We arrived into Ayers Rock this morning, and when we first saw it, Mel's intellectual comment about one of the amazing natural wonders of the world was "It's just a big bloody rock", glad to know I am travelling with someone who appreciates natural beauty... HAHA

We got to the resort, and were immediately attacked by about a million flies... It was really hot. We did a bit of shopping, and got some lunch from the supermarket. Mel says "Family and Andrew, I have bought you some presents, any ideas on what to get Nanna?"

We were picked up by our tour company, and taken to the office. We paid for our entry fee and then went to our campsite. We filled our water bottles, and then headed out in the busto Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) and went for a shortish walk. It was awful! The guide is over 6 feet tall, and his strides are about the length of 5 of ours! (Like Andrew :P) So, we were basically jogging to keep up with him. (Just to let you know, it was 39degC (44degC air temperature apparently with hardly any wind). Mel said she would like to go skiing.

After that, we went to Ayers Rock, and had a litttle walk around, and looked at some waiting caves and some aboriginal cave paintings... Then we went to the sunset viewing area, and had a glass of champagne and some cheese and crackers.

After dinner and showers, we rolled out our swags, and slept under the stars with all the spiders and snakes and dingoes and all other deadly australian creatures (just to point out, it was all girls that were brave enough to sleep out, all the guys were in the tents). It was awesome, but we actually froze, as we didn't have sleeping bags, and the desert gets freezing....!
