Drawer Olympics
Mel in a drawer under a bed. The last couple of days have been spent chilling out really. Thursday was spent wandering around Taupo, going to a handmade chocolate shop, and sitting by the lake feeding the ducks. It was a really nice day, and we also managed to make our journals look pretty thanks to an old magazine, some glue and scissors!
We left Taupo Friday morning, and headed South... On the way to our next stop of River Valley, we stopped at 'Mount Doom'. We did a 1.5 hour walk around the area at the base of the volcano, and walked to a waterfall, which was really amazing. The walk was really nice, and although it started out a bit chilly, the sun came out and by the time we finished the walk, it was really sunny and pretty warm...
When we got to River Valley, we had to walk down a really steep hill to get to the lodge, and then we found our room. The room was quite big, and had 16 people in it, and it was just a case of grabbing a matress, and putting it somewhere on one of the wooden bases that were there. There were 8 people
Waterfall
A waterfall near Mount Doom. on the bottom, and 8 people on the top. Almost like a huge bunk bed!
Some crazy people then decided that they would go for a dip in the river, which was FREEZING! They even went in twice! Mel and I were sensible, and just sat on the grass watching and laughing! Later that night, we had a roast dinner, which was BRILLIANT! So tasty! We had roast Lamb, potatoes, peas, broccoli, sweet potato, yorkshire puddings and gravy. YUM!
During the night, we did not have any duvets or blankets, as they cost extra and we are too skint to pay $3 for a duvet! So, we ended up sleeping in our sleeping bag liners, and having our towels over us as blankets. It was not too unbearable, although a little chilly.
Yesterday we left River Valley at around 13:30, and during our journey down to Wellington, we watched two movies, which were both really good, and stopped at Subway to get some lunch. We have decided that we LOVE Subway, as we can have lots of choice, it is cheap, and really tasty! GO SUBWAY!
We arrived in Wellington at around 6:10 lastnight, and it
Mount Doom
The real Mount Doom! took 1hr 10 minutes to even get to the desk so that we could check-in, as there was a queue of around 40 people, and one lady serving on the desk. Anyway, once we checked in, we got some dinner, which again was a bit of a nightmare! The hobs were really dodgy. None of the knobs tell you which one they control, and they do not say which way to turn to make them hotter and colder. So after eating slightly chewy pasta with crunchy carrots and broccoli, we decided that we had had enough, and we went to our room and played cards.
This morning we have gained an extra hour due to the clocks going back, so we are well rested, and about to get some breakfast and then try and go to the Museum which is just down the road, and according to our bus driver, something that is worth doing...
So, goodbye from the Capital city of New Zealand....
We will be seeing you in 22 days! Looking forward to it.
