite good. It was really quick, and we got a snack, which wasn't great, but it was okay... We landed in Brisbane a bit later than scheduled. We met Sophie and Dad at the gate, and we went to collect our bags. We went up to Mt Cootha, and took some photos of the city, and then headed back to the unit to unpack, and have ... read more

We arrived into Ayers Rock this morning, and when we first saw it, Mel's intellectual comment about one of the amazing natural wonders of the world was "It's just a big bloody rock", glad to know I am travelling with someone who appreciates natural beauty... HAHA We got to the resort, and were immediately attacked by about a million flies... It was really hot. We did a bit of shopping, and got some lunch from the supermarket. Mel says "Family and Andrew, I have bought you some presents, any ideas on what to get Nanna?" We were picked up by our tour company, and taken to the office. We paid for our entry fee and then went to our campsite. We filled our water bottles, and then headed out in the busto Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) ... read more

We arrived in Cairns yesterday evening, after an 8 and a half hour drive from Magnetic Island... Magnetic Island was a bit of a dissappointment really. It was not a very nice atmosphere in the hostel, and there was not much to do there, unless you enjoy getting totally drunk every night, and then spending your days by the pool in a hungover state. We tried kayaking, but it was a bit too much hard work, due to the huge waves that kept battering us. So that adventure only lasted about 10 minutes! The rest of the time, we spent by the pool, in the pool and playing cards. We were quite happy when we left, and on the way up to Cairns we stopped off at a crocodile farm, which was really good. We got ... read more

Been a while since my last entry, but haven't had access to internet since we left Brisbane on Monday. We have been travelling up the coast now for a week, and it is going well, (well most of it). Started off in Noosa, which is a surf town, and they had their surf festival on while we were there. Tried to surf at a surf school, but fell off, and to cut a long story short, ended up in the local hospital on a spinal board, but all is well now, getting better, no major damage... just muscles and nerves... We went to Rainbow Beach, which was disappointing as it rained all the time we were there! The beach wasn't that warm either.... LOL. Oh well... We went to a place called Kroombit on Sunday, and ... read more
